Hello! My name is Alisha. I am the person who still sends Christmas cards, writes letters and loves to send postcards! I am married and have two children. I have a teenage son still at home and a daughter who is out on her own. I work in special education, grades K-5, in a small school district. I also have three black cats that I love dearly. I have recently been gifted with a Pomeranian puppy. It was unexpected and I am learning how puppy parenting is supposed to work..her name is Marlowe and she is 12 weeks old. We are a family who loves to travel and I cannot imagine my life without the ability to visit new places! I have a garden that I enjoy working in, but I don't seem very good at getting the vegetables to grow!!
If it is live and in concert I can listen to anything! If it is playing in my car or on my phone it's usually classic country ( Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson ) the stuff I grew up with, 80's pop..also music I grew up listening to, the hits of today ( esp, if my son is i the car), or rock/metal because sometimes you just need to listen to that kind of music!
Reading is more than a hobby to me, its a passion. I am never without a book. I have a room devoted to my books with a bed in the center (where else would I sleep but in the midst of all my wonderful books)! I am a natural speed reader so it is nothing for me to ready 3 or 4 novels a week. It would seem that I would get nothing else done wouldn't it? I always find time for life!! As far as favorites, I love them all! I am a genre reader, I stick to mostly books that have a romance in them. It can be a paranormal, science-fiction, thriller, horror etc. as long as there is also a romance I am content. However, I do not like historical romance at all!! Just can't get into them, I don't even try anymore. I have so many favorite authors that I wouldn't want to try to list them all, but i'm always open to add a new author to my list!!
I don't make it to the theater that often! Maybe 2 or 3 times a year. My favorite movies are still Labyrinth and Never Ending Story. Although I did enjoy Deadpool.
Just like with the movies, I don't watch much TV. I tend to watch what the family is watching..my husband loves shows like Walking Dead, Grimm, Sleepy Hollow, and Archer. My son likes military or war shows like Band of Brothers and Pacific. If they are watching something I sometimes will watch along, but usually not.
I have a few TV shows I have enjoyed over the years: House, The Mentalist, Criminal Minds, CSI, Bones. But, the only two I watched through til the end was House ( my favorite tv show of all time ) and The Mentalist ( 2nd favorite ) My one guilty pleasure is Dancing with The Stars. I try not to miss an episode.
I am not the most artistic/crafty person sadly.
I have just started to crochet and am having the most fun learning and making new projects!
I am wanting to learn to cross stitch, but I haven't started to learn yet.
I scrap booked for years and although I cherish my completed albums I don't think I want to take that on again..but, I would like to smash book or make travel journals. I am amazed at what other people's junk journals and smash books look like and I want to be able to do that.
I have recently started bullet journaling. I am a complete newbie!! But, I'm loving it.
I make photo books and I love it, my friends are jealous at how organized I am (I don't consider this a craft, but since I don't have many other abilities).
I was a photographer for a bit, a paid amateur is what I will call myself. I got pretty artistic when I would create scenes for the shoot but after a few weddings I couldn't handle the stress and quit altogether. I should have stayed an unpaid happy amateur!! My camera would be out more
When my family and I travel we always hit a local market or art fair because I want to take something home with me that a local artist made with their hands! Where we are depends on what that is.
These are some things that I especially like!
-post it notes ( of any kind, it's kind of an obsession)
-fine tip pens
-recipes for all natural "clean" eating
-bags (shopping bags, tote bags, etc)
-all shades of blues and greens
-chocolate brown and black
-pottery bowls and cups
-journals: handmade, bullet, smash books etc
-stickers (but not teacher reward stickers)
-video games ( I don't play them but the rest of my family is obsessed)
-fine tip sharpie markers
These are the things I can do without!
