Description:

This is the first swap in our "Design a..." ATC series. The ATCs you will create for these swaps will all be based on a common subject template as a starting point. The template will be different for each swap in the series.

@GeorgeBee got this great "Design a..." idea from here and here.

What you will do is download the template (this month the subject is an Elephant, submitted by our lovely @Ellie1200 ), then using your hand drawn/painted skills, design your ATC around the template. You can use whatever means you like to transfer the outline of the image to your ATC. You will then take a photo of your ATC(s) and upload them to flickr and add them to the group photo pool I have created for these swaps.

Keep the size the template 2.5"x3.5" (the size it should print from the .pdf file) so that when we see them all together in the flickr photo pool, they will look coherant.

The fun is to see how many ways we all interpret the same subject with our different artistic styles! yay!

This swap will be for 2 ATCs to 1 partner. Before you mark your swap as sent, be sure to upload a photo of each of your two ATCs to the flickr pool. This is a requirement of the swap...

EDIT: ...with the following exceptions where we get the chance to help each other out if need be (since we are a group of friendly and supportive artists!):

Please note there may be cases where someone might not be able to take/upload their own pictures for whatever reason (library computer, broken camera, exceeded monthly flickr upload quota, etc). In this case, please communicate with me, @crescendo AND your "send to" partner, and we can work out a way to get your photos into the group pool. For example, your partner could photograph your ATCs for you when they receive and also upload them for you, or you can email them to me and I will upload them for you, etc. Where there's a will there's a way (and a solution)! I want everyone to be able to participate.

Swappers in good standing may apply.

I was able to make it into 2.5" x 3.2". If anyone wants me to send it to them, just shoot me a message with your email addy.

crescendo 07/27/2009 #

I changed the elephant graphic link to a .pdf file that you can download from my Windows Live Skydrive that should print at 2.5"x3.5"

alleycat 07/28/2009 #

I sure wish I could participate in this swap, but I have no way to upload the pics....:-(....and I look forward to seeing what everyone else does.

crescendo 07/28/2009 #

@alleycat I don't want to leave anyone out of the swap. We could work it out so that your partner could take the photos of your ATCs when they receive them, and upload them to flickr along with their own.

Would anyone have a problem with that if I change the requirements so that if your "receive from" partner is unable to upload photos, that you would photograph their cards for them and then upload your own pix plus pix of your partners ATCs?

Kugusch 07/29/2009 #

eeeek, I saw the talk about this beforehand and ADORED the horses we saw, and I LOVE the elephant template, but I don't have a printer.... I'll have to see if I can have my friend print these out for me.

Bananajana 07/29/2009 #

I will be glad to mail you one @Kugusch We don't want anyone to miss out on this special project. We all like and respect each other in this group we will make it work. You too, @Alleycat We will make it work.

Bananajana 07/29/2009 #

A zebra would be cool, or a parrot, and you all know I love Cats!

crescendo 07/29/2009 #

and we MUST do a goat of course!

Kugusch 07/30/2009 #

Bananajana, thanks very much, but I lucked out. I asked a friend yesterday and she brought me several printouts of it today. So NOW my only problem will be getting them uploaded. If my partner could do that, then I'd be all set....but how do we do it if the system pairs up two people who are both not able to upload?

And, just for clarification: The pdf file, on my friend's computer, had another link for a beary passport or something...don't know what that's about. For the swap we do the SAME Elephant in two different versions for our partner, right?

crescendo 07/30/2009 #

Yes, you will use the same elephant outline to make two different versions for one partner. Ignore the file for the bear passport in the same directory, that is for a different group, haha.

If the case arises where both partners cannot upload, we will need to figure something out when the time comes. One possibility is that you could find a friend who can take photos for you and then email them to me to upload. Worst case is you could always mail the ATCs to me, I will photograph and upload them and forward them on to the partner (that could take a while if international, but that would be the ultimate last case scenario, if you couldn't find anyone local to you to take photos for you and email them to me). We can find a way to make it work!

ok, I signed up, just know that we'll have to work something out.....I really don't have any way to upload anything....and my friends are just as clueless as me....you should see us trying to figure out facebook etc.....truely patheticLOL

Kyrian 08/ 5/2009 #

I just saw the horse pictures and they are so much fun! I can't wait to draw my elephants! GREAT IDEA!

Kugusch 08/ 9/2009 #

my first one's done, now I'm waiting for enlightenment on which direction to go in with the second. What a fun project!!!

Bananajana 08/14/2009 #

Can someone post a link to other swaps like this one? I would like to see the horses and any others available. Thx.

crescendo 08/15/2009 #

@Bananajana do you mean links other than the ones I put in the swap description where it says "...idea from here and here"? I don't know of any other similar swaps, but perhaps someone else does?

LMM 09/11/2009 #

OK--I've uploaded Alleycat's ATCs to flickr....let me know if I did it right!

alleycat 09/11/2009 #

how do we look to see the uploads? Will there be a way that we can see them all together?

alleycat 09/11/2009 #

ps...thank you LMM!

I have enjoyed my elephants so much I have done 9 drawings. 9 ! I love them. This is going to be a very noteworthy series of ATCs we do.

Bananajana 09/26/2009 #

The current entries are fabulous. My nine don't add up to that good. Congrats ladies, you are outdoing your selves.

Bananajana 09/26/2009 #

I posted 7 pictures but I know I am only to mail two. I just adored the elephant subject. I use sharpies and they are not works of art like the painted ones in the pool but I hope you enjoy them.

ellie1200 09/27/2009 #

Mine should head out to my partner tomorrow, but I might not get a chance back at the computer to mark them sent until who knows when. Don't wanna mark it before I actually send them, but I also don't want anyone thinking that I've mailed them late because I mark them late. :o) Haven't had a chance to scan them so pics will have to do. :-(

alleycat 09/29/2009 #

I see mine in the pool :-(

alleycat 09/29/2009 #

I don't see them I mean

LMM 10/ 1/2009 #

They are there--maybe on the second page now?
