Description:

I did a complete English Alphabet ATC swap recently, with multiple rounds of 5 cards, and it was such fun, and many people missed out on the earlier rounds that I decided to do it again!

This time, I'm including numbers 0-9 to fill it out even more and make it interesting for the ones who've already played. There will be 7 rounds, so if you want to join each one, you can start making your ATCs anytime, and sign up when each one is posted. I will e-mail each member of each round with the new swap info when it's ready. There will be three weeks between sign up deadlines and mailing dates, and a week between rounds(after all swaps are listed as "sent"), so the faster everyone works and sends, the faster we can get through it.

This 1st round swap will be with one partner(always just 1), and you will each send 5 ATCs-one based on each of the letters A,B,C,D,&E from the English alphabet only, please. Each round will be five letters until the last letter-round.

The last letter round will be 6 ATCs, U,V,W,X,Y,Z, then two rounds of five numerals each 0-4 and 5-9. This will give up a total of 36 cards if my arithmetic is correct. That's four 9-pocket collector sheets that will fill a looseleaf notebook nicely.

Any medium can be used, but they must be original artworks, no photocopies, digital are should be embellished a little at least.

This swap is international, so please don't sign up if you aren't prepared to mail out of the country. Higher than 4.0 rating folks have preference here, and if you have a very low rating, you may be dropped.

Also!! Put the name of the swap, your name and username on the inside and outside of your envelope. Better to identify the contents if it gets mangled by the post office, and easier to identify which swap it's from so you can contact the sender to say that it's arrived.

**There is a new idea rolling around the swaps--Swap Cards--like a business card, with your name, username and Swap-bot on it, and you can write the name of each swap to add to the envelope. These can be printed up on your own printer with business card paper. Think about it!

Also--a padded envelope and a piece of stiff card can protect your art from the dangerous journey through the post office machines! Better yet, if they don't have many chunky embellishments, you can put them in a cd mailer! If they are chunky, wrap the ATCs in bubblewrap in the envie. I have a collection of loose aprts that have fallen off ATCs I've received in the mail. One of these days I'll sit down and try to match them up and glue them back on!

Do we get new partners for each round? Am I supposed to be making a matching alphabet, or each letter with a theme in mind, or can they all be different?

twobluecrows 04/17/2007 #

The Swap-bot assigns all the partners so the chances of getting the same person are slim, but not impossible.

You can make all your alphabet cards in the same style, or make each one unique--it's up to you! I did mine generally with different styles of letters (sometimes I used stickers from one set, another time I made all the letters different) and colors based on the images I found representing the letters, sometimes I used line drawings, sometimes photos, sometimes my own art. Theme is also up to you, you can make them abstract or representational, it really is up to your own creativity. So have fun with them! Cyn

Someone asked an interesting question from the point of view of someone who had not played in the first run of my Alphabet Swap earlier this year, she was a little confused about the #2, and wondered if this was the ABCDE round or the FGHIJ round, so here is hopefully a little clarification:

This Alphabet ATC Swap #2 is a second total run of the alphabet. The first round is for ABCDE. The next round will be for FGHIJ and so on probably finishing up with the numbers (not done in the previous Alphabet Swap)sometime in the early fall if things go as slowly as they did in the first run. Sorry if it was confusing--sometimes I write up my swaps late at night when I should wait for the light of day ;)

I am SOOOOOO excited about this swap! Was wondering however if we could just keep the same partner through all the rounds...like whoever is assigned to us in this first ABCDE round remains our partner throughout. My only concern is that once we start with a partner, we would be more inclined to personalize and tailor the ATC's and also we would be sure that this person was going to work well with us and send the swaps. Plus each partener would then have a complete collection of one artist's work to display. I am planning on framing all the ones i get and putting them in our playroom/library, so every child in my house and all my 14 neices and nephews can enjoy them as well. This really is an involved project and I just am hopeful that eveyone puts their all into each piece, that will eventually make a whole! Just a suggestion, to keep the same partner throughout the process, but if not, then I guess it will be a whole new challenge. Take care!

Ok cyn, I am glad that you decided to start this one over again, even though I had thought that I'd do it...Sorry that i did not , but I was kinda put out by some certain things, as you well know, but you know that I am defin ately intersted in doing this, now that it's starting over again. I like the idea of adding the numbers as well! I'm in like Flynn! I ujust hope that there'slenty of time to get the ATCs done so that I can get them done and sent out on time. Thanks for starting over again. susi

I love the fact that we will have different partners for each leg of the swap. Seeing a variety of ways of portraying themes provides more inspiration, appreciation (and occasional awe). Happy swapping, everybody. :0)

FingersInc 05/26/2007 #

Yes, I agree that I like the different partners. I like seeing different people's takes on the same themes. TwoBlueCrows, would it be possible for your to send out a "reminder" to everyone in case we miss the next signups for the balance of the alphabet?

twobluecrows 05/28/2007 #

I will try to remember to send out reminders--I made a note to help me! As for the question about consistency in the ATCs by having one partner throughout, we can't make that happen, but if your partner can find your preferences and requests for something either in a posting here, or in your profile, you could get something suitable for your collection.

I like to think we all check our partner's profiles before making anything so we don't send things they would really dislike. We don't have to totally cater to their every whim, but it's nice to get non-offensive subject matter and nice colors! Cyn

Mine will be going out this weekend. I just lost my job yesterday - so am at a bit of a loss.

Sleepingtraveler ~ Your ATCs are in the post office this afternoon. Hope you like them. :+}

I recieved the most incredible set from Isabelle in France, what a super job, aren't I the lucky one? Thanks Isa, this will start my collection off very nicely!

wiccked 07/14/2007 #

I still haven't received anything for this swap, I'll try messaging my partner again though, before I rate.

wiccked 08/17/2007 #

I didn't ever get a reply from my partner for this swap, and no cards have ever turned up, despite them being marked sent.

I'm disappointed.
