2017 has been great so far (if I don't fixate on world news;-). Travelled to Surinam - AMAZING! - and just confirmed a week in Haida Gwaii in June (one of the world's most remote places and home to the Haida Nation). My husband and I are visiting India in October with a group of other couples from Rotary.
Preferences: Visual Arts, ATC's, Secular, Human Rights, Agriculture, Cross-cultural Insights, Travel - far and wide, I am particularly fond of the Northern Countries, as well as places like India where colour is used more liberally! I have travelled to 30+ countries including Venezuela, Greenland and Iraq. Not a fan of highly touristy destinations. Cheesy, Medical Related, Vintage, Feathers, Antlers, Teeth, Ravens and Crows, Beetles, Handwriting, Ephemera, Linguistics, Leonberger Dog, Social Work, Mental Health, Local Economy, Textile Art, Authenticity
Dislikes: Corporate branding, Romance, Country music, Girly stuff, Aggressive religious groups, The Isms
Crafts: I have recently done some taxidery with mice. I like gardening though my success is varied. I have ordered some mushroom spawn for reishi. In past, I have tried to grow shiitake but nothing produced.
Reading: some of my favorites include John Steinbeck (loved Cannery Row); 19th century writers in general; Red Sorghum; crime novels; biographies; I Rigoberto Menchu; Rohinton Mistry; most historical fiction.
I don't watch any tv at all. I miss a lot of references.
I love planned giving. In my will, I have given money to SPCA, Immigrant Services and a local historical site, Huble Homestead. In the past month, I have donated to Spruce City Wild Life, Ducks Unlimited (wetland conservation) and my provincial political party.
I am open to private swaps - the wackier, the better. Just drop me a message.
My friend and I have designed a local group called Thrift Shop in a Box. This is basically a rotating thrift store - where a bin of gently used items starts with one woman. She takes what she wants and adds in what she wants then passes it next person, etc., until it gets back to the originator of the box. It is always fun.
