About Me

I'm a customer service rep by day and unlike most, I actually kind of like it. I love sending and receiving mail and would love to develop some snail mail pen pal friendships along the way. But if not - yay swaps! I enjoy crafting and making things. I recently started learning Japanese and love Japanese culture, including all things kawaii. I have gotten back into bentoing and I can't wait until I bento for someone else's lunch besides my own, too. My Nintendo DS goes with me almost everywhere, along with one of the books I'm currently reading, my iPod nano, a pen and some paper. I'm a geek at heart.

I love taking pictures of the things I send and receive and by default I post the pictures I take to my flickr account (with credit given, of course!). If you do NOT want anything you send to me to be posted publicly, please let me know and I'll keep the pictures private. =)

Favorite Music

Musical soundtracks (The Wizard of Oz, Wicked, Aida, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Rent, Hedwig, Avenue Q... the list goes on and on) make up a disproportionate amount of my music. The rest is (brit)pop, world music (I love Putumayo), foreign language music (it's a great way to learn) and a random smattering of hip hop and classical.

I love the Flobots, and not just because they're local but their music has a message, is poignant and innovative. I also like Lily Allen, Katy Perry and Eminem.

Favorite Books

The Little Prince, A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Dark Tower Series (especially The Drawing of the Three), A Dirty Job, Remember Me? and a lot of others. I prefer to read more books instead of the same ones over and over. I would like to get into some manga, but I don't know where to start yet! I tend to prefer books by contemporary authors, or at least within the past 60 years or so. I've just discovered I really like Nick Hornby. I'm on a kick reading about London as I just visited at the end of May. I like non-fiction, especially if it's about epidemics and diseases or the other side of big historical events that you don't often hear about. I like mysteries and thrillers and science fiction but am not into chick lit very much, though there are a few really good books in that genre.

Favorite Movies

I love character driven movies and foreign movies so Run Lola Run, Amelie and Slumdog Millionaire are at the top of my list. I love the Bourne trilogy, partly for the international locales and espionage, but mostly for Franka Potente, Julia Stiles and Matt Damon. I like suspense and horror movies and thrillers where the bad guy is a criminal mastermind, like Hannibal Lecter or Jigsaw. I avoid movies that I know will make me bawl like a baby, but sometimes it's good to watch those too (Message in a Bottle, We Were Soldiers). I like Fellowship of the Ring a lot more than the rest of the LOTR trilogy and after the first Harry Potter movie where they took out the scene where Hermione solves the potion logic puzzle, I kind of lost interest in the series. I think Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are a fantastic movie-making team. I like documentaries like Helvetica, Word Play and Word Wars.,

Favorite Television

I never missed an episode of The X-Files while it was on and used to watch The Real World (through London) somewhat religiously. I don't own a TV anymore and never got on the reality TV bandwagon beyond my original fling with The Real World, but I enjoy watching television shows on DVD (or hulu or Netflix): My favorites are House, M.D., Voyager (and other Star Trek series), Dead Like Me and I'm just getting into Lost.

Favorite Crafts

I love knitting and always come back to it. I prefer thread crochet or working with a Q needle than anything in between. I like paper crafts like ATCs, inchies, altered books, making stationery and scrapbooking. I made and sold jewelry for awhile and still have most of my supplies and if I had more room I'd probably make more use of them. I would like to sew better than I can, but I can't so I usually shy away from it except for a few weeks a year where I get gung ho about an easy sewing project and the idea of making my own tailored clothes. I like recycling things and giving them better, craftier lives.

Likes

I like most things that are fun, whimsical or clever. I also like things that make me ponder life, the universe and everything. Spooky and macabre things also have a place in my world.

I like deep jewel tone colors or bright vintage-y colors generally. Dark gray and baby pink or brown and baby blue are great color combinations. Also, purple and lime greeen.

I like random things, especially anything related to stationery or the art of letter-writing. Small containers are always welcome and will be filled quickly if they aren't already!

I've just started to really like Sanrio characters, especially Kuromi and Hello Kitty, naturally.

I like discovering things or hearing about others discoveries.

I'd really like to start collections of inchies and ATCs of all kinds.

I like Science Fiction a lot (Star Trek, especially), but am not enamored by fantasy nearly as much.

I like old school Nintendo games and most board and card games (old and new).

I like tea and tea-related things.

Chocolate is good, gummy candy is better, but gum is best.

Dislikes

I'm here for the fun of things and would prefer not to receive anything mean-spirited or hurtful. I'm not religious, though I can appreciate why others might be.

I feel like sometimes I'm the only person who doesn't like coffee, not even the smell of it.

I don't particularly like hard candy, jelly beans or marshmallow-y candy.

Glad you like the excess. Thought you'd like a Dorothy/Wizard deco to eventually come home to you. :)

Artistic on Aug 3, 2009:

I'm so glad you got and liked the deco. I think I mentioned that it was very hard to part with that one! :) I hope it comes back to you filled with beautiful images of Asia.
