Description:

I've been so pleased with what I'm being sent from the first swap! So many caring, creative people out there!

In fact, I've gotten so many cards, that I'll also be delivering some to Virginia Piper Center in Scottsdale, AZ! They care for men, women, and children of all ages, so you can expand your style and messages for those other groups too. Please address your card to "Male (or female or child) Cancer Patient" as is appropriate. If it doesn't matter, just put "Cancer Patient."

Wanna help “jump” the spirits of children stricken by cancer? You can!

April 10th is “Cards for Cancer” day. Sponsors "Spirit Jump" and "Bloggers Unite" hope to deliver over 100,000 cards to cancer centers around the world.

Spirit Jump (http://spiritjump.org/) is a great non-profit (501c3) organization that has been lifting the spirits of cancer for over a year. The idea is to make (or just buy and sign) cards that will be delivered to cancer centers on April 10th.

I'd like to host a swap-bot version. We'll make cards which I’ll deliver to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, (http://www.phoenixchildrens.com/medical-specialties/center-for-cancer-blood-disorders/), the largest facility for children with cancer in Arizona, and one of the ten largest children’s hospitals in the United States.

You will make one (or more) card, scan (or photograph) it, and email your partner the image along with a brief comment about why this event is important to you. Send the card to ME, and I’ll deliver all of our cards on April 10th to the children at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. I'll email you with my address after partners are assigned.

Since I'll be taking the cards to different hospitals, it would help me a LOT if you could address the envelope to "Child Cancer Patient", "Male Cancer Patient", or Female Cancer Patient," as appropriate. Just put "Cancer Patient" if it won't matter who gets it.

If you’d like to host a card-making party, that’s great! I’ll have a SPECIAL gift for the swapper who sends in the most cards.

Thanks for helping! Pass it on…

Please be sure to include a short note of encouragement and sign your name and location! See below in comments for requests from hospitals and tips.

I'm opening this up to Newbies, but please have a complete profile! You don't need to know your partner first, so you can start making cards right away!

Important Tips and requests from the sponsor:

1- Try to stay away from “Get Well”. Unfortunately some of the recipients of your cards will not get well and this message, while a positive one, can be hard for some. Because we do not know specifically who will receive your cards it's a good idea to stay away from any type of “Get Well” messages.

2- “Thinking of You” “Wishing You Well” “You Are In Our Thoughts” “Encouraging You Through Your Battle’ etc…are all great messages to include in your cards.

3- Uplifting quotes are always great

4- Drawings without any message at all work too.

5-Try to stay gender and age neutral as you do not know who will be receiving your cards. However, if you know you are delivering to a childrens center, woman’s center etc….you can be more specific.

6- We ask that you include spiritjump.org somewhere in your card so that people who want to receive more cards know about our services.

7- Hospitals have asked that people not include religious messages in their cards.

8- Hospitals have asked not to store cards in a home where someone smokes cigarettes and that they are kept in a smoke free environment.

This is a very inspirational swap and I am glad to be part of it! I am doing this swap in honor of the people in my life that were taken by cancer. Thank you Carol for hosting this swap!

I'm a team captain in Michigan. With a little help from a few friends, I will be delivering 150 cards to my local cancer center ... and I also sent 40 cards to a friend in Iowa for her cancer center. Her husband is fighting a losing fight with brain cancer, and she has been unable to complete her own cards. I won't be taking part in this swap, but I encourage anyone else who can, to please do so.

I wish I knew about this last weekend when I was at a scrapbooking crop, I could have gotten everyone there to make a card. Will you be doing another one?

Trish 03/31/2010 #

are you delivering them to the hospital on april 10th?

carol 04/ 2/2010 #

@Trish I may drop them off on 4/9 as I have an event I'm coordinating on the 10th, but the hospital will give them out on 4/10. Thanks for participating!

@ Robin50, I think this will be an annual event, so not until next year, but if you want to lift the spirits of a cancer patient, join spiritjump.org. They do this year-round!
