Update for swap mates and SwapBot friends (Aug/Sept 2022)

I have relocated to a new city for work. As such I am on a break from crafting till I settle down. Don't worry about your mail. It is getting collected and would be forwarded to me shortly. I will rate the swaps as soon as possible. I am also trying my best to find a way to become regular on SwapBot again. Till then, wish me luck!

Writing it on 28th June, 2022

For swap partners old and new,

I lost my phone two weeks back and along with it a lot of my photos which weren't backed up on any account or device. Along with that, a whole folder of outgoing swap proofs vanished. Thus, I am going through old swaps which were not resolved. You might receive a message from me for a resend or I would be re-sending a forgotten swap which didn't reach you.

Timeline of these swaps - Sept 2021 till now.

About Me

Hello everyone! I am a college professor who likes to journal, craft, and send letters to friends and pen pals.

A little about the name itself - The Aesthetic Listless Project - for the past few years I've immersed myself completely into work and could not find anytime to devote to what I loved the best. A lot of introspection went into it and I finally decided to delve into this much beloved world of art and craft after what seems like ages. So this is an attempt to get out of that 'listless' state through the craft way. You can connect with me on Instagram as well (same handle).

I have been snailmailing for over two decades but nothing fancy to be honest. Just your usual long correspondence. I love crafting as well but have never mixed these two until this year. I was introduced to swap-bot by a very dear person this year and it has been a pleasant surprise to see this lovely community tucked in this virtual space.

Books, TV Shows and Music

Reader Life: I love to read contemporary literary fiction, postmodern fiction, magic realism, contemporary Indian Writing in English and the likes. That does not mean that I don't read other genres. I am also a fan of manga and try to read what is available.

Some of my favorite writers: Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Kurt Vonnegut, Haruki Murakami, Margaret Atwood, Jerry Pinto, Amitav Ghosh, Jhumpa Lahiri, Arundhati Roy among others.

Book recommendations (even if they are not what I've mentioned here) are more than welcome.

TV Addict Life: I watch a lot of TV shows from across the world and reading subtitles has now become a voluntary habit. I do love the classic British Detective shows and Korean Dramas. If you are someone who likes these then please feel free to send me recommendations. I am always up for those.

Music is Life: I love to listen to all types of music but if I have to see the stats then I believe pop and indie-pop rule my playlist. I also love the contemporary musicians and composers such as Ludovico Einaudi, Howard Shore, Ramin Djawadi, Hans Zimmer and many more.

SEND ME MUSIC RECOMMENDATIONS!!! I am always up to explore music across languages and have no issues to learn about new music. I do love K-pop as well.

Favorite Crafts

I love all things vintage, botanical and floral and hence you will find that aesthetics all around me and in my crafts. I love following YouTube craft tutorials and try new crafts for my penpals and snailmail buddies.

I have become a fan of ATCs (which I discovered here) and try to participate in those actively.

I love zines. I would love to receive them if you have made one and would like to share.

Likes/Wishlist and Dislikes

Likes/Wishlist: It might not be a requirement for most swaps but please do write/send a letter with the mail - a bit about yourself and perhaps the creative process behind that swap.

I love all the pastel shades and have a specific interest in all the soft shades of brown and green. I like to collect postcards, stamps and stickers and would be easily swayed by flipbooks, ephemera and washi tapes.

For crafty mails - I'm looking forward to: Botanical stickers/ephemera, Vintage washi rolls/samples, Floral washi rolls/samples, Yarn samples

Handmade stuff: tags, pockets, flipbooks, ATCs, zines, poetry, story

Dislikes: I am not a fan of puffy stickers or emoji goodies and try to avoid glitter at all costs.

NOTE: Mail from India is taking over two months or more. Please wait a little longer. If it's still not there at your end then please let me know. I do take pictures of what I send and the stamped envelope as well and can provide proof for the same. If you haven't received yours till now then please PM here or DM me on Instagram as that would be the fastest way to connect with me.

Loving this community and the swaps and groups over here.

Have a lovely day!

Comment: I remember rating this when it arrived, but it seems to be blank now. :( Sorry for making you wait for this.

Comment: Dear Paulami, thanks for the great swap and your nswer is great: Why haven't I thought of Hoobington before, when answering my swap? But yes, that's an awesome place to live! XD Yours, Maxi
Comment: I am sorry to rate this but I never received this swap and sent a PM to her about it. She stated she would resend but nothing as of yet. It appears she is not active at this time? I will gladly change this rating if received.
Response: I'm definitely online when it comes to ratings and more so when it has to do with 1 rating. In terms of the original post and the resend - both were sent out when I had promised (1st one based on swap date and the resend when we spoke). I hope they both reach you soon. Still keeping my hopes high I suppose. It is still difficult for me to have a stable craft and snailmail post situation in the new city so I can't promise a 3rd set now. If and when I am able to I'll let you know. The 1 rating can stay so till then because I understand how important it must be. Here is the link of the first set of side clusters that was sent your way (the butterfly and owl one at the bottom left - https://www.instagram.com/p/CfItygKJ05e/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= ). Take care and stay safe. Happy swapping!

Comment: Wow this bookmark is so gorgeous! I'll use it in my next book this month. Thank you so much for the washi stickers too.
Response: Thank you so much! It definitely took it's sweet time to reach you but am glad that it did. I did want to try something different for the bookmark for you. Glad you liked it. Thanks for the rating and the heart. Take care and happy swapping!

Comment: Oh, my goodness, isn't that a moving book? Hard to say it's a 'good book' because of the subject matter, for sure, but I remember the emotional rollercoaster of reading it - or watching the movie - as well. There are some books like this one and memoirs and others that need a special rating scale, I think. Thanks for sharing! :)
Response: Thank you for the heart and the rating and for these incredible thoughtful swaps. I hope my second one reaches you soon as well. I'll try to join in for more email based swaps now till I find a proper address where mail can be sent safely. Till then - take care and stay safe. Happy swapping!
MuggleMom rated for BLC: Big Jubilee Read 5 on Sep 7, 2022
Comment: Paulami, your reviews are always so interesting and balanced with insight and a wonderful eye on the story! I read this novel in 2016 - after watching the movie easily a decade or more beforehand (early 2000's?) and all I can remember after closing the book was "purple prose". If I hadn't seen the movie, I'm not sure if I would have finished the book as quickly as I did. Your review makes me want to revisit the heat of the desert and fall into the lush words of the author. I do recommend the movie for the wonderful players and the sumptuous visuals!! xxMuggleMom
Response: I'm not planning to watch the movie based on your recommendation here. Totally excited! Also, Toni!!! I've moved to a new city and I've so much to write to you. Maybe a lengthy chatty email soon. I hope you are doing well and thriving. Lots and lots of love to you ๐Ÿ’“ take care and happy swapping!
Comment: Thank you for your butterfly notecard and your wish for peace. Indeed I am saddened by the world today too. Hate seems to prevail more than love and kindness. Let's continue to spread kindness through swaps!
Response: I am glad to hear it reached safely. I am taking your beautiful words to my heart and instilling more of love and kindness. Thank you for that and for spreading kindness. Happy swapping!
Comment: Thank you for the pretty card, sweet note and the mini enclosures!
Response: Glad to hear it. Thank you for the rating and the heart.

Comment: Dear Paulami, Thank you so much for this wonderful book page accordion pouch. This was such a fun and easy to do project, and I love the paper you chose to make your pouch. It has that real vintage feel that I love so much. And many thanks for all the wonderful goodies you tucked into the pockets. Great botanicals, butterflies, the owl - I love it all. Thank you so much - you are my first swap partner in India!!
Response: I am so happy to hear that it reached you safely. I did try to include as many details I could keeping your profile in mind. That owl was looking forward to a home and you seemed like the best person for it. Thank you for your kind words, heart and rating.

Comment: Thank you so much for the lovely happy mail! I absolutely love everything you sent; thank you for being so thoughtful! (Did you like the chillhop?)

Comment: I haven't read Persuasion yet, I don't think. Or it's been 20+ years. For some reason, I never got much into Jane Austen when I was younger (I'm more of a mystery person, I guess!) But I do have it and Emma on my "to be read' lists. As for Stephen King - I didn't read him for years and years, not til after I got married and my husband convinced me King wasn't "too scary" & I have been a HUGE fan ever since. They are creepy, they are spooky, but I love the way he writes the characters, the settings - omg. :) Christine was good, better than I remembered. (My son just read it so I re-read to talk about the book with him. I Think The Shining is next for us.) If you read one King book that you don't really enjoy, don't give up on him - try another era of his writing. :) And I'm more than willing to chat and recommend! :) As I said - super fan. Or, Constant Reader, as he says. :) Another GREAT book - spooky - is The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (King is also a fan of that book, and I can see how the writing influenced him - it's wonderful!) :)
Response: I am willing to delve into the world of King (soon). I have read Carrie, Rage and the short story, "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption". What should be the next book or short story that I should read? Jackson's work is something I want to get into but haven't found the time to do so yet.

Comment: Thank you for the interesting review of both books. You gave me much to think about. I have not read either book but it makes me want to give them a try perhaps. I appreciated how you discussed how they apply today and how the events aren't that far in the past.
Response: Thank you so much for your kind words and the heart+rating. I hope you do get to pick up these two books at some point. They are perfect to critique at this point in history.
