Updates and AFK

June 17, 2018

I will be away from my mailbox and with limited access to the internet from June the 20th to the 28th. I only have one outstanding swap that I will mail out tomorrow. I will rate and check my ratings as soon as I get back. Happy Summer everyone!

About Me

Quote for 2018: "Make Something Everyday!"

I am a maker with a vulnerability to boredom. I have to try to make and do different things all the time. Rearrange the furniture, try a new type of cuisine, learn a new skill - I just need to mix it up.

I am an advocate for making, creating and doing in any form. This makes me sound prolific and energetic but I am not as productive as I would like :)

I live in British Columbia, on a shared property, with an orange marmalade cat and my darling husband.

I work in a small, public library. Despite what people think, working in a library is about helping people and not so much about reading and books. I spend a lot of time teaching people how to use computers and making sure that people can find what they want.

When I can't sleep at night, I watch YouTube videos about how to build things or different art techniques.

I am very happy to have found this site! It seems like a perfect match. I hope to enjoy swapping as much as I think I will and that others will enjoy swapping with me.

I still have the sticker collection I started when I was in elementary school.

Based on my profile, I guess I like making lists :)

In the Garden and the Kitchen

The property I share sports two cherry trees, three apple trees, a plum tree and a pear tree. Fruit bushes include raspberry, gooseberry and red currant. Strawberries and blueberries also have their place. (Two grape vines have yet to produce fruit but they will.) I really like putting food by (salsa is my favourite preserve to make) and plan to expand my efforts from juicing, drying and canning to freezer preservation and pressure canning.

As far as meals, I like experimenting with flavours and do not stick to a recipe for long.

I have no discernible sweet tooth.

Creative Favourites

Creative things I have tried and continue to enjoy ~ painting (acrylic) ~ sewing ~ canning and preserving food ~ papercrafting ~ decoupaging ~ photography ~ drawing

Creative things I hope to try again or do for the first time this year ~ dancing ~ dying fabric ~ edible flower gardening ~ making neon signs/art ~ jewellery making ~ ink drawing ~ cement crafting ~ art journaling

Creative things Bucket List ~ glass blowing ~ painting with resin

Creative things I've tried but likely will not do again ~ rubber stamping (I'm just not buying any more at this time.) ~ adult colouring books ~ bow making ~ stained glass

Themes for Swaps

It's hard to imagine not being pleased with swaps. I am pretty flexible as long as it meets the criteria laid out by the coordinator. That being said, if you have the option and you would like to make something yourself, go for it! I love seeing what other people do/create/make.

Here are some themes which may help if you are looking for extra inspiration!

~ sushi ~ black and white ~ stationary ~ fine tipped pens ~ bullet journal ~ fondue ~ postage stamps ~ sewing notions ~ botanical ~ nuts ~ photography ~ Brothers Grimm fairy tales or other folk tales ~

Again if what you are sending meets the criteria of the swap, I will be happy.

Unless I randomly join a food swap, please do not send me any food items, even tea.

Some Favorite Media

I tend to the fantastical: "The Fall" directed by Tarsem Singh (2006) and "Pan's Labyrinth" directed by Guillermo del Toro (2006) are two of my favorites.

I read "What is Left the Daughter" by Howard Norman annually.

I tend to like the darker series. Walking Dead ~ Westworld ~ Ozark ~

Changes daily.

Guilty Things

Whether the guilt is justified or not.

~ lining my baking and roasting trays with aluminum foil so I don't have to scrub ~ needing silence and solitude ~ watching too much TV ~ drinking too much coffee ~ my instantpot ~ not doing yoga or really anything physical in the winter

Comment: Received your PC today, and I will forward it on and it will be to you 🤣🤣. Lots of room on it for more stamps. I've had a couple times were the card that I have an a partner I receive it the same person, so I send it back to the coordinator and coordinator give me another name. Want to thank you for the great post to stamp that you put on the envelope, I've been waiting for one of these and it has finally arrived. Hope your weather is treating you as good as it's been treating us in PG.
Response: Thanks for the tips! It seems like a pretty simple swap but there are always moments. I'm glad you enjoyed the stamp on the envelope too. Weather = daily downpours. It is what it is. Coastal weather, what can you do?
Comment: amazing I love them, thank you
Response: I'm glad you are enjoying them; they were fun to make!
Comment: Thank so very much for all the postage stamps I love the foreign ones and there's a couple of Canadian ones that I don't remember ever seeing the mental health and the one with the present on it. Once again thank you.
Response: I'm glad my collection could provide you with a few gems. Happy swapping!

Comment: Great way of thinking for hearts! Have a great day/night.
Response: Thank you. I appreciated this swap. It was useful information for a newbie. Cheers!
Comment: Loved your zine! Enjoyed reading the mustard list. The crossword was so clever. Thanks for the die cuts, too. Love all of it! Thank you.
Response: First, I made a list of things to make lists of... I'm glad you enjoyed it! (I think those die-cuts are actually stickers.)
Comment: I really enjoyed this zine. You chose a really interesting selection of lists! I also really love the fact that you made use of the reverse side of the zine to include a crossword. Brilliant! Thank you so much <3
Response: I'm glad you enjoyed it! My friend recently made a mini-zine with a crossword and I thought it was an idea worth repeating. It was a fun zine topic.
Comment: Thank you! I loved your creative zine, especially the list of reasons to make lists!
Response: It was a really fun project - my first ever zine! I'm glad you appreciated it.

Comment: Allison.. thank you for the cute Moose card. I love the fact that he's a knowledgeable Moose and goes to the library! I will keep him safe until the next swap. I cannot believe how long that took to get here! Geez! Well, it's here, and will be traveling soon. :-) Thank you for the shower of ladybugs.. they are soooo cute (and sparkly!) !!!
Response: I'm glad he finally made it to you! I was concerned about his fate; I sent him off thinking he would be traveling the world. Glad he turned up and happy you are enjoying the ladybugs!
Comment: You picked what sound like really good books, and I love history. I have a number of historical fiction books. And thank you for that very nice bookmark ♥ The envelope came to me open but I think everything was in there..your note, the bookmark and the book list titles. You did a great job for being new to swap bot!
Response: Yikes! I don't know why the envelope would be open but it does sound like everything mad it to you. I hope you do enjoy one or two titles I recommended.
Comment: Thank you for the awesome bookmark and the great recommendations! Other than The Night Circus I haven’t heard of any of them, so I will definitely have to check them out! (The Night Circus was amazing, and I’m kicking myself for not including it in my recommends!)
Response: I hope you enjoy a few of the titles I recommended. I don't have a preferred genre myself but enjoy good story telling and well developed characters. (The Night Circus made both my recommended lists - it is amazing!)

Comment: Thank you for the recipes! I actually own Oh She Glows so I've made the All-Purpose Cheese Sauce before. She is one of my favourite cookbook authors. I look forward to trying to veganizing the other recipes you sent. If you ever want some tips to veganize things or recipes send me a message. :)
Response: LOL! I should have guessed you would have at least one of her books - she's very popular! My newest find is "Power Plates". I can't vouch for any recipes yet but they look delicious. Thank you for your offer regarding veganizing - you very well may hear from me!
