Hello Elaine, I hope that you and your family had a wonderful Chrismas and may you all have a wonderful New Year.
And my Soul shall be joyful in the Lord... Psalm 35:9
May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit... Romans 15:3
I love both those verses . I have found that in my life and it took way too long to figure out that when I let God be God and stopped trying so hard to be happy and instead just go to him, share with him my troubles and then rest in him, that I began to truly feel joy in my life. It did not come overnight.
He taught me to slow down, to take smaller steps , to breathe more, to trust in the process when my children were young and medically fragile (my twins were born very premature 17 years ago) , and later to do it again for my own health, which took trust to a different level.
He teaches me how to use the gifts he has given me, the fruits of the spirit, When I begin to take for granted and grow too comfortable, he teaches me how to move into my comfort zone.
When I cry and think I reached my breaking point he whispers in my ear and reminds me that I am His and that he has my hand, he promises me that He won't let go. All of these things and much more than words can ever express has led me to feel joy in my life.
He is leading me to see the invisible false fortress around me.
I now can feel joy so much more than I ever thought possible but it is still just a tiny sliver of what waits for me when I go Home and live with Him.

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
Patience? We have to wait in life, the question is what do we do while we wait? Do we dwell on how long it is taking, do we focus on something unrelated (read while waiting in line), or do we spend time in prayer renewing our strength. We are spinning our wheels, letting life runaway with us. When we stop and refocus on God, He helps us off the Merry-Go-Round and we are at peace. Spending time with God prepares us for the battles of life; we are not equipped to fight alone. We must wait for God's reinforcements. Instead of questioning God I should be like the father who spoke to Jesus, Lord I believe, help thou my unbelief ( Mark 9:24)
There are so many negative things on TV & everywhere you turn,.. esp on this election day!
