Description:

I see alot of knitting and sewing swaps on here...but I can not do those things! :( So what I am doing is starting a swap where we make a paper quilt on a postcad!!

What we do is use a regular postcard that is 4.5 x 6'' big. We will then take small pictures that are 1.5 inches square! You can use the same color pictures or different colors. You can use magazine pictures for this. You will then cover your postcard with the squares, giving it a quilted look! Your card will be 3 pictures across by 4 pictures long so a TOTAL of 12 tiny pictures for each postcard!

You will have 3 partners! 1 postcard to each partner! This is a swap you can start now because you do not have to know your partner to make them. This is a FAST turn around from end to send because you do not have to know your prtner.

You can either send it in an envelope or as if. Up to you! Just make the all the pictures are secure on the postcard!

This swap IS international!

Users with 4.7 or above welcome. Newbies, please send me a reference of sorts or wait until you have feedback before joining. This swap ends far away enough that you can wait! I know this is a low dollar swap but it still sucks to have people scam.

Have fun!

what do you mean they all have to be the same color? can they be in the same colour range? like blue, turquoise, petrolblue, cobalt blue,...?

ElizabethObviously 03/15/2007 #

no i meant you use magazine pictures with the same color items..like if you pick red..use a firetruck, apple, cherries...

WillowTree21 03/15/2007 #

I don't get it.

ElizabethObviously 03/15/2007 #

lol....okay you take a postcard....you take a magazine and cut out pictures of the same color. Make the picture 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches. Then you paste the squares on the postcard so it looks like a quilt of items. if you look on flikr you can see soemthing like it.

ElizabethObviously 03/15/2007 #

here we go...it was done by someone last year..they just used different colored papers....but items would make it more interesting

I really like the idea of a paper quilt, but I think I'd rather be able to mix colours, as I would if I were making a fabric quilt.

ElizabethObviously 03/17/2007 #

well if you would like to do that that is fine also :D

TerryF 03/17/2007 #

I am a sewer but this sounds like fun so I'm in!

TerryF 03/17/2007 #

elizabeth4510: I assume it is ok to seal the "quilt" once it's done, to protect it in the mail?

outbackgirl 03/22/2007 #

I haven't tried fabric quilting before, but done color blocking is scrapbook. Slightly different, but will be fun, for sure. I'm in. And yes, I think it will be a good idea to seal it. What do you think Elizabeth?

ElizabethObviously 03/26/2007 #

yes tassy if you like to seal it you can. i plan on probbaly covering it in tape myself. it will hold up better! i know in the postal system if a little bit of paper corner is hanging it could rip it all to heck

Nathalie 04/ 2/2007 #

you can use varnish inspray cans to seal it, work for other crafts like ATC's to. It exists in shining or mat and you can find it in craft stores

Aerochik 04/ 2/2007 #

Great idea, I can't wait to start...

moonlady 04/ 2/2007 #

Elizabeth, I'm not trying to make this more difficult so just say so if this. I have made some paper quilt greeting cards that use the shape and layouts of a real quilt. They turn out very pretty. Do you want to keep this swap with the square theme or would the other kind be ok too? Thanks for considering it. moonlady

twobluecrows 04/ 7/2007 #

Is anything good as long as it resembles a quilt top? For instance, many smaller pieces making up the blocks? Traditional quilt patterns made of appropriately colored and/or patterned papers? I've been saving security envelopes form the mail for weeks now because there are so many different colors and designs on the inner printing that it always reminds me of exotic fabrics, and I was planning on making a paper quilt--it sounds perfect for a postcard one! That pink paper one at the posted link above was fairly boring to me, no challenge at all! Cyn

moonlady 04/ 8/2007 #

twobluecrows, it sounds like you and I should be partners : ) I am the post just before yours and I too was interested in doing something a little more challenging. I have saved those envelope liners too. That could be fun : ) Do you think elizabeth could arrange that. I haven't received an answer to my inquiry. moonlady

ElizabethObviously 04/11/2007 #

i cant arrange certain parters...it is all random. I would rather keep this just the squares but if you want to you can go ahead and start a swap where you do make quilt patterns. :D that would be interesting

beckra 04/14/2007 #

Elizabeth--Thanks for this swap, and for saying that it's okay for people to send their postcards in an envelope! I've gotten some lovely handmade postcards from folks in swaps, but almost every one of them has been damaged in some way by machinery. I know that some people like the weathered/worn look, but I like that you've given people the option to protect their work with an envelope!

user7052 04/21/2007 #

Oh Elizabeth - thank you for thinking up this swap! I sat up last night and made my cards (while I was waiting for my daughter to get home), and ran them through my laminator this afternoon - only the fronts so that the backs can still be written on. They were SO much fun to make, and I'm really happy with how they turned out! I think I'm going to work on a few more if I can scrounge up some more magazines:-) Hugs!!

twobluecrows 04/21/2007 #

Moonlady, I started a Security Envelope Swap: http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/3022 it's open to anyone interested in making an ATC and a postcard from them. The only way to choose your own partners is to have a private swap, but this way is fun, too! Who knows, we may just get matched up! Cyn

gramsbuttonbox 04/24/2007 #

oh this is a fun one - thanks for hosting it - I never even knew about it, but read your comment on one of my swap pages, lol -

PLEASE please please can we incorporate some triangles at least in these?

hoping...fingers crossed... MaryB

gramsbuttonbox 04/24/2007 #

was also thinking of laminating the top of it, thinking that's a good way to protect the design... MB

gramsbuttonbox 04/27/2007 #

well, it's been a few days, and I've not gotten any answer to my question, so just went ahead and made them - and yes, there ARE some triangles in these "quilts" - whoever gets them will just to understand...

I did laminate the tops, made them seem much more sturdy - so will get them ready to mail, and all I'll have to do then is address the envies.

have a good weekend, everyone, MaryB

I love sewing on paper (much more so than I like to do traditional sewing) so I will sew mine. That should hold everything together as it travels through the mail, and I won't have to seal it.

You can always get clear envelopes to send them in also. I use them to send fabric postcards to my friends. Clearenvelopes.com is where I purchase mine. But Hobby Lobby and other craft stores have envelopes for that too.

ladydy5 04/30/2007 #

Are you sure about the postcard dimensions? I have one from the post office that measures 5 1/2 x 3 1/2". Then I do fabric postcards that our measurements on that is 4 x 6. Can I use the postoffice one that already is stamped but 5 1/2 x 3 1/2? or is just better to make our own postcards out of cardstock to comply with the size of each square as in your directions? Seems a little mathematical doesn't it?

prairieknitter01 05/ 2/2007 #

elizabeth, could we have partners? Thanks!

Nathalie 05/ 3/2007 #

To Beckra: I just love it and so glad you put it in an envelope so now I can frame it. It is so lovely puts mine to shame. I just sent mine as a postcard would go and you took that extra time and energy to see that I got this first class, thank you so much.

I'm sorry if I messed up the swap, but I didn't stick to the squares idea--I hope my partners aren't disappointed--if you'd rather have squares, I'll make you another--no problem! I sat down to make them, and just couldn't get motivated, so I was just playing with little pieces and they made themselves. I posted pictures in the Gallery slideshow of the lovely ones I have received so far from amy lyn and memmu--they are terrific! I posted pics of what I sent out, too.(there's one duplicate, I don't know how to get rid of it--can you delete it Elizabeth4510?) Cyn

twobluecrows 06/ 1/2007 #

I hope everyone will upload pictures of the cards they've received! I'd love to see all your creativity! Cyn
