About Me

ATTENTION::To the three of you I still owe a swap: pm me your address and I'll get it right out to you. I can't send your packages without your addresses; I've tried contacting you and that's pretty much all I can do.

I'm game for private swaps if anyone else is interested. :] I'm 21 and a fine arts major in college. According to Facebook, I will probably one day be living in a box. But if I become a starving artist, at least I'll have fun while I starve! I live out in the middle of nowhere in Ohio. I don't really know what I want to be when I "grow up", maybe an art teacher or something. I play acoustic guitar, collect Chuck Norris jokes..I'm trying to teach myself shorthand. I'm a book nerd (once I read 380-some novels in a year--my favorites are classics but I read all kinds of things) and I collect Chuck Norris jokes. I love all things Elvis. If you send me something Elvis, I will love you forever!

I am attempting to switch over to something between a vegetarian and a vegan. I'm becoming the kind of person I want to be. I'm spiritual but not religious, and learning how to live by Christ's teachings. I want to be a peacemaker, a builder of bridges, and I want to stand up for people who need it. I prefer to either make things myself or support fair trade markets, small businesses and artists instead of handing money to major corporations and name brands. My parents call me a hippie/beatnik/flower child/bohemian and I'm regularly informed I was born in the wrong decade. I want to learn a ton of languages. I'm a feminist, quirkyalone, ace, and a pro-life/pro-choice Democrat, and Etsy makes the world go round...

Favorite Music

I love vinyl! But cds are also much appreciated ;) I'm also building a nice little collection of 70s/80s music on cassette tape for when I'm driving around--my car is ancient and only has a tape player. Here are some examples (not at all a list of limitations!) of music I like...

NUMBER ONE FAVORITE EVER: Elvis Presley

80S: Toto, Richard Marx, Tears for Fears, Michael Jackson, Rick Astley, Madonna, Blondie, Pat Benatar, Go West, Wham!, George Michael, Cutting Crew, Huey Lewis & the News, Eurythmics, Bananarama, Kim Wilde

BOY BANDS: the Osmonds, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, Dreamstreet, O-Town, etc

CHRISTIAN: I'm picky about the Christian music I'll listen to. I shy away from a lot of it. What I tend to like is the Tooth&Nail-ish stuff (Ivoryline, the Classic Crime, RunKidRun, Dead Poetic)...the imaginative/dreamy/poetic stuff (Sixpence None the Richer, Leigh Nash, Mae, Adie)...and a few other select artists: Switchfoot, Superchic[k], David Crowder*Band, Bebo Norman, Todd Agnew, and Derek Webb

CLASSIC: Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Shore, Doris Day..then there's Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jr, etc

CLASSICAL: Especially strings..oh my gosh! And once I heard part of this classical musical version of Hansel and Gretel..I'd love a copy of that!

COUNTRY/BLUEGRASS: Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Emmylou Harris, Ralph Stanley, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Kenny Rogers

DISNEY: Yes. I particularly adore soundtracks or mixes of music from their cartoon movies. Seriously any movie. I love them all. But I also like a lot of Disney Channel-esque music (Jonas Brothers, Ashley Tisdale, B5, A*Teens)

FOLK: :) Joan Baez is my number one! Also love Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan...and so on and so on..

INDIE: Andrew Bird, Eisley, Regina Spektor, Jonatha Brooke, All Girl Summer Fun Band, Vampire Weekend, Birdmonster, Band of Horses, Cloud Cult, the Dandy Warhols, White Rabbits, Fleet Foxes, Between the Trees, the Bird and the Bee, She and Him, Zooey Deschanel, the Shins, the Black Kids, My Morning Jacket, Sufjan Stevens, Jem

JAZZ: New Orleans style...think Miles Davis, etc.

OLDIES: Dean Martin, Herman's Hermits, the Hardy Boys, Lesley Gore, Fats Domino, Jackson 5, Jim Croce, John Denver (etc, etc, etc)...anything British Invasion!

SHOWTUNES: Any and all of them. I've never met a musical I didn't like. Carousel, Good News, Oklahoma!, Wicked...

TECHNO: YES! Send me anything techno! Haha.

WORLD: This is the music I count on to pick me up no matter what. Any language, any country, I love it all. From Bob Marley to Slumdog Millionaire. I love African music, French, Italian, Latin, Greek, Turkish, Indian, Palestinian..all of it. Folk tunes or more modern music, pop, rock, whatever. It just makes me happy!

VINTAGE BUBBLEGUM POP: Yeah, like Bobby Darin, Lesley Gore, the Supremes, etc

MORE IDEAS: Mix tapes/cds are always welcome! I love music from the 20s/30s/40s/50s/60s/70s/80s/90s. Not much into current top 40, but there's always exceptions to the rule (such as Katy Perry). I love Adam Lambert. I love Negro spirituals. I love monks singing in Latin. I love old kids' records like Strawberry Shortcake, Popeye, the Pink Panther, etc. I love cds of birds singing, people laughing, rainforest sounds, etc. I love Puff the Magic Dragon. I'm working on the ultimate Obama mix cd.

Favorite Books

I absolutely love antique/used books.

SOME FAVORITES: Dracula, Pride and Prejudice, Peter Pan, Whales on Stilts!, A Great and Terrible Beauty, Fancy Nancy, Amelia Bedelia, The Robbery at the Diamond Dog Diner,

FAVE AUTHORS: Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, William Shakespeare, Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, Margaret Peterson Haddix, Katherine Paterson, Lois Lowry, MT Anderson, Daphne du Maurier, JM Barrie, Anais Nin, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Leo Tolstoy, Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Simone de Beauvoir, Virginia Woolf, Mary Wollstonecraft, Shel Silverstein, Roald Dahl

POETRY: ee cummings, Walt Whitman, Edna St. Vincent Millay, WH Auden, Emily Dickinson, Alfred Lord Tennyson, etc

BIBLES: The Poverty and Justice Bible, The Green Bible

OTHER: Alfred Hitchcock anthologies, picture books, shorthand books (the Gregg method), art/craft/photography books, foreign language books (especially language-learning/dictionaries), Gothic Lolita Bibles

Favorite Movies

MOVIES: Any and every Disney classic. Pixar movies. Alfred Hitchcock movies. Tacky B-movies. The Bad Seed, Nancy Drew, Chestnut, the Sound of Music, the Princess Diaries, the Princess Bride, Princess of Thieves, Bridge to Terabithia, Luther.

TELEVISION: Punky Brewster, Golden Girls, Pop-Eye the Sailor Man, Muppet Babies, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Denver the Last Dinosaur, Wishbone, the Last Unicorn, Gummi Bears, Full House, Cosby, Leave it to Beaver, the Andy Griffith/Lucy/Carol Burnett/Dean Martin (etc) Show, I Love Lucy, the Munsters, the Addams Family, Gilligan's Island, the Brady Bunch, I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, etc.

MORE CURRENT: Masterpiece Theatre on PBS (my FAVORITE ever). Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Antiques Roadshow. Jeopardy. Scrubs. Friends.

GUILTY PLEASURES: Random Disney Channel shows, such as Phil of the Future, Hannah Montana, Lizzie McGuire.

Favorite Crafts

Plush & softies, embroidery, altered books, collage, SLR photography, blankets, handmade cards, hair accessories and jewelry, purses and bags, clothes. Bookbinding. Folding paper cranes..in a million years, I'll have a thousand. Hahaha. Pottery/sewing/crochet/painting/beading/etc/etc/etc. I'm an art student, I love trying new media and I'm up for anything. =) I like to recraft all kinds of things (clothes, costume jewelry, paper..) I'm also a beginning shoemaker!

I'm Wishing For...

Single Girl quilt pattern http://www.dsquilts.com/fabricandpatterns.asp?PageID=83#

A typewriter. Heck, as long as I'm wishing, right?

GameBoy/GameBoy Color games

Bollywood and other foreign films, Cheetah Girls: One World, a Bollyrobics dvd, independent films, old horror movies especially Alfred Hitchcock....I can ONLY play Region 1 dvds here. And I do have a VCR still, so that works too, they just take up more room. ;)

International crafts of ALL kinds. I'm looking for either finished projects so I can see what it looks like and how it's put together, or written instructions, preferably with pictures. If you have any background history on the project I'd love that too. :) I'm working on a book--if you send me something, I'll put you on my acknowledgements page!

Saris, sari fabric, sari bags, instructions on how the heck to wear a sari..hhahah

Old camera lenses..supposedly they're easily found at garage sales but I'VE yet to run across any

CDs of birds singing! CDs of people laughing! Hahaha I have weird ideas about music I guess.

Shemagh scarves, also called keffiyehs or Palestinian scarves..like this! http://www.shoppingera.net/shemagh-keffiyeh-shmagh-or-yashmag/

Peace signs, fortune cookie fortunes, collage papers, skeleton keys

Sojourners magazine.. www.sojo.net (I also like Ms., Bitch, Yes!, The Nation, The New Yorker, environmentalist mags, etc)

Elvis Presley things

Things with my name on them [Talia]

The COMPLETE Hans Christian Andersen..I already have plenty of access to partials and "selected stories", now I'm looking for the real deal. :)

Pink fabric, black fabric..I want to make a collage-inspired Pink Panther quilt. "Fabric" can be loosely interpreted..lace, hankies, felt, ribbon..yeah. Almost any fabric is good for this: striped, polka dotted, checked, plaid, paisley, flowers, whatever. Basically what I'm NOT looking for, for this project, is fabric with like..animals or sports equipment or something on it. No pictures that would detract from the Pink Panther theme. But if you have some of THAT that you want to send, I can definitely still use it for other projects!

CDs of music from all over the world. Mixes are okay :) I love Putumayo!

Political campaign buttons, especially presidential campaigns

Old ties, fabric, beads, buttons, fishhook earrings, ribbon, yarn, art supplies of all kinds! Little plastic toys like animals or cowboys and Indians, pendants & charms

Shorthand books, books for learning other languages like vintage textbooks and insert-language-here/English dictionaries. Children's books, loose pages with illustrations of all kinds

Traditional ethnic clothing from anywhere in the world plus instructions on how to wear it if necessary ;]

Nail polish, any bright color! All mine is old and icky and needs replaced. :/

Anything, any flavor, from the Art Stuff line by Bath & Body Works, now discontinued :(

CDs by feminist bands/singers, or a mix cd of your feminist faves

A recipe box..secondhand is great! Nicks and scratches are okay--there's a good chance I'll either paint or decoupage it anyway

I've never read any of the Harry Potters (collective gasp)--they're so overdone it kind of turns me off. But a friend whose judgment I trust informs me that they should be on my to-read list, so if anyone feels like sending me some HPs, I guess I'll give 'em a whirl.

These mitten-gloves.. http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall08/PATTtatiana.html Hahahha I know it's a real longshot. I'm pretty sure someone would have to love me an awful lot, like times ten billion, to make me these! But a girl can dreammm..

I Like

Surprises =) Happy things. Freerice.com. Robots. Zhena's Gypsy Tea is AMAZINGGG. Vintage illustrations of all kinds. Mermaids. Fairies (the Tinkerbellish kind..) Big plastic jewelry. Legos. Rainbows, hearts, stars, and really bright colors. Unicorns, sea monsters, weird animals, pirates, treasure maps. Sketchbooks, paintbrushes, charcoal. Peace, mysterious abandoned buildings, castles, absurdities, old cemetaries, gumball machines. SweeTarts, trick or treating, homemade popcorn, Sanrio, Tokidoki, unusual shoes. Gummy bears (especially clear ones or chocolate-covered, haha), Nerds, sour Icebreakers, chocolate. Forests, forest animals, nature preserves, bookstores, cafes, traveling to new places, bicycles, trees, zoo animals, anything indie. Camera film of all sorts. Italian food. Toys/music/pop culture from when I was little (i.e. Rainbow Brite, Popples, Potato Head Kids), anything Disney and/or Pixar. PRI, AR, NPR, PBS. Dress patterns from the 50s and 60s. Okay, just vintage fashion, any decade, really. Poetry, art supplies (crayons/charcoal/pastels/paint/sewing notions/anything I can stick on a collage), fruit, holidays, anything cute. "Truly Me" perfume by American Girl. Hair clips. Magazines (Sojourners, Yes!, Bitch, Ms., fashion/decorating magazines, Ty Pennington's magazine). Sparkly things (diamonds, haha, glitter..) I'm rather addicted to lip gloss--non-petroleum based. Shells, starfish, mushrooms (ok, mushroom images--I don't like to eat them), magic, yarn, fabric, holidays..Saturn...constellations. Mother Earth. Animal images :)

I Dislike

Things that are really sexual in nature--I'm asexual. Things that objectify women, promote rigid gender roles and/or traditional stereotypes (romance novels, Venus/Mars kind of things, etc) or racial stereotypes. Coffee. Coconut. Fur and leather. Waking up early. Fake banana candy flavor, cherries (but as a visual I like them, so cherry patterns or whatever's okay), most rap, the color olive green. Designer labels (from Dior--but I like vintage Dior, as in Eloise--it's complicated, I know, and I apologize--and Chanel to American Eagle and Hollister). Preppy clothes. Hot dogs. Annoying alarm clocks =) Papercuts. Math. Sometimes I dislike the color gold, sometimes I like it..Broccoli. Mushrooms for food. Bad grammar/punctuation/spelling.

I Shop

Google a picture of Punky Brewster, and that's what I dress like. Or sometimes I wear classic lolita. Or sometimes "scene", haha. My "look" changes drastically, depending on my mood. I love mismatched earrings and mismatched socks. I'm generally anti-designer-label..or else I'll rip the label off and make a new one with my name on it and sew it on. I don't believe anyone should try to tell someone else what they should look like or dress like. Stores I find a lot of love-worthy outfits in include: dELiA*s, Forever 21, Hot Topic, Charlotte Russe, JC Penney, www.fredflare.com, www.80stees.com, and random thrift stores/flea markets. If it's vintage, I'm in! I also think it's hilariously fun to take a previously-existing article of clothing and recreate it into something I would actually wear. And, of course, I like to make my own dream clothes from scratch.
