How many songs can you fit on a CD?

A non-holiday, holiday time project.

For this swap, try and put only songs that are between 1 and 2 minutes duration. The end result should be between 40 to 50 songs.

The Rules? I prefer to call them guidelines. That way you can deviate a little, as long as you have fun, and try for pleasing results.

  • avoid popular tunes, in favor of making your partner discover new music.
  • avoid live tracks. Audience/applause don't always fade-in/fade-out, and the volume level makes for an irksome transition from one song to the next.
  • avoid stand-up comic & dialogue tracks, but maybe consider dialogue tracks with background music? makes for a better mix continuity.
  • encourage music genre diversity.
  • extra points (or a heart rating) for anyone who includes a tin of Sardines.

2 partners. International, 'cuz I love artists I've never heard of before. Rating of 4.5 or higher. Angeling? yeah, I'm totally up for that.

P.S. - i may have been joking about the tin of sardines. I work for an international courier company, and, for some reason, U.S. and Germany do not like seafood, canned or otherwise, to cross their borders.

So...how many songs did you guys manage to fit on a CD? I got 74, but I had to stretch the definition of what constitutes a "song" a few times. Maybe it'd be better to say that I got 74 tracks on a CD?

I'm mailing this one out tomorrow....

Well, consider that rule stretched. A lot of these tracks, particularly the early-eighties hardcore entries and some of the ambient sound-collage bits, clocked in at well under a minute. I only included two or three spoken word bits, though, which took some restraint.

Still, this project was a lot of fun, and I thank you for hosting it.
