Sometimes i get discouraged by how expensive nice art supplies are...and that is usually about when i start drawing with whatever i find around the house. This usually includes Sharpie pens, Hi-Liter pens (highlighters) and colored markers!

Make a drawing or art piece using sharpies (and highlighters or other markers too if you have them) that fits the theme"PAISLEY PASSION." You could just draw a pattern (like a paisley fabric pattern, or a zentangle style drawing with paisleys in it) or you could get more detailed and incorporate paisleys into a scene somehow, for example a drawing of retro-looking hippie girls wearing paisley outfits, or a trippy looking scene of trees or mushrooms that paisleys are incorporated into somehow (as the spots on the mushrooms, paisley shaped leaves on the trees, or paisley shaped clouds in the sky, etc.). At least postcard sized, preferably a bit bigger though (you could use a full sheet of computer paper or cardstock). Spend a little bit of time on making the piece look really good, around 1 HOUR of work (could be less, but preferably more), but DON'T spend any money on it if possible...this should be a CHEAP swap. Try to use things from around the house and if possible don't spend any extra money on supplies.

No ratings lower than 4.8. I will angel a drawing to anyone who is flaked on...but DON'T FLAKE cause that ain't cool, man.

The only rules are 1.) SHARPIE MARKER should feature prominently in this piece, 2.) Try not to spend any money (except, of course, on shipping), and 3.) Make your drawing PAISLEY themed!

EDITATTENTION PLEASE!!! I have a couple of sincere Newbz that have expressed interest, so i am going to open this swap up to them UNDER THE CONDITION that ALL NEWBIES MUST MESSAGE ME FIRST AND LET ME KNOW THAT THEY ARE SERIOUS ABOUT THIS SWAP!!! If you are a newbie and HAVE NOT messaged me by the time swapping is supposed to start then you WILL BE DELETED. Also if any swappers with a rating BELOW 4.8 join they will be DELETED, period. If anybody gets flaked on i will angel or find someone to angel for you. Ok? :)

Can it be folded to fit in an envelope when it is finished or is this supposed to be sent with no creases? Just asking because it makes a difference on shipping.

LeSillyMe 01/ 4/2011 #

Well, I would tend to say don't fold. I wouldn't recommend folding it because personally i feel that sort of hurts the piece of art aesthetically! Unless, of course, you figured out something really cool to do, like a folded piece of art that had a pop up element inside.

Of course if you made it a smallish peice, like 4x6 postcard sized, then used a greeting card envelope it would save you a lot on shipping! In the description i said at least postcard sized, so that means at least but including things that are postcard sized. Personally I prefer working a lot bigger, so usually i will plunk down a little extra shipping in order to be able to do a big piece and send it in a manila envelope. I have never had one of these Sharpie Drawing swaps cost me over $5. Though it is International, so if you are worried about that then work small.

I'm bummed that I can't join this swap. I love paisleys and can draw well :(

@LesillyMe - I'm so happy to see someone who agrees with me on not folding art. I sooo agree with you. I think it devalues the art and people should be proud of their art and treat it with respect. I'm definately in!

I am opening this up to newbies with the following criteria: A.)They need to personally message me OR B.)I know them personally in real life. If any Swap-Bot users with less than a 4.8 rating sign up THEY WILL BE DELETED before partners are assigned. Does this sound ok?

I'm down! Thank you :)

I completed mine on Saturday. I had so much fun making the paisley design. I hope you do another swap like this one.

This sounded like such a wonderful project - I couldn't wait - and started my drawing this afternoon... and just finished it this evening. I sent you a private message - and I am leaving a comment here. I am a Newbie. Thank you for opening this project up to new members. I will sign up now.
