About Me

-SPOILER- I've started to post some pictures of recent swaps on Flickr. Usually shortly before or after I send it off. -SPOILER-

My name is Monique and I'm from Germany.

I've always liked to receive letters. And I also like the idea of random act of kindness. Swap-bot seems to be the connection of both things. :) These days I enjoy creating mail art like postcards.

Favorite Crafts

I try to do a lot of things. After a while I always have to try something new. Latest interests are handmade postcards, Pocket Letters and Zentangling.

  • Crocheting
  • Knitting
  • Working with paper
  • A little bit of poor drawing
  • Some sewing

Favorite Music

Alternative, Indie, Garage, a bit Folk, 50s Rock'n'Roll/Rockabilly...

To name a few (often changing): Temples, Kasabian, Katzenjammer, Florence + the Machine, Hot Boogie Chillun, Public Service Broadcasting...

And I would be glad if you could recommend me something.

Favorite Television

I'm not a movie fan, instead I love TV Series even more!

Pushing Daisies, Sherlock, White Collar, Grimm, Rizzoli & Isles, Death in Paradise, Father Brown, Doctor Who, Burn Notice, Chuck, Warehouse 13, Perception...

Lately I'm starting in classic series: The Avengers (Peel & Steed!), The Persuaders!...

Random Likes

Colours: purple, turquoise, teal, dark blue, blue, red

Some ideas for sending: ~I don't collect anything but I like surprises!~ fabric - buttons - patterns for small crochet/knitting projects - handmade things - "consumable" things for crafting e.g. paper, washi, ephemera... everything that I could use for creating mail art (as I don't have enough space for dust traps :)) (or just ask)

I don't like

jewellery - dogs - decorative cosmetics - Disney - Emojis - something with vanilla or sweet fragrance - Manga - off-season Christmas (I'm starting slowly to care about one month before, at the earliest) also not overly excited about Halloween

Teas I love: green (plain or + herbs...) - white - herbal - with lemon and ginger - fresh tastes in general ... (no matter if it comes in bags or if it's loose- as long as it's sealed)

I'd like to try again: Four O'clock - Green tea with rose

Teas I don't like: all fruity or sweet teas (apple, hibiscus, rose hip, berries...) - vanilla - black tea - cinnamon - instand tea - honey - something with vanilla or sweet fragrance

Comment: When I pulled this card out of my mailbox, I immediately noticed how beautiful it is. After reading your message about the surreal class, I had to look again. WOW it just seems to flow so well together, I never questioned it one bit. I sure do love it. You have some artsy eye. If you ever get me again, I say send another one.
Response: Oh, thanks so much for your kind rating! You should try this too, it's fun! The hardest part is to collect suitable travel catalogues pictures. :)

Comment: Lovely postcard, Monique. your "random scraps" work beautifully together. Thanks so much.
Response: Great, thank you! No scrap is left behind! :)
Comment: What a good idea having the mushrooms coming out of the smoke stacks. I also liked the woman doing yoga out of the smoke stacks. Clever.
Response: My pleasure, thank you! Maybe the yoga exercise is called smoking mushroom. :)
Comment: Thanks, love the post card!
Response: You're welcome! I'm lucky that Fra Mauro found it's way!
Comment: Thank you for the fun postcard. I especially like how you used the parts of the clock face.
Response: My pleasure, thank you! And time goes by with elephant steps...
Comment: Hooray! Your re-send for this swap arrived and I LOVE it! I recently got some paper to do cyanotypes myself, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Yours is an inspiration. There is a marvelous book titled Radioactive by Lauren Redniss, in which she uses many cyanotypes to illustrate her story of Marie & Pierre Curie. I highly recommend it. Thanks so much for your wonderful card & I’m so sorry the first one went astray.
Response: Ah, superb! Good luck in making your own cyanotypes, it's real fun! I've looked up the book, you even can see the imprint of the foil she used to print her drawings on! It's a great idea to choose this way of illustration for a book about scientists.

Response: My pleasure, thank you! I hope that the provisions (asparagus) was enough for the long travel of the bird. :)
stephiedee rated for OMAE: Stamp Sheet on Oct 16, 2018
Comment: Hello, Monique! Thank you so much for the beautiful swap! I have never made real cyanotypes, only a short-cut version using photosensitive paper. Yours came out really spectacular---thank you for sharing. I love your stamp sheet, too. I will have to save some in my special stamp book. 💙💙💙
Response: I'm relieved that it made it savely through the hurricane and that you were save too. Now I will pause making cyanos. I think the pile will be enough through the winter. :)

Comment: Thanks Monique! I love your collage postcard! The animals-in-chairs idea is fun. You are right, the yellow sofa needs that canary. And who doesn’t like a ghoast this time of year? I will put your assignments on paper and send it by mail by the way, so you have all the time you want! Best wishes! Groetjes Barbara
Response: Wonderful, thank you! And when it's dark outside you can spot a canary quite easily. :) I'm excited and will look forward for your tasks!

Guess what arrived yesterday? Your beautiful bit of orange postcard - the latest. Thank you so much. It's really great. I guess that confirms that it was likely the weather or sending from Hamburg. Well, thanks again.
