Description:

It's around the corner, the displays are in the stores and soon the ghoulies and ghosties will ring your door bell for sweet treats and silly tricks! This is a 3 ATC swap with one partner. Standard atc rules apply, any medium...it's size that matters. 2.5 x 3.5". Depict Halloween anyway you'd like, scary, silly, sweet....if you don't "do" Halloween and feel it is an evil, Satanic ritual, please don't participate. This is for ATC'ers who get a kick out of the annual autumn event! if you can't get it together to send your cards by the deadline (or let your partner know you'll be late), don't join. No one likes to be left out or disappointed. For those new to ATC's...they are: ARTIST TRADING CARDS, little works of original art you trade with others...the size is the big deal here, 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches...the size of a standard playing card or baseball card (the idea of trading art in this way came from the baseball card trading thing). There are tons of websites with wonderful details about ATC's...just type in Artist Trading Cards and you'll see tons of examples. Newbies are welcome, but please make sure you do some research about ATC's before you embark on this swap, and make sure you send your stuff! If you're gonna be late, because life happened, just email your swap partner to let them know.

Wow, people are signing up! I'm so happy, as this and the Autumn atc swaps are the first ones I've hosted. Any questions shoot me an email....you know you've done a lot of swaps when you start recognizing the names on the list. Thanks everyone, looking forward to great ATC's to celebrate the season!

Umm, can I ask a really dumb question - what is an ATC? I like Halloween and might enjoy participating in the swap BUT, i'm guessing it would go better if I know what all I was swapping! :)

ATC's are artist trading cards. This is a unique artform started a few years ago in Europe as a way for artists to exchange small examples of their work with one another. Two basic rules apply. The big one is the size. The cards must never be anything but two and half by three and half inches. Rule number two which is sometimes broken, the cards are traded not sold. (Some people sell their cards on auction sites usually under the name of ACEO (Art Card Edition Original). Purists feel the ATC's must always be traded in face-to-face trading sessions, but online is huge (and the only way I'd ever get to build a collection). Any medium can be used, paper, plastic, wood, fabric, clay, metal...you can draw, paint, collage, etch, text, calligraphy, you name it you can do it as long as it's the right size. If you love embellishing things with lumpy stuff bear in mind that most people keep their cards in trading card plastic sleeves and really heavily embellished cards don't fit well. Many people use playing cards as the backing medium since they are the right size. On the back of your art work place your name, contact info (usually email), the date and title of the card or title of the swap, and if you want to get into the numbering thing you can number your cards. For a detail explanation about the numbering thing check the website at lisavollrath.com which also has some great examples of ATC work. Type in ATC in any search engine and you'll get lots of great sites. It's a fun, inexpensive way to share your creative spirit with others...you'll find the tiny canvas very liberating in an odd way. hope that helps.

Marcia,

Just wanted to let you know your answer about ATC's has given me the courage to try making some for the first time. I am also crazy about Halloween so I think I will give it a shot. Wish me luck!

ps. to nonpariedolls I don't think there is such a thing as a dumb question....if someone needs an answer they deserve to have their question answered...how else do we gain knowledgs?

Blessings!

Kari from WA, I received your wonderful cards, but I don't know which person on the list you are (there's no Kari listed on the participant's list)--just wanted to let you know I think they're fabulous!
