Description:

This swap is for serious pen pallers who love writing in a journal. The idea behind this swap is to establish a new friendship with your assigned partner and keep writing to her via a journal. You write your letter in the journal each time and decorate it with stickers, drawings, etc. Personalize it as you would a letter. When she answers back, she also writes in the journal. I've done this for years and over time, you'd be surprised at how many journals you fill and how nice it is to have the previous entry right in front of you. You remember things about the person and it strengthens your budding friendship. Each person will be assigned one partner and you will start your journal and send it to her. You will rate your partner on the neatness, content and originality. For the more creative...you can add any kind of craft embelishments to the journal. You can enclose pictures - whatever! Because of the commitment of this swap, no one with any ratings of 3 or lower will be allowed. I want to make sure everyone enjoys this and meets a new friend along the way!

AHhh but who gets the journal at the end? :)

Oh I used to do this in junior high with my best friend, instead of passing notes we used a whole notebook and filled it with our silly conversations!

ideally, everyone would get to keep at least one journal because you will start one to send to your swap partner, and then someone else will start one to send to YOU for their swap...

Love this idea!! Thanks for hosting it!

I am wondering - does this mean writing in the journal from Jan 19 to Feb 3rd and then sending it...? It doesn't seem to make sense to write just one entry and then send it...

The journal is to be treated as a letter. The one who starts it writes an introductory letter, and sends it to their partner. She in turn writes her introductory letter and sends the journal back. There are no deadlines on how long it takes to write each other. However, I'd recommend a fairly quick turnaround just as you would answer a letter. The Feb. 3rd deadline is kind of like a guide as to when the first person sends the journal out for the first time. The swap officially starts on January 19th when partners are assigned and the first person would have until at least Feb. 3rd to do their first letter inside the journal. Once your partner receives it, she would post a rating for you.

Yes, hopefully everyone would get to keep at least one journal. The idea behind this swap is to get everyone started on a journal pal. However long you choose to write to each other is up to you and your partner. I'm hoping lots of long lasting friendships will be formed! As you fill up one journal, you start another. Perhaps the first journal can be kept by the one who originally started it and then when the next one if done, her partner can keep it.

What type of journal is usually used? Composition notebooks?

This is so awesome!

As for who gets to keep the journal...if you start it, you get to keep it. Then alternate...let the other person start the next one. I think that sounds fair.

Can't wait to start mine.

Yes, you can use a composition notebook - then decorate the pages inside with stickers, whatever you choose is fine! Make it original, not expensive! You can also buy a journal book and you can find them almost anywhere anymore for a dollar or the more decorative kind for 3 or 4 dollars.
