I regularly correspond with penpals. Since letter writing keeps me busy, I don't swapbot as much as I used to--but I love to exchange holiday cards.
I am crafty! I love everything crafty and hand-made. I spend entirely too much time on the internet looking at art and craft content and tutorials. I enjoy arts-and-craft supplies and everything that goes along with living a creative life--and I love to share and swap with others who feel the same way! I make art: paint/draw/urban sketch, hand letter, hand and garment sew, papercraft, decorate and renovate, play with fibers and beads....cute, sparkly, trendy awesomeness is hard to resist and I am so happy to have an excuse to shop for it because of swapping.
I don't have cable television; only streaming services. I am not up on current network shows, instead I enjoy streaming interesting programs from start to finish. Some re-watchable favorites: Versailles, Broadchurch, Mad Men, Nurse Jackie, Bloodline. I enjoy Australian shows: Top of the Lake, Old School (TV), Wanted, Glitch. I finally got around to watching Downton Abbey. On Roku: Restoration Home, The Auction House. I love Sky Arts programs, yet they are difficult to get in the US. More than television, these days I am into podcasts: The History Chicks, Stuff You Should Know, 99% Invisible/Radiotopia, Wondery, Lonely Palette, Art Curious, Stitcher's Top 100, Decoder Ring.
I like to read, and I read a lot. I generally get most of my books from the new fiction section of my local public library. I regularly use Little Free Libraries (the swapbot for books!). Current favs: Riley Sager, Tana French, Ruth Ware, Susan Orlean's "The Library Book," and a bio about the Bronte sisters. I also like how-to books. Current topics: making crepe paper flowers, portrait drawing. I enjoy home decorating/craft magazines. I write professionally.
Current nonfiction deep dive: the Gilded Age.
I like quirky independent films and movies about people and their stories more than big Hollywood action/ superhero blockbusters. I love interesting and offbeat documentaries.
I like vintage. I enjoy wandering antique and resale shops looking for cool stuff to display or refurbish with paint and ingenuity. I like to renovate and decorate my 200 year-old home. I am bakers twine and washi tape; I am twinkle fairy lights and day old roses with a dash of yellow sports car (it's a 1977 Datsun Z).

Things that catch my eye:
Fabric and design motifs: woodland/foxes or sweet deer (not owls), arrows, feathers, peace signs, little red riding-hood, Alice's Adventure in Wonderland, 1930s reproduction feedsack
Little houses -- I am into making fairy houses: inside (dollhouse dioramas) and outside (gardens with natural and repurposed materials)
Mermaids, fairies, myth, legend, classic children's literature
Vintage china and tableware
Vintage equipment (typewriters, dial phones, cameras, airplanes (vintage travel) etc.) Roller skates, cassette tapes.
Vintage post office
1950s kitchen, vintage housewife, vintage office, mid-century modern
Nifty papergoods. Vintage advertising.
The Golden Age of Ornamental Penmanship/American Penmanship
I prefer modern quilting to traditional.
I am a sucker for anything in cute packaging.
Some other things about me:
I have an awesome, quirky studio space in my home. I own an Ashford Traditional spinning wheel, but I can't spin well; I can weave, but I don't own a loom. I know how to knit and crochet, I just don't do it enough. I own an embarrassing number of sewing machines (vintage and new). I love ALL vintage sewing stuff (notions, buttons, equipment, patterns, literature, advertising, furniture). I want to restore a treadle sewing machine to working order. (I have two in pieces in my barn; just not sure how to put them back together now that I took them apart in a fugue of can-do energy.) I love fashion but don't dress as nice as I should. I love to research/sew historical costumes.
I have a small sour cherry orchard in my back yard (apples and peaches too, but I like the cherries the most). Next spring, I have challenged myself to do more with my garden design and upkeep. I have been watching gardening documentaries lately, like the history of french gardens.
I own 2 VWs that we use/drive regularly: an orange/brown Westfalia Camper and a tintop wasserboxer. I love anything and everything VW Bus! Peace, love and all that!
I like big city and rural country equally. I'm into the idea of zakka. I love museums and libraries. When doable, I like to travel by train. I love antique carousels. (If they weren't millions of dollars I'd have one in my back yard.) I enjoy metal detecting. Haven't found anything of value, but I love the hunt!
I love to design party themes and gift bags. PENNANTS! I appreciate nice smelling candles, soap, hand creams and balms. I love to hang out in a coffeeshop to write, hand sew, sketch, read or practice my hand-lettering.
On my to-do list: 1,000 paper cranes
Favorite tea: Teeccino Dandelion Turmeric
Singing karaoke is a hoot! Friday night at-home dance party!!! If music was a cup of coffee it would be microhouse/minimal techno.
Painted rocks. UV coatings/decorative spray finishes....if it sits still, I may spray on a sheen!
Polymer Clay (kawaii charms)
I am a sky watcher, beautiful clouds thrill me. Rainbows, my favorite color is all of them.
Even more recently, I have gone crazy for urban sketching. I am drawing and painting obsessed. I am taking classes, buying/researching supplies, and visiting art museums. If I could chuck it all, I would and go to art school.
POSTCARDS: I love letterpress, vintage/vintage inspired, cool images. I love seeing all the different stamps and your messages. Ship naked or in an envelope, either way is fine. (I postcross. I know some folks on swapbot don't like the postcrossing system, but I enjoy it. I have lost very few postcards and it is just easy-breezy and always nonjudgmental. To me, it is not really swapping, more of a pay it forward kind of thing.) I penpal. I HATE facebook. 2019 update: I very much dislike the current negative political climate and "outrage culture." I long for a time when people remember to be considerate to one another and strive to help others using kindness and calm rather than today's constant condemnation through sarcastic barbs and mean-spirited "humor" (...stepping off soapbox now :) 2020: Ditto. I am even more anti-Facebook/social media than last year; even more tired of the self-serving photoshopped chatter. Influencing as a career? How is that even a thing?
Subscriptions: I stopped Birchbox and Allure. I have a stockpile of beauty samples I need to get through. I have Creativebug and Craftsy for inspiration. I want the Lia Griffith subscription, but I don't want to spend the money. I just canceled an online yoga on-demand subscription that I never remembered to watch. Whoops!
Question: Should I buy a circut machine? Would I use it? Which model is best? Does it make crafting better or is learning how to use it and cost of ownership a drag?
2020 Craft Resolutions: 1. Make ATCs. [December: soooooo, I blew that deadline. 2021, I'm looking at you--let's start fresh together on Jan 1!] 2. Renovate craft area. [December: room done. Problem, the room looks too good to mess up!]
I LOVE pathtags!! Love all geocache swag!! To collect and drop. I can get yours out in the wild in my area, if you PM me.
I will gladly arrange a one-to-one swap, just contact me if interested. I penpal.
Sorry, I don't scrapbook or use a planner. Not against either, they just don't suit my talents. I don't follow sports or enjoy fad emojis.
