My hubby & I have been married 28 years and are parents of three unique children who are adults now. Our daughters flew the nest in 2007 and once our son leaves we will celebrate an empty nest!
We adopted several four legged friends over the years, 2 cats (Allie & Leo) and an English Setter named Duke.
If you want to know more about me, visit my blog of my ramblings listed above.
I work full time but in my spare time I love to eat, sleep, cook, sew, quilt, and crochet. Also, because of my love of cooking & eating (favorite food is chocolate), I also work out at the local Y four or five times a week. I am constantly trying to lose weight. I enjoy hanging out on the website Recipezaar.com and collect recipes I may or may not try. I also spent time taking classes on Virtual University (www.vu.org). Learning is a life long process. Check my website listed above for some of my VU work.
Quick Note to my partners in the Friendship Afghan Swaps - I would like my squares either gray (any shade), black or white THANKS!
I like sitting on the deck on a spring or summer morning, sipping a flavored coffee, reading a book and listening to the birds sing. I planted a small container garden on the deck to grow herbs, a few veggies and some butterfly loving flowers. I like going to work running 4 elementary school libraries. I think the best sounds in the world are pages being turned in a book, especially the sound a book makes the first time you crack it open, a baby's giggle, a cat's purr and a dog's tail thumping when he see's you walk into a room. I love the smell of a book - especially if it is brand new. If Glade could copy that smell I'd plug it in every room of my house.
I enjoy listening to music from the 70's. some people call the music the oldies. I also enjoy some classical music. I definitely do not like opera or rap and can barely tolerate country music.
Give me a good murder mystery and I can read for hours. John Grisholm, Linda Fairstein, Johnathon Kellerman, Faye Kellerman, Tami Hoag are among my favorites. For a great laugh Janet Evanovich is by far my favorite author. I especially enjoy her Stephanie Plum series.
Normally I don't watch movies - too much sitting in dark places when I could be actively doing something. Some friends have introduced me to Tyler Perry movies. Diary of a Mad Black Woman is his best. I also enjoyed Failure to Launch (probably because I have a 22 year old son who will probably never leave home) and The Last Vacation with Queen Latifah
My TV viewing preferences are quite ecclectic. I look forward to Boston Legal but also enjoy almost any of the CSI, Law and Order type shoes. I don't know why but I do not like CSI New York - probably the actors. I have recently gotten hooked on the re-runs of Three and a Half Men and Everybody Loves Ray. I'm looking forward to the return of Monk. I absolutely love to watch Rachael Ray and sometimes enjoy Martha Stewart. I get a good laugh from the courtroom shows but now there are way to many on. I do not like watching any of the soaps. On Public TV I enjoy cooking & sewing shows along with Red Green and Keeping Up Appearances
Sewing, crocheting, (I cannot knit), quilting, reading, cooking & baking (although I hate to clean up).
In the past 25 years I have not gone far from home. Three years ago two friends, the hubby & I traveled to Washington DC. That was my first time on an airplane since the 1970's. Prior to our DC trip I traveled by train to Washington DC and also to Denver Colorado. This summer my hubby and I flew to LA, spent the night and then the following night flew to Fiji. After a short layover we will flew to Vanuatu where our oldest daughter is serving in the Peace Corps. Since Vanuatu is only 1500 miles NE of Australia, we will also spent a week in Australia. I truly loved this vacation, spending time with Steph, meeting her wonderful host family in Vanuatu, spending time in Vanuatu (it's paradise) and visiting Australia. Visit my blog site listed above for pictures and updates about our trip.
hmmm, I don't like rude people, lazy bosses, children who do not respect their parents, people who do not put things back where they belong (like in the grocery store - if you take something off the shelf, put in in your cart and then decide you don't want it you should retrace your steps and put it back where you got it from), potholes in the road, long winters. Food I don't like: okra, brussel sprouts, beef, pork, lima beans and raw fish. I definitely don't like people who drive too fast and get angry with people who are obeying the law. I don't like war. .....
