About Me

So after more than a year of hearing friends gab about Swap-bot I have made a profile. I do love to craft & may have gotten to a point where I can devote time enough to that again.

(OK, so the month of March really got away from me! I have had some personal/familial/financial setbacks (car maintenance - dental work- illnesses) & am trying to catch up on some swaps. I REALLY appreciate your patience. I like to send quality art & take my time, if you are expecting a swap from me I have probably messaged you to explain that it may be a little late. I promise not to flake - they will be sent & I am not signing up for any new swaps till all my current ones are complete)

I am a wanna be:

I wanna be: an artist, a good person, someone who dances while sober, wickedly clever, fun, beautiful, musically talented, educated, kind, exciting, a philosopher, political, knowledgeable, loved, spiritual, vibrant, a world traveler, someone who knows how to: fix things, ride a horse, inspire others & get places on time.I wanna be a great hostess, dramatic, a mom someday, truthful, wise, sexy, a fantastic cook, & happy. I have mastered some of these things, dabbled in many, & some of them may elude me always but wanting to be these things, successful or not, gives you an idea of who I am for me.

"As you think, you travel, and as you love, you attract. You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you." -- James Lane Allen

Favorite Crafts

I love pretty much all crafts! I have the most experience with: drawing, painting, photography, acting, collage, henna, & some sculpting, I also love: beading, print making, stamping, calligraphy/fonts, stencils/screen prints, puppets, ceramics, paper making, book arts, sewing, doll making, jewelery making, etc & would love to try/learn/get better at: furniture design, woodworking, glass blowing, tree sculpting (arbor smithing), gardening/landscaping in general, bas relief tiles, art restoration, perfumery & millinery

Favorite Books

I tend to read weird anthropology & cultural/ human science books for fun (I think it's my not fully explored desire to go back to college) as well as light fantasy/fiction. I'm one of those people who can be in the middle of 3 or 4 books at once & I think this is totally normal, or at least as normal (& far less annoying to those around me) as channel surfing. I also occasionally like erotica but I do not read the trashy romance books with the likes of Fabio & women in ripped bodices etc on the covers. Some noteworthy books are: Slaying the Mermaid..., The Red Tent, The Time Traveler's Wife, Of Love and Other Demons, Like Water for Chocolate, Waiting for Godot, The Other Woman..., Ahab's Wife, The Ground Beneath Her Feet, the works of Anais Nin & any I've found by Charles deLint, I.Allende, B. Kingsolver , F. McCourt, or N. Gaimen. I have also been known to like books by: Joanne Harris, Sarah Addelson, Sue Monk Kidd, Phillipa Gregory, Laurel K Hamilton & so many others...

Lately I am especially into blues/greens. My general tastes run to muted earthy tones (olive greens/cadet blues) black and shades of gray but lately (maybe because I am flirting with them as my wedding colors) I am really into Navy, Peacock, & Lime. I also love purples & deep, claret reds. I prefer silver to gold & adore copper.

I do not generally care for pink...the only exceptions I can think of are the first lovely pink blooms of spring here in the mountains: the redbuds, the pink dogwoods & "tulip" Jane Magnolias.

Favorite Movies

My favorite movies tend to be set in another time/place ...I like period dramas/comedies & fantasy... I'm having a hard time thinking of them now... Much Ado About Nothing, Labyrinth, Big Fish, Howard's End, Chocolat, Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil, Oscar & Lucinda, Tea with Mussolini, Braveheart, Stardust, The Aviator, The Last King of Scotland, Waking Ned Divine, Gross Point Blank, Big Night, The Lord of the Rings Movies, Miller's Crossing, Frida, Edward Scissorhands, Chasing Amy, Atonement, The Princess Bride, Stealing Beauty, Pan's Labyrinth, Benny & Joon, The Dead Poet's Society & of course anything Jim Henson.

Favorite Music

Tori Amos, The Cure, The Pogues, Ani Di Franco, This Mortal Coil, Portishead, Rasputina, Sting, U2, Erin McKeown, Madeline Peyroux, Led Zepplin, Teegan & Sara, Dresden Dolls, the Beastie Boys, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Beck, The Black Crowes, They Might be Giants, David Byrne, Bonnie Raitt, The Empty Hats, The Rolling Stones, Depeche Mode, Enya, Suzanne Vega, David Bowie, Tom Waits, Django Reinhardt & local "hot club" artists: One Leg Up & the Spaceheaters, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana...

Comment: Thank you for finally sending. But I cannot give you a 5 because I had to wait over 2 months to receive.
Response: Your postcards may be unforgivably late but they will arrive. I will make good on every swap I signed up for & have not signed up for anything new in the last month since I started getting in over my head.

Comment: AMAZING!! I love the snake Goddess you sent for me. She's going on the, you guessed it, Snake Altar. I love snakes as they are my totem and a sacred animal to me along with most other reptiles, and arachnids. This goddess is gorgeous. I love her so much. I also love that you put beads on her so that she rattles when I shake her and reminds me of a rattle snake! I LOVE HER SO MUCH! Your extras were PERFECT. I'm so looking forward to a mini quilting project with all the fabrics you sent and the paper is perfect weight and shimmer for some lovely layered paper beads and jewelry. Thank you for understanding about my myriad of allergies and not sending food :) Thank you again. This swap is beyond what I expected. Thank you!! Kittenish.
Response: I am ever so glad you like her. I think she is the swap I am most proud of so far. I really appreciate your patience & giving me time enough to finish her as I intended (rather than just rushing & skipping the beads for instance).
Comment: WOW! First, the ATC is fabulous, I LOVE it. You are so talented. You spoiled me with the chocolate and the GRAY sharpie I have yet to have found, thank you, thank you! The topping on all this is that you included a gift for Sage and Trent. You deserve 1000 Hearts for being such a very special partner. Blessings, Mona
Response: Thank you, you're sweet to leave me such a nice comment. The Gray sharpie was kinda tricky, it was part of a "Cafe'" colors limited edition set, but once I spied it I knew I had to get it - especially after the private message you sent me.

Comment: Thank you for a lovely package - it brightened up my mail box and my day! Great job on your first ATC! Loved your handmade "flower decorated" ATC envelope, and the nicely decorated envelope you sent everything in. Thank you also for the extras too - ATC envie template, matchbox ready for me to decorate & assemble, vintage images, stickers, & tea (which looks delicious!), and for the Mary Oliver poem. As I said above - thank you for making my day!
Response: I'm ever so glad you liked it! Thanks for the kind rating.
Comment: Thanks for the bookmark and all the extras!

Comment: oh i will forever love you for how you packed my swap! Charlie & The Chocolate Factory theme! how brilliant. when i was a kid i had this "secret" dream, that one day i would find one of the WIlly Wonka's Golden Tickets and could go to the amazing Chocolate Factory. and now i feel like that actually happened :D minus the going to the factory part, but still. all the chocolates were really good! twix is something we have here too, but i always enjoy it, plus the wrapping had a bit different design which i found interesting(oh the things i find interesting.. :D). and martha stewart quotes/tips/what ever inside those doves where really neat. and the chocolate you picked for me was just perfect. yeah, this is one long rate. but again, i will forever love you. and now i'm starting to sound creepy..
Response: I'm so glad it finally arrived & that you like it! I was so close to sending you a message yesterday asking if you'd gotten your swap yet but I thought I'd give it one more day so I didn't seem obsessive! I don't think you sound creepy at all- it's nice to have one's efforts appreciated. Thanks for the great rating!
Comment: Thanks for sharing your story. And congratulations on the engagement!!
Response: Thanks!

Comment: Cool postcard, Susan Alena! We love Asheville (at least from a visitor's perspective, and probably would also love it from a resident's perspective too!). When we were there, there was a freak snowstorm that dumped 8 inches in a morning/afternoon. Sounds like you may be snowy now too! Have a great weekend! Jolene
Response: So glad you like it. Yes Asheville is lovely (though unusually snowy this year). Best wishes & Happy Valentine's day!
