Description:

Ever find yourself stumped when it comes to gift giving? Is money tight, or do you just want to go green the handmade way?

This swap is for those of us who are always scratching our heads just before the holidays or a birthday. Your task is to come up with 4 ideas for frugal gift giving—they can be craft ideas (knit, crochet, sewn, generally crafted) based on your and your partners' interests, or gifts that can be compiled or bought for the equivilant or under $10/10 Euro. Email these ideas, along with any helpful links, tips, or pictures you might have, to 2 partners.

A few things to know: --You need a minimum of 4 ideas.

--This is an email swap. Send BCC.

--You will have 2 partners.

--Do not confuse “frugal” with “cheap”. Put ideas out that are inexpensive, but nice to receive. Stretch the dollar/euro a little farther in these tougher economic times.

--Everyone is welcome here. That means you, newbies and unrated swappers! Just have a well-filled out profile.

--“Everyone” also means those of us with 3s or 1s on our records. Boost your ratings and get good swapping karma back

--This is not holiday-specific.

--Tutorials are not a must, but would be nice. This is merely to compile a viable list of gift options :)

--This swap is super easy, super quick. Feel free to compile your list now.

Welcome to the swap!

I would totally join, but the only email swaps I've joined have been disappointing on the "rating" end. I've put in personal thought and care into them only to recieve fives, no hearts and no comments. I do not join swaps for hearts but it's nice to know someone appreciated "extra" care/work.

Really? Most of my email swap partners (roughly 95%) have been great. They left wonderful comments and were generous with hearts.

madhatter, I'm running into the same thing, but I've had some that really do recognize the work that went into it. And I always try to look for the little bit extra that goes into the e-mail (like adding reasons for choosing things on a list, adding pictures, writing about two things when only one is required) so I can give out hearts without feeling like the person didn't earn it. And I ALWAYS try to give comments so the people know that I actually read it. So if you join and you get me, you won't have to worry about someone being stingy on hearts or comments. :D

I ran into the same thing, and asked someone neutral about it. The person told me that many who've been here a long time simply do not give hearts for e-mail swaps, ever. They feel like it isn't enough work done to merit a heart. But what those folks don't realize is that there are certain groups and swap hosts who look at the percentage of 5 w/hearts as a factor in whether you'll be allowed or not. It's particularly hard when you are new, as I am, and one less heart definitely would affect that percentage.

I hope that anyone joining this swap will give as much serious thought to effort and hearts as you three do--it's nice to see someone cares!

I'm looking forward to this!

I hate to do this, but I'm going to have to leave the swap. I've gotten so far behind in so many other things and, at the moment, I can't think of more than one idea and I don't want to give a shoddy swap to someone. I'm really sorry about this.

Not a problem, hopefully there will be a next time :)
