Description:

A Round Robin Art Journal swap works like this:

You think of a topic that is near and dear to your heart, say "Dreams of Chocolate!" Next, buy/create a journal 5X7 or bigger. Decorate the cover to match your theme. The first page of your journal should introduce yourself and the journal's purpose, for instance: "I love chocolate in all it's forms. What is YOUR fave chocolate and give me a recipe to try." Then, you make the first entry in your journal as an example of what you hope to see from your partners.

After partners are assigned, make a list of your Send To partners on a sheet of paper. Tuck it into the front of your journal. Mail it to the first person on the list. The first person will make their entry and mail to the second person on the list, and so on. The last person on the list is to mail the journal back to the creator.

Each entry should be 2-4 pages long, some writing, some art, and in the above example - include a recipe. If you choose to do something like a water color painting or embellish with beads that the paper won't support, please do your art on heavy paper and adhere it in the journal. Make sense?

Once you receive a journal, you have one week to make your entry and send. I know that doesn't sound like a lot of time, but it has to be this way or we will never get our journals back!

The best part is: YOU GET YOUR JOURNAL BACK!!! I've done this type of swap before and absolutely loved reading and seeing how people responded to my journal!

This is a HUGE commitment and only dedicated swappers will be allowed to participate in this swap. It will be limited to 5 people (including myself). I know a lot of you expressed interest in doing a round robin, so this should be a really great swap! Here is what you need to do to join this swap.

  1. Make a comment below as to the possible topic/title of your journal. If you are undecided and have 2-3 things in mind, say them all.
  2. Make a comment on my profile about the swap...whatever you want to say. Hosting this swap will take a lot of effort! I freely admit that this is simply a hoop-jumping exercise to let me know you are willing to do what it takes to be in this swap :)
  3. Click join.

...1 Send on time...after partners are assigned, I will start a thread to follow the journals. When it is time to send to the next person, I will PM everyone as well as send an e-mail. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to keep them moving so that no one gets bogged down with 2 or 3 journals at one time.

...2. If you flake, you will not like me.

...3. Please rate. This swap takes time to complete. The only way you can rate anyone is when you receive your journal back. This swap is USA ONLY to help keep them moving. If anyone would like to host an international version, please do so.
Again, I'll be in contact with everyone, following the journals on their journey...doing my best to make sure they make it home, safe and sound.

My ideas are favorite songs/song lyrics/illustrating song lyrics OR rubber stamping. I'm thinking the former.

My journal is one that I have already started and circulated a couple times. It is titled "Somewhere In Time" and there are pics of it on my flickr. The gist of it is: If you could go back in time, a week, a year, a decade or a hundred years, what time would you go to, where would you be, who would you want to spend the day with, what would you do and would one day be enough...or would you ever come back?

I've had some great entries so far and look forward to more in this swap!

This is one time when you will definitely want to send your package as media mail. This will get you a better rate. And the journals don't have to be composition notebooks. 5X7 is fine, and they can even be handmade. It is up to the owner what kind of journal they want to use, after all it will be coming back home to them...eventually.

Maybe we could set up a series of international round robins, only with smaller journals. Like mini journals, so they are cheaper to mail.

Wow! A lot happened while I as at work this evening. We have enough participants for the first round. It looks like @secretterrabite will be hosting a UK Round Robin...#2?

Round 1 will take approximately 3 months to complete. While I enjoy hosting swaps, I'm not willing to host 2 round robins at once! Anyone who is up for hosting Round Robin #3, please let one of the founders know. Thank you.

Carol, we have enough interest to start a second Round Robin. Would you be interested in hosting it?

You are right, I posted that I wanted to limit the swappers to 5. What happened is that 4 people signed up on February 3 within hours of each other. The comment section clearly indicates who signed up when, so I have to base the participants on the order of their post in the comment section about their intended topics.

Swap-bot has provided all the addy info, just check your send to partners. Here's the issue: sb has us all sending the pandagirl for our first send-to partner. This would not be fair to pandagirl, getting 4 journals at once. So I need to revamp the list.

I have Russ's Home Town journal to send by April 20, and received the Gnome journal a few days ago...so I might be the one holding things up. Gnome will go out by May 8.

@mousepoo by the looks of things we will have our original journals back home about the first of June.

A big THANK YOU to everyone for the frequent updates. I can't tell you how happy I am at how the swap is going! Any questions or concerns, please let me know. It does take some time to move these books from place to place, but so far so good.

Whew! Stephanie, I have only recently got my mail redirection fixed up (although was still checking mail at my apartment) and worried one had gotten lost in the mail. I'm very glad you haven't sent the journals yet. Not fussed about the hold up.

If anybody needs/wants my new address, please let me know, but my mail IS being redirected from my old address to my new.

To members of this swap--I am sorry that I have not rated you as partners yet. Unfortunately, I have not received my own journal in order to evaluate your entries. I apologize to Kim for the delay in sending you the wolf journal. I have yet to receive it from the person who is scheduled to send it to me.

As soon as I get these journals, I plan to send the Wolf Journal and to rate those who have supplied entries into my own book.

I just wanted everyone to know the status of the swap and to place blame where it belongs.

Due to an unfortunate financial incident which left me barely able to pay bills, I have not been able to send out the gnome journal. However, it only needs a few finishing touches and I'll be sending it out on Monday. So So sorry for this delay. It's the only journal I've kept longer than the allotted time.
