Description:

I am doing a mini workshop with our local Woman's Club members on Artist Trading Cards. I plan to show them many of the cards I have received in trades, show them some techniques and work with them to complete their first ATC. In addition, I plan to introduce them to Swap-bot! So - I am hosting a swap for them and other newbies (and not-so-newbies who remember what it was like when you just got started here at swap-bot!)

Make 1 ATC for 1 partner. The theme is up to the sender - so you can get to work now!

Standard ATC size - 2.5 x 3.5. Make sure your card is something you would be happy to receive. Don't just slap a sticker on a background and call it an ATC.

Hope you'll join and help welcome some new Swap-botters!

Thanks for doing this : I am so scared of doing an ATC ! I don't know why, I make postcards... Maybe because of the word Artist in ATC ? lol I'll give it a try !

I have made a good amount of ATC and still don't consider myself an 'artist'! Crafty - yes - an artist, no! This is a great place to start! Glad to have you with us!

I posted this to the ATCs fpr N00bs group forum. :)

Also, new ATC-ers, please make sure to put the name of the swap, your name and username, the date you made it and the number of cards (in case of a series, this will be one of one which is written "1/1" typically). People often put titles on the back too, so add that if you have a title for the piece.

Can someone please tell me what's on the back of an ATC? Is it just blank?

luleemik 05/ 8/2010 #

I'm brand new to Swap-bot and this is the most welcoming swap I've found...so many are pretentious and not open to brand "newbies".

jj9jj 05/ 8/2010 #

sebastian122 - Different people put different things - but you should at least have your name, your swapbot name, the swap name and a date (I usually just include the month and year). Generally, it also includes a title (one you make up) for your specific ATC, and your email address. If you search for ATC back online you can fine many examples.

luleemik - Glad you found a place to start!! Welcome! Just ask if you have any questions.

absinthe13 05/11/2010 #

does it have a specific theme?

jj9jj 05/11/2010 #

No - sender's choice - so you can pick anything you like - or even try a new technique. I am thinking many who sign up will be newbies and would love anything you put time and effort into making. Sometimes I get my best ideas from seeing ATCs others have made!

I have never heard the term ATC, Is it a homemade card? Just want to know before I sign up fo rthis. Thanks.

jj9jj 05/17/2010 #

Yes - but it is not a card in the traditional 'note card' sense. It is more like a business card with a design, collage, drawing, etc. on the front and info as to the maker, etc. (see above) on the back. Frequently the swaps have themes - for example a Cat ATC swap would probably be for an ATC that had a cat somewhere on it. Most swaps have a theme - this one is open, though, so you can create an Artist Trading Card (ATC) of whatever you want. The Glossary here at Swap-Bot does a better job than I am http://blog.swap-bot.com/swap-craft-term-glossary/

Hi to all newbies! I really need to thin down my ATC collection, so I won't be participating in this swap, BUT, if you are interested in adding to your beginning collection, or seeing a sampling of ATC's from a variety of artists, email me and perhaps we can arrange a private swap for something off my profile. It might be helpful for those of you who are relatively new to this! :)

IceDragon 05/18/2010 #

Ooh, this looks fascinating! Can it be any type of crafty-type thing or more a chance to just let the imagination flow? :D

jj9jj 05/18/2010 #

The theme is open for this one - so use a tried and true technique - or try something new! Just be sure it is the 2.5 x 3.5 standard ATC size and is something you would be glad to get.

bekahdu 05/20/2010 #

Love this, I've been wanting to do an ATC for ages but been too scared! This takes the pressure off a bit..can just relax and do it :)
