Description:

Newspaper ATC Swap: Let’s reuse the newspaper! For You may be surprised at the wealth of good source material you can find in a plain old newspaper to make art with. For this swap you will make artist trading cards (ATCs) that use only words or images from a newspaper as the illustrations and/or text. You may embellish the ATC further with paint or ink to add some color, and/or add small embellishments if you desire and just can’t stop yourself! You may also use a non-newspaper background so long as the images and/or text are from the newspaper. Transfers are also fine so long as what is being transferred is text or images from a newspaper. Use any part of the newspaper including the comics or sales flyers, coupons, colored sections, so long as it was part of a newspaper.

Artist Trading Cards must be 3.5 x 2.5 inches in size. The ATCs will be originals, no photocopies allowed.

You will make 3 ATCs for 2 partners, send each partner 3 ATCs, for a total of 6 ATCs for this swap.

Swappers must have a rating of 4.5 to take part although newbies are welcome.

I have had way too many "no sends" lately so I am updating the minimum rating to 4.5. Anyone with a a no send to any of the swaps I host will be banned as well. It is not fair to not send your swaps as per the rules.

The "send by" date is the date the swap must be postmarked not the date it must be received by.

Per the Swap-bot guidelines, those who follow the swap rules should be given a rating of 5, those who send but don't follow the rules should get a 3 (I take that as late by the postmark) and those who send nothing should be rated a 1.

This is an international swap.

Thanks for playing!

This should be fun for me, considering I work at my local newspaper! :) Great swap idea!

Hi everyone, I am glad we have so many people interested in this swap. I just updated the guidelines to be more strict about who can play, 4.5 rating is the new minimum.

Newbies are welcome.

I joined Swap-bot in October and am surprised at the number of 'no sends'. I have been on the losing end of the stick for that and it doesn't feel good and it is not in the spirit of swapping to do that to another person.

Anyone who does a 'no send' on any of my hosted swaps will be banned from all other swaps that I host.

I don't know what else to do to try to encourage people to follow through on their committments.

Remember that you can drop out of a swap at any time before the signup date occurs if you get busy, life gets in the way or whatever.

Lastly another way to organize your swaps is to read the swaps first, get ideas, make the ATCs, then after they are done, to offically sign up, then they are done way ahead of time and you can sit back and relax knowing your committment is fulfilled.

Sorry to talk about bad news today.

I hope everyone has fun making these ATCs. ENJOY!

Hm, to bad, I do not have 4 ratings yet, one swap went wrong And she did not received my cards although I did sent them! so I sent again 3 card that mean the bat rating will be gone. It sounds really fun to me. I do live in the Netherlands. Well maybe another time then Gr fr Martha

Everyone should be able to view their swap partners now.

I hope everyone enjoys the process of creating their ATCs.

None of the participants was rated at or under 4.5 at the time this swap closed. Newbies were welcomed to participate.

THANKS!

Speaking of ratings, i have a few words... lately I have gotten 3 ratings of 1, even though I had sent the items out ahead of the date due. I am assuming that they became lost in the mail, because others in the same swaps had given me ratings of 5. My overall rating was 5 all the way until these 1s came in. I know it's frustrating to not get what you are expecting, but maybe a a quick note to your partner is a good idea, before you assume that they did not send out their swap. I sent a second post card to one person, and she got that one, so she changed my rating, and now I need to send more things overseas because my partner did not recieve her items, also to someone here in the USA. What I am getting at is that the mail system is not perfect, nor is the rating system, and it's just as frustrating to those of us who have sent our items, to have to send them again, just to maintain their good rating. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. It might not mean much, but at least I got it off my chest! susi

I know problems with the mail does exist. It must be frustrating to make the ATCs, put the time in, send them out, spend money on postage then have them not arrive at their destination--that stinks.

For another swap the participant was very creative and used a magazine image to make a handmade envelope. The address was on a dark blue part of the paper and it took 14 days to go from TX to CT within USA. It was late but I rated that a 5. I confirmed with my postal clerk that the writing has to be on a light colored background. Anway, that is one more reason for a delay in the mail.

Another thing about the ratings, I have sent out lots of swaps but barely have any ratings. So I am not getting credit either for the work that I did do.

All in all so far I have sent out 27 envelopes and gotten 16 back, so I am averaging getting only 2/3 of what people are supposed to send me. I guess nothing is perfect, is it? But doesn't that seem like a bad average?
