Description:

First & foremost; This quilt block is a challenge swap.

Absolutely NO traditional quilt blocks.

This is an improvisational - NO MEASURING (finished dimensions only & we will get to that) - do not over think it do not plan - just sew.

If you are unsure what this type of quilt block is - please message me. I can send you photos.

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!! After a conversation with another swapper - I'm making a minor change - 10/12/11

Use scrap fabric (quilters cottons only - still use quality fabric) - and make a quilt block - the SIZE is receivers choice. This means - when you are assigned partners - send them a message & ask what size they prefer. 9x9 12x12 --

Only the SIZE is receivers choice - the rest - colors & style are senders choice.

The idea is to make a block very spur of the moment - adding & building on it until you get your outside/finished size. There must be small pieces of fabric worked into the design.

Here are a few links - These are examples of very GOOD improv blocks. http://www.flickr.com/photos/27953607@N05/5519471027/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/ohfransson/5366135488/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/uppitygirl/4268506052/

This one isn't bad, but it misses the point a little - http://www.flickr.com/photos/betty_whoosh/2300290512/ make the shapes different & uneven - use solids & designs !!

I hope the examples help! I hope there is a good response I'd like to do more of these - also would like to do more than 1 partner - please let me know if that is something others are interested in.

I'm sorry - but no unrated swappers. Reliability is a must. Make a lovely interesting block for your partner!

Get making!

here is a scrap fabric swap I am hosting - if you want/need some small pieces to work with - this could help! Plus its a quick turn around, you'll have them before you need to send the block!

Great swap idea, but I mostly only do group swaps these days, having been flaked on so much in public swaps.
