This is the 5th installment to the Guardians of Ga'Hoole illustrated series, if you are not familiar w/this series, this series is all about noble owls depicted like knights of Camelot, it's written by Kathryn Lasky, & the series is called Guardians of Ga'Hoole. Expect to see all of your favorite characters from the amazing young adult fantasy novel series following this swap. Please Note: it is not a requirement to know or read this series or stories, this swap is inspired by the series & a fun way to introduce illustrating different species of owls.

For this swap you are to create & design your own depiction of Otulissa (Species: Strix occidentalis, Spotted Owl), other owls may be on your card but, Otulissa must be the main character. The style you choose to depict of owl & the decision as to owl's appearance is up to the artist (sender). Make something you would be proud to trade or matte & frame for your own wall, this is for 1 quality illustrated ATC, for 1 partner.

Newbies with well filled out profiles are welcome. Providing links to your work is encouraged for newbies & seasoned swappers. 4.9 or higher are welcome, no unexplained 3s or 1s, I will be checking profiles before the swap begins. I will angel if the need arises. I shall also be providing links to future Ga'hoole swaps under the description section of each Ga'hoole owl swap.

Thank you for your participation & I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have about this swap or this series.

I would love a chance to do some make-up swaps for the previous owl swaps that I missed. Might there be a make-up swap in the future? Or would anyone want to do a private swap with me? I wouldn't mind trading nice reproductions of previously traded art for the make-up. I just started reading the books and am addicted. Plus I love owls and would just love a collection of different owls from different artists. (Not to mention the incentive to push myself to create my own renditions of the owls that I have missed.)

The stories are addictive & I have loved working on each species of owl for this series. I have signed prints of at least a few of the owls I did for this project, if you are interested. :) I won't have time to construct make-up swaps for this series until 2011, that is, if there is a demand.

Btw, which owls (or numbers) have you missed from the series?

Strixie 10/15/2010 #

I am certainly interested! I missed the first three, Soren, Gylfie, and Twilight ...I would for sure love a barn owl, but if you plan on doing a future swap of Eglantine, I can eagerly await for that swap to come up. ;) I certainly don't expect you or anyone to fulfill my gaps, I thought I would throw it out, in case you or anyone would be up for it. Of course, no pressure! Whatever you or anyone else feels inspired to swap. :)

I have a few different available barn owl prints. I've done 3 different Tyto alba ATCs. I have a Gyfie available, & if I do get my printer to work correctly from my pc, then a Twilight print will be yours, too. ;)

I love making owls, especially found of the tytos albas. I won't have time to do a private trade for original illustrated until 2011. If you would like or prefer to trade originals, I could make arrangements for a private trade w/you & myself if you would like when it is convenient for both of us. :)

I have thought of doing Eglantine (& we might, depends how long everyone stays around to play w/the series) but, we will shall definitely be doing Kludd/Metal Beak. Not the Metal Beak from the film, I shall continue to follow the books. :)

I also have a couple of extra cards that I would be willing to swap with you. I have both Soren (Barn Owl) and Gyfie (Elf Owl) available in color, plus I have Twilight (Great Grey Owl) but in black and white only. You can see them on my Flickr (I don't have a picture of the B&W Great Grey Owl but it is the same deisgn with no color). Just let me know if you would like to swap.

You guys are awesome! All of your illustrations rock! I am not worthy of your art! I've decided to do NaNoWriMo which will basically consume all of my time in November. So I might not be ready to swap until December or January at this point. (Plus, I want to keep up with the current owls too, if I can!) But I love both of your illustrations and would love copies (or new originals) at some point. I am for SURE doing barn owl when I get a chance! I so adore owls and illustrations.

Here's my digger if anyone wants to swap copy for copy in the meantime. http://www.flickr.com/photos/strixiecan/5097087089/ Otherwise, I'll track you down when I get more owls made. I know where you live! Okay, I don't know where you live, but I know your usernames! :)

Are you kidding me, you are a wonderful artist, love your style! Omg, your version of Digger is precious, I would certainly do a reproduction trade w/you! Btw, I added you as a friend on my Flickr, now you have access to my private art stream.

Same w/you, the last of the owls for this year is the Snowy Owl, I have an extended due date on, this should give everyone enough time to make their owls. I won't be posting more owl swaps until 2011. :) Also, I may stop trading private originals until 2011. The holiday season is always a busy time for me plus, the Sketchbook Project will have me busy until January's due date.

I'll PM my snail addy for whenever we are ready for trading. :)

Strixie -- I checked out your "Digger" and he is adorable! I would love to do some private trades with you -- anytime you want. I agree the next two months will be busy with holidays, so thanks Cat for slowing down the swaps a bit. I am enjoying them and would hate to miss out on any!
