About Me

badge

I'm a 29 year old single female in Nova Scotia.

I miss swapping...I'm glad to be back but my mailed swaps won't be many due to cost.

Things I have liked in the not so distant past are geocaching (plan to do again), doing crafts (plan to do again), collecting lapel pins (plan to do again with restrictions, see wishlist below), and learning new things (always plan to do this).

I'm a foster mom to a beautiful black kitty, I don't know if I can give her up and may adopt her. (I'm in the process of adopting her...her name is Ebony Rose and she is a darling black kitty with golden eyes). She likes just about all kitty toys and treats...especially squishy and soft toys/balls and mice. I'm a struggling Christian. Someday I'd like to start (or help start) a Christian based drop-in center to help people with Mental Health Disorders and people who are or are at risk of being homeless in my city. I've had experiences with both Mental Health Disorders and with homelessness and have made tremendous progress but my experiences taught me that this city lacks a lot of basic and helpful services. At the very least I'd like to help collect, organize, and arrange donation for those in need...and am working to keep meeting that goal.

I like Tinkerbell (especially if she's got a grumpy type look), stars, the colors green (grassy), chocolate brown, blue (teal/aqua) and orange. I want to collect colorful and unique buttons and beads. love candy and at the same time I like organic and natural products. Go-figure.

I'm have an unknown autoimmune disorder which severely affects my energy and getting a cold/flu or infection of any type can be dangerous but hopefully it won't affect anything here. The only real problem I can foresee is that the incredible lack of energy at times might effect getting stuff to the post office...but I plan on sending early as much as possible so I can't see it being much of a problem.

Anything I make (papercraft-wise) I sign Ello on it. Not sure why (other then it's the last four letters of my name in reverse) but I do. Been doing that for a few years now. That's just my "mark" I guess.

Other random info that at some point might be useful: shoe size 7 US, t-shirt size M or L, if it runs on the smaller size then even XL

Favorite Music

I like a lot of different music...pretty much only type I don't like is Heavy Metal and anything with the whole screaming going on...

I also like relaxation music...you know the type with nature sounds like the ocean, or a thunderstorm, or a winding stream. I'll list more as I think of some.

  • Great Big Sea
  • Avril Lavigne
  • Coldplay
  • Casting Crowns
  • Michael W. Smith
  • Sara Groves
  • Chris Tomlin
  • relaxation/nature sounds (nothing with guided imagery or voices...it creeps me out)
  • Mark Schultz (I think that's how it's spelled)
  • Matchbox 20 *Jessica Rhaye

My all time favorite song (the one that touches my soul every time I hear it) is Angel on my Shoulder by Natalie Cole.

I'm also really enjoying music termed as indie rock though I have no specific favorite bands at the moment.

Favorite Television

House, ER, Gray's Anatomy, Dr G: Medical Examiner, CSI, Little People Big World, Extreme Makeover Home Edition, What Not to Wear, All in the Family, Jon and Kate plus 8, almost any medical documentary, How Clean is Your House

Unfortunately for me I don't have any tv channels but if you have used box sets or a season acquired off the internet (legally of course ;) ) I'd happily accept them

Favorite Books

Life is Tough but God is Faithful by Sheila Walst, Under the Overpass by Mike Yankoski (I am always open to extra copies of this book so I can share it with others), the Bible, when I used to read a lot more I like most anything that was medical suspense...so books by Dean Koontz and Robin Cook were always near the top of the list although to be honest I am kind of tired of them now. Trying to read more inspirational, feel-good books lately but just haven't gotten into the reading mood lately.

Favorite Movies

Gosh, I'm a sucker for Disney and Warner Brothers Movies.
I love Shrek and Juno.
I also like Freedom Writers, The Holiday, August Rush, I am Sam, The Soloist.
I like most movies with Robin Williams, especially Patch Adams. Grease, Now and Then, Turner and Hooch to name a few more. I like Girl Interrupted but I have to be aware of the mood I'm in when I watch it because sometimes I find it brings me down. I really like The Ultimate Gift. I also like The Ring, Final Destination, 28 Days Later and movies like that. It really just depends on the mood I'm in and if there's anyone else watching the movie too. I tend to let others pick their choice first but I'm really kind of getting tired of the chick flicks.

Favorite Crafts

I like doing collages, abstract painting with acrylic or tole paints. I have done some beadwork and would like to do some again soon. I'd like to try embossing but haven't had the opportunity or the finances to try that. I'd like to learn how to knit and sew at some point but I just can't seem to get into it. I do some rug hooking but it's taking me a very long time to get through one project. I tend to work on it for a bit, lose interest for a few months and then eventually go back to it. At that rate it's taking me years. LOL. I also like playing around with chalk pastels. I've tried scrapbooking and loved it but can't get myself motivated to sit down and do any. I love scrapbooking decals and goodies though...I'm always drawn to them at Michael's when I go. I have started making ATC's...well, just a few. I guess I'm still a little worried the quality might not be good enough...possibly true or possibly just a fear of mine. I'm also looking forward to seeing other swappers creations. Basically, I will try most things but I tend to get obsessed for a bit and then bored very quickly. I've tried button (pin) making lately and enjoy it but it's expensive to buy the equipment needed to start up.

I want to try just about everything craft-wise but I really need hands on instruction to help me actually sit down and do it. I have a hard time focusing.

List of Likes

  • glittery items, glitter glue *pretty, colorful, and/or unique buttons and/or beads (I dream of having jars of beads and buttons, all colors of the rainbow, stored in glass jars on a shelf...it excites me and thanks to artsyfartsy this dream has come true!)
  • items with the word strength or strong
  • stars
  • Tinkerbell
  • Carebears (especially the older style one's from the 80's)
  • Gorjuss - Suzanne Woolcott art
  • embellishments
  • lapel pins (see wishlist below)
  • tree frogs (green with red eyes and orange feet)
  • M&M's
  • skittles
  • butterflies
  • dragonflies
  • snowmen
  • snowflakes
  • chocolate
  • items with the words such as strong, strength, hope, faith, love, laugh, believe
  • daisies
  • oceans
  • sunsets
  • colors orange, blue, grassy green, chocolate brown, teal, aqua, turquoise
  • mostly any animals
  • angels
  • squished (or is it smashed or pressed?) pennies (the ones that go through the machines and get something printed on them) We have only 1 place around here to get any and it's almost always out of order when I go. :(
  • beeswax or soy candles
  • puzzles
  • stickers
  • Natural/Organic products
  • Weathered postcards (I like the message on the back, the post office stamp, and everything that goes along with the weathered postcard.
  • christian items (not so much the ones that look really catholic though) *rainbows (symbol of God's promise)
  • angels
  • kool-aid slushies (especially grape)
  • ugly dolls

Allergies

I do have allergies, but nothing that I think would cause a major problem (except maybe very strong scents). If I got anything I couldn't use I would pass it on to someone else. No worries.

For those allergic to cats, I do have one that I try to keep out of my craft stuff but often she gets to it anyway.... I am also allergic to cats (and dogs...actually most animal fur/dander for that matter) quite severely but if a couple stray hairs get in the package it's not a big deal to me. I love animals with a passion and if I wasn't so allergic to them I'd work them as a career.

List of Dislikes

  • pin-ups
  • heavily gothic/dark items
  • incense
  • mushrooms
  • nudity/porn/adult content
  • witchy/pagan items
  • very Catholic looking items
  • smoke
  • strongly scented items
  • wool if it's meant to be worn...just makes me way too itchy but in anything not worn it's fine

Wishlist

In no particular order:

  • something you made, such as an ATC, matchbox, postcard, knit dishcloth, dottee doll, etc

  • lapel pins (especially ones from Hard Rock Cafe, or that are touristy, or support firefighters, police, paramedics, other medical professionals, AND I love, love, love all the Vancouver 2010 Olympic pins especially the mascot ones! Also, ones that support charities or help raise awareness of different causes) ~previously owned are fine

  • other weird and wacky snack foods and candy that I can't get here (to my knowledge). Think Japanese kit kat bars, chocolates, chips, I will try most anything once no matter how weird it is...as long as it's a snack food. Just nothing with fish. LOL. I love (LOVE) curry chocolate...found a curry coconut chocolate bar at a store in Toronto called Pistachio's....now I am wanting it all the time.

  • profile surprise

  • anything from my etsy favorites

  • postcards from you, sent naked with a little something written on it from you
