Description:

Some of you have probably heard of the Flat Stanley project where school children send little paper characters around the world. Recipients take pictures of the characters in various locations and then send the character and picture back to the child. So I thought this might be fun to do with adults. And since I love animals of all kinds I thought it would fun to do your doll as a animal or monster It doesn't matter what kind as long as you will like to see him or her in pictures.

All you have to do is make a animal paper doll. Doesn't have to be a work of art. Can be made from a regular sheet of paper, but you can make larger if you so desire. Just make sure that it's not so small that it would be hard to get a good picture of. Then you'll send it to your partner.

Partners, you'll take at least 5 pictures of the Flat Stanley somewhere in the area you live. Be creative - go to a zoo, find a statue, take it to a concert, etc. Once you get the picture developed or printed off your computer, send it and the Flat Stanley back to the person who sent it to you along with one souvenir.

This will be an international swap so that Stanley can visit exotic locations.

Okay, now for the serious stuff. I will remove people who have multiple 1's and or 3's. In order for this swap to work, you need to be responsible since it involves the step of sending Stanley back within a month of receiving him with his new pictures and a souvenir!

Package to include flat Stanley, at least 5 pictures) and a souvenir from your travels.

This sounds really fun!

I will be sending you a picture of Josie (my black lab mix). Then you can take pictures of her wherever you are, and I will add them to her scrapbook (You know you are obsessed with scrapbooking when you have one just for your dog). It would be fun to add a travel page to Josie's scrapbook.

I am so glad for this swap. I've always wanted a flat Stanley to come visit me, and now it my chance.

Im' having a hard time understanding the time lines for this swap. May 31 - June 9 is only a week and 2 days. If I have Flat Animal ready to send on May 31/June 1, my partner may not receive it in time to take and develop (or print) pictures and get it back in the mail by June 9 --- especially if they are in a different country. You said to return within a month of receipt --- ????? I don't have that month on my calendar. Please clarify. Hopefully, I'm not over-thinking this.

Hi Grandmaroro

The May 31-June 9th is the time to create your flat animal and to get it in the mail then your partner has a month to take photos and send your flat critter back to you. So you will have Mid June to Mid July to take photos and mail it and the pictures back. Hope that helps clear things up. Unfortunately the first time I went to post this the gremlins in cyberspace ate it :)

HOW fun this will be great!!

I did this with a bunny --named her Flat Charlotte-- sent to my grandma in rural Nevada when my mom & sis visted her one year. She just thought that was the cutest thing!!!

Is it okay to send a picture of your dog or cat (like the Where's Crusher swap) or does it have to be a handdrawn / handmade "doll"? Just want to be sure - thanks!!

dolphingirl 05/25/2010 #

I think a photo would be fine if you want to do one instead of a drawing, what ever makes you happy! Could even be a monster type of critter if you didn't want to do a regular animal!

fun! I can't wait I have a vintage elephant from a post card. He is so cute!

This sounds awesome! But what is a sun souvenir?

grandmaroro 05/27/2010 #

I've done two flat Stanleys with two of my grandchildren. I loved it. Thanks, dolphingirl, the time line is much clearer now. I really shouldn't be on the computer at night when I am tired. lol

How does the rating for this work? Do I rate the person who sends me the anidoll? As long as I get a doll I rate?

wackywallflower 06/ 5/2010 #

I'm assuming you have to rate the person who sends you a flat stanley, then in the response section they can comment on your pictures/surprise that you send back to them? or leave a comment on their profile? I think I get it, haha, but I'm not sure if I explained it right.

I'm having a problem on my work pc trying to send my partner a msg (or anyone for that matter). I see she lives in Canada & it says she sent it, but as of yesterday's mail, I still haven't received her flat animal. (i think her name is kaylynn?) can someone please send her a message about this? My partner has been sending me postcards w/ my flat animal -- OMG it is just tooo cute!
