Description:

While doing Candy Star's Theme a day journals, I thought of this twist to journaling: Streaming thoughts.

You remember the psychology method where someone would say a word and you say the first word that you think of... It's kinda like that but more...

When I got stuck on a theme I would do a Stream of thoughts and use that as my entry. For example:

  • Love...
  • Hearts and flowers...
  • Stupid...
  • In love...
  • How to know...
  • Never been...
  • Love...
  • Family and cats...
  • Many forms...
  • Too many...
  • Too hard...
  • Too different...
  • Never the same...

The important thing to remember is to be honest and write down everything you think; until you reach a conclusion you're happy with.

If you notice I got stuck twice and re-concentrated on the word again.

So here's what I propose:

  • 30 days of streaming your thoughts
  • You can decorate if you wish
  • You can summarize or explain your steam if you wish (my summary for the above was: "You can never love two people/things the same way. It's always different.")
  • You can either use the list provided or do a random dictionary word (with your eyes closed, open the dictionary and point. Use that word as your beginning; don't change it if you don't like it).
  • When your done send your journal to one partner.

Since I'm doing the 2nd theme journal I'm not going to start this till Sept. Newbies welcome. This will be international

Here's the list of words (chosen randomly from the Merriam-Webster's collegiate dictionary 10th ed):

  1. radio
  2. hair dressing
  3. that
  4. otherworld
  5. brusque
  6. whisper
  7. jump
  8. balmy
  9. cartel
  10. coyote
  11. fiction
  12. innocent
  13. latter
  14. make
  15. moral
  16. off
  17. photo electron
  18. satellite
  19. pump
  20. slack
  21. subpoena
  22. throw

When I first clicked on this, I thought it said "Screaming thoughts"

Chuckle. But still, I like it :)

HEY! Meanie. It's not nice to come up with an awesome amazing swap idea inspired by someone else's and not invite them to join in the fun hahahaha... luckily I found this before signups ended... this is such a cool idea for a swap. Woot!

Also... my thought streams tend to be in long sentences since I think really really fast (I wish there was a way to time this, because I think I think faster than he average human being)... like the word "cartel" I already started writing the entry in my head... and it would be like "Cartel... I have no earthly idea what this word means... or what balmy means... crap I'm dumb... I need to go back to school... good thing college is starting... yay for edumacation..."

Would something like that be acceptable? XP

Candy Star, perfectly acceptable. Whoever gets your journal is going to go on a fantastic journey! Kat

I love this idea.

Question for you, Kat: Can the "journal" be ANY format or does it need to be a traditional bound journal?

Kat 08/24/2007 #

You can use any medium as long as it can be sent through the mail and has multiple entries (ie: pages, ATCs, Photos, etc.). It must have your handwriting on it somewhere and be put into some logical order.

Does that sound good to everyone? Kat

I'm in in the last minute :) I love creative writing but don't have nearly enough time to do it :( School work is not that creative, blah. And I can even add crafts in this, yay! Finding this makes me want to find more swaps like this!

erinbit 09/ 1/2007 #

This is my favorite type of writing. My journals are all this type of writing. I never have anyone to share my thoughts with... so this will be exciting :)

My streaming thoughts are floating in the postal system...

Bwahahaha - getting prepared for this swap feels so good that it should be bad.

Debby - your journal went on it's way this morning. They say it should take a week to Australia ... I hope it's not more.

A streaming thoughts journal is on the way to my partner in North Carolina. Happy reading! :)

Kat 10/16/2007 #

Pinkwhirlitop - just met the deadline and got it in the mail yesterday. Sorry I took so long.
