It Starts With A Pencil mailart project

About Me

I don't have a long list of my like and dislikes here because for the type of swaps that I join I don't think it really matters. I don't join swaps that require you to go out and buy me anything - I could just as easily go out and buy it myself and save everyone the cost and hassle of mailing!

I really enjoy finding out about what inspires you. I think that is far more interesting than what you might come up with if you were trying to conform to whatever I might list here.

Zine project updates

If you sent me something for my mailart zine, I have sent out copies to everyone who contributed. I'm also going to use this zine for Alma Stoller's I Heart Zines exchange, so I won't be sending out any other copies until after that is over.

Secrets zine: I've sent out copies to everyone who contributed. It proved rather difficult for some people who signed up to actually share their secrets. I guess, somethings are better kept as, well, secrets.

It Starts With A Pencil

This is an ongoing mailart project. I'm sending out a series of ATC Jams that all start with a handcarved pencil. Check out the link listed above to find out more, or send me a message if you would like to participate. M

Halloween stuff

I don't usually have much in my profile about my likes and dislikes, but since I joined a Halloween themed swap, I thought it would be helpful to let me partner know some things about me.

First, I LOVE Halloween, it is my favourite "holiday". I always get dressed up and go trick or treating with my kids. I prefer the scary, creepy aspect of halloween rather than the cutsie style, but its all good. I have no fears or phobias, so spiders, mice, blood (not real!!) and more are all okay.

I do wear jewelery and have pierced ears.

I enjoy all sorts of crafts, from paperbased - ATCs, zines, art journals, art dolls, stuffies, fabric and fibre, knitting, crocheting, quilting, 3D sculptures, ornaments and decorations. Just do what you like, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

Comment: Misti, thank you so much for the package. I started opening pressies, and I love them. Say hi to your neighbor for me, I think it's a great idea to include her handmade crafts. Happy autumn, Vesna.

Comment: Loved reading your lastest edition! The cartoons are fun. And Kootenay was an incredible cat -- ditto your essay!
Response: glad you enjoyed. Yes, Kootenay was a pretty amazing cat - very un"cat" like

Comment: What a great 'zine! I especially liked the story about your data entry job. I can so relate to some of your feelings from previous jobs I have had myself! I haven't read all of it yet, I still have the book reviews to read :-) I liked the ATC on the front too, that was a nice touch.

Comment: I really liked your 'zine! Great stories (especially the one about your "soul-destroying"...and "Brazil-like" job--I think everyone has had at least one of those in their lives!) and I love the crafty ideas included, too. If I can pry my daughter away from her current book, I'll see if she'll do the ATC project with me. Thank you so much for such a lively and enjoyable read! Kate PS: We have got some eerie similaries going on in our lives...it's one of the fabulous thing about the internet...finding people from all over the world who share interests with you...it always makes my day!
Response: Glad you liked the zine and I apologise about any unkind comments about librarians. I actually love libraries and would have liked to have been a librarian, but life had other ideas. You are right about the eerie similarities. My kids are also nearly 11 and 8! Hope you see you in another swap sometime. M

Comment: Thank you - this envelope made me very happy! I've been doing some lino printing lately, so I love all the ideas in your block printing zine. Cool stuff :-)
Response: I'm glad you liked it. Have you tried doing eraser cuts? Way easier than working with lino. you can usually buy sheets of the material in art stores - near the lino supplies - you use the same tools to carve it, but they just slice through it so much more easily.

Comment: Thanks! I had a huge stack of mail on my desk and got your book mixed up with another one with book reviews (hence my previous confusing rating. I have now figured out the mistake. Oh, and I put your bonus ATC in the mail to a friend for further modification. Thanks!
Response: Thanks Betsy, I was a bit confused, but I'm wondering which books you've added to your list. Maybe I'd like them too. And thanks for sending on the ATC too.
