Description:

I've been looking for a pen pal, but joining pen pal swaps seems sort of hit or miss, you know? So, I thought I'd put together a database of people who are looking for pen pals, and then have a link so those who have completed the form can "shop" for a pen pal.

This is the beta version - I'm taking ideas for other compatibility questions to ask potential pen pals.

The theory is that you will sign up for the swap and be given the link to fill out the form. After you've completed the form, you will receive the link to view all of the responses to the form. Then you can choose a possibly compatible pen pal, look them up on swap-bot and read their swap-bot profile. Iif you want to be pen pals with them, message them through swap-bot to invite them to become your pen pal. They may accept, or decline your invitation for any reason. There will NOT be any contact info in the database, for everyone's safety.

In this beta version, please leave a comment below if you have suggestions for new or altered questions. Keep in mind, the way to connect with the others who respond is through swap-bot. Since their swap-bot profile already exists, the pen pal questionnaire does not need a lot of specific personal information questions. I'm looking for questions to ask that are specific to helping create a meaningful and mutually satisfying pen pal relationship (as far as that is possible, of course). After this beta swap, I'll create the final version of the questionnaire, and invite everyone to participate again in the final version. Of course, you are welcome to use what will be created now to initiate a pen pal relationship, if you see someone you want to connect with.

The actual swap is set for a type 1, with one partner. Once this swap is closed, all you need to do is go to the database of respondents and see if your partner filled out the form. If they did, please rate them a 5. Please note, it is not the intention of this swap to assign you a pen pal, although you are welcome to write a letter or email to your partner if you want to, it is NOT required and you won't be rated on that. You will be rated on whether or not you completed the beta version of the questionnaire.

Questions? Ask away in the comments. I've never seen a swap quite like this, so if you know of something I'm missing or want to offer constructive criticism, I'm open. Thanks for playing!

Great idea! :-)

NaitomeaMinx 04/ 8/2018 #

@redyellownow Oops! What do we do if we accidentally added ourselves twice? I mean my info is the same but now I weirdly appear twice on the list and can't seem to delete the second "me".

Valkyrien 04/10/2018 #

English isn't my first language, so what does "Geographic region city/state/country" mean? :)

Valkyrien 04/10/2018 #

Never mind x]

ArtsyEm 04/10/2018 #

Hmm is there a way to view the data without answering the questions again? The link takes me to the form to fill it out, but I already did that part. Thanks!

You did an amazing job on the spreadsheet. Please know that your time is greatly appreciated! I look forward to finding new friends to write to.

How about level of education and job?

MarHelene 04/16/2018 #

I was assigned a pen-pal just now. I thought that wasn't going to be done?

farangelinan 04/16/2018 #

@MarHelene this is on the swap description :)

Once this swap is closed, all you need to do is go to the database of respondents and see if your partner filled out the form. If they did, please rate them a 5. Thanks for this, looks like it was a lot of hard work.

Beckysheldon38 04/17/2018 #

I am confused, how do i get into the db?

ScrapHappyGabi 04/21/2018 #

The person who was supposed to rate me (Kate-Lynn Sawchuk ( kcu1996 ) has not logged in since APRIL 4th - I dont think she will be returning or rating any time soon...

I DID, HOWEVER, input my information - even before the swap partners were assigned. I am covering my own butt as I do not want to be labeled poorly for not being rated for the swap.

Lucine 04/29/2018 #

The same with newbie @JadeRemington Joined swap-bot on April 7th, her last log in on swap-bot April 9th. And obviously since her last visit on swap-bot was on April 9th and partners were assigned on April 15th, she didn't fill out the form;(
