About Me

I teach Latin and ancient Greek at a small college. In my leisure time I enjoy kayaking, bee-keeping, reading novels, and participating in swapbot and postcrossing.

Other things I'm especially interested in:

  • 19th century British literature

  • art history, art museums, and art postcards

  • vintage illustrations of fairies

  • word histories and other weird workings of words

There's something I enjoy about every color.

I hesitate to list any particular dislikes, but here's one: I'd prefer not to receive any images related to hunting, fishing, or eating meat.

Favorite Movies

All-time favorites are The Man Who Came to Dinner and Evil Under the Sun. Other favorites include House of Flying Daggers, I Heart Huckabees, Ushpizin, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Stranger than Fiction.

Favorite Books

For pleasure reading, I usually stick to novels. My favorite authors include Anthony Trollope, Wilkie Collins, Angela Carter, Charlotte Bronte, and Henry James. I've recently been trying to read more graphic novels--if you have a favorite, I'd welcome suggestions.

Favorite Crafts

Photography and the digital alteration of photographic images, embroidery, basic book-binding, writing and translating (I think they count as crafts), and every now and then making mosaics out of paper scraps.

About Swapping

This probably goes without saying, but please let me know if you haven't received something from me when you should have--I haven't dropped the ball so far, and I'd like a chance to re-send if something got lost in the mail.

I will rate all my partners in a timely way so that they are sure their swaps have arrived and are appreciated.

Comment: I got both your cards today - because I just got back from visiting Canada, and then working in my brother's winery. What a treat! I love both pics of the moon and of labyrinths (my sister has one in her front yard!) Thanks so much for sharing - I love how they both came out!

Comment: Thank you. The postcard with the Phillies is great. I grew up in Philly, and my grandpa smoked Phillies (cigars). The recipe actually sounds good and we already use soy milk. Hmmm. Might just have to give this one a try. HA HA. Thank you

Comment: Thank you for your very thoughtful and thought-provoking card. I actually had a hummingbird build a nest on a large windchime on my front porch. I had the extreme privilege of watching 2 sets of baby hummingbirds grow and fly away. :)

It wasn't necessary, but I received a set during the original swap, and am blessed with owning another digitally manipulated image from your yard. Birch trees are one of my favorite, I keep cut up Birch logs in my fireplace as a decoration. Thanks again,
