Favorite Crafts

I am crafty! I love everything crafty and hand-made. I spend entirely too much time on the internet looking at craft blogs. I enjoy craft supplies and everything that goes along with living a creative life--and I can't wait to share and swap with others who feel the same way! I sew, papercraft, play with fibers and beads....cute, sparkly, trendy awesomeness is hard to resist and I am so happy to have an excuse to shop for it now that I am swapping.

Favorite Television

I don't watch regular television; only netflix, hulu or amazon prime. I am not up on current network shows or reality tv, but I love to stream interesting programs from start to finish. Some favorites: Versailles (Oh! The clothes!!), Nurse Jackie, Mad Men, Friday Night Lights (TV), Bloodline, Top of the Lake, Old School (TV), Wanted, Glitch, The Handmaid's Tale. More than television, these days I am into podcasts: This American Life, Studio 360, Stuff You Should Know, 99% Invisible/Radiotopia, Stitcher's Top 100.

Favorite Books

I like to read, and I read a lot. I generally get most of my books from the new fiction section of my local public library. I also like how-to books. I enjoy home decorating/craft magazines. I write professionally.

Favorite Movies

I like quirky independent films and movies about people and their stories more than big Hollywood action/superhero blockbusters. I love interesting and offbeat documentaries.

About Me

I like vintage. I enjoy wandering antique and resale shops looking for cool stuff to display or refurbish with paint and ingenuity. I like to renovate and decorate my 200 year-old home. I am bakers twine and washi tape; I am twinkle fairy lights and day old roses with a dash of yellow sports car (it's a 1977 Datsun Z) and My Little Pony!

Things I like to create with:

--FIBER--

Twill tape labels

Fabric (cotton, linen, kitsch/retro prints imported from Japan, Liberty)

Glass-headed sewing pins

French Bohin sewing needles or Tulip from Japan

Ribbon, trims, lace, bias tape

100% wool felt, wool felt balls

Repurposed buttons

Wooden spools

Small embroidery scissors

Colored sewing thread (Aurifil), floss

Tiny embroidery hoops

Pellon products

--PAPER--

  • Decorative papers, book pages, old text, classic ads/images

  • Ephemera, vintage/found images and items for collage and ATCs

  • Postage stamps, old or new/canceled or unused

  • Stationery sheets, writing sets

Spencerian, Nikko G nibs (pointed pen, straight or oblique)

Adult coloring pages

Stickers (scrapbook quality)

Fine point sharpies/markers (pens: all colors)

Fabric tape, washi tape samples

Mason jars

Things that catch my eye:

Fabric and design motifs: woodland/foxes or sweet deer (not owls), arrows, feathers, peace signs, little red riding-hood, Alice's Adventure in Wonderland, 1930s reproduction feedsack

Little houses -- I am into making fairy houses: inside (dollhouse dioramas) and outside (gardens with natural and repurposed materials)

Mermaids, fairies, myth, legend, classic children's literature

Marie Antoinette

Vintage china and tableware

Vintage equipment (typewriters, dial phones, cameras, airplanes (vintage travel) etc.)

1950s kitchen

Vintage camping

Nifty papergoods

I prefer modern quilting to traditional.

I am a sucker for anything in cute packaging.

I have the romantic notion to try plein air painting. It has been on my mind for a few years. Last summer the wildflowers along the side of the roads, where I live, were so lush and artistically inspirational! This summer I am going to attempt it--maybe, I think....I may not have the talent, or the knowledge, but it is something I really want to give a whack at!

Some other things about me:

I have an awesome, quirky studio space in my home. I own an Ashford Traditional spinning wheel, but I can't spin yet; I can weave, but I don't own a loom. I know how to knit and crochet, I just don't do it enough. I own an embarrassing number of sewing machines (vintage and new). I love ALL vintage sewing stuff (notions, buttons, equipment, patterns, literature, advertising, furniture). I want to restore a treadle sewing machine to working order. (I have two in pieces in my barn; just not sure how to put them back together now that I took them apart in a fugue of can-do energy.) I love fashion but don't dress as nice as I should. I love to research/sew historical costumes. I have a small sour cherry orchard in my back yard (apples too, but I like the cherries more). I have an orange/brown VW bus (Westfalia Camper van). I like big city and rural country equally. I'm into the idea of zakka. I love museums and libraries. When doable, I like to travel by train. I love antique carousels. (If they weren't millions of dollars I'd have one in my back yard.) I love to design party themes and gift bags. PENNANTS! I appreciate nice smelling candles, soap, hand creams and balms. I love to hang out in a coffeeshop to write, hand sew, read or practice my hand-lettering. Lately, I have gotten into spray paint, uv coatings, decorative finishes....if it sits still, I may spray on a sheen!

POSTCARDS: I love letterpress, vintage/vintage inspired, cool images. I love seeing all the different stamps and your messages. If something is too wonderful to ship naked, I have no issues with an envelope. (I postcross. I know some folks on swapbot don't like the postcrossing system, but I enjoy it. I have lost very few postcards and it is just easy-breezy and always nonjudgmental. To me, it is not really swapping, more of a pay it forward kind of thing.)

Subscription Boxes: I get Birchbox and Allure.

I LOVE pathtags!! Love all GC swag!! To collect and drop. I can get yours out in the wild in my area, if you PM me.

In specific:

I will gladly arrange a one-to-one swap, just contact me if interested. I penpal.

Please, if it's not a bother: No sports stuff; No teaching stuff; No mustache stuff.

THANK YOU!!

Comment: Thank you Amy, that was a lovely letter, You do not need to apologise for your handwriting at all - it was very easy to read. My hand writing is not a particular style and I just enjoy writing and inks and paper so I'm not a purist in any way. Thank you

Comment: Hey there! Thanks for the great read!! It was so fun to read your lively explanation and I agreed with so many things that you said. It was also fun learning the reasons why YOU liked the book. Anne of Green Gables is a classic. You can't go wrong with that!

Comment: Thank you so much for the darling card! We had our "once every 10 years, half inch of snow" a week ago. Now they are saying possible snow flurries for Christmas. No way! This is south Texas! Things like twice in one year does not happen here! LOL! Merry Christmas! Hugs, Diane
