About Me

I like Zentangling, for myself, and I like other people's work.

I was looking at some of the "top swaps" and noticed that many of them specified "no home made", well, home made is really what I would most like to receive (I can buy things for myself).

I'm on the far side of middle-aged, married, no kids, but we have a rescue dog (black pitbull - sweet as can be). I work full-time in an office (systems analyst) but I am no longer enthusiastic about it...counting the days, counting the days.

I have a small house on the East Coast of the US not too far from New York City. I like doll making most of all as that incorporates sculpture, painting, design, fabric, embroidery and beading. I used to be able to draw and paint, but I lost the knack from disuse. Zentangling seemed like a way back, but I like it for itself. I think the gems are really pretty.

  • Jewel tone colors
  • Hand-made/one of a kind
  • Wit and Symbolism
  • Fish-related (includes cephalopods)
  • Insects and Arachnids
  • Ooak Art Dolls
  • Shiny stuff
  • Grungy stuff
  • Beads, ribbons, embellishments
  • Anything interesting or unusual or personal
  • Religious iconography and mythology

  • Violence, cruelty and gore
  • Saccharin or kawaii
  • Passive-aggressive narcissists who can't be bothered to acknowledge they even received the swap for weeks on end because that isn't "fun" for them.

  • Stickers - most, but not all, are uninteresting
  • Cartoons (Garfield is hideous, but Mutts is elegant; I do love Lynda Barry)
  • mutts pic It just depends on how well it's done

  • Clowns mostly hate, but it could be done well, this one is charming: "Primitive Clown"

  • Muddy colors, again, it all depends on how they're used
  • I don't mind receiving religious tracts as long as you don't mind how I use them in my work (be forewarned)

Favorite Crafts

I like to do mixed media using jewelry, paper, ceramics - anything that can be altered or repurposed - one man's crap is another man's treasure.

Since I've joined Swap-bot, mail art has become my main creative outlet ~ postcards, ATCs and just starting zines which have challenge of the added elements of time and narrative. I've added gelli printing (lowercase because it's homemade from gelatin and glycerine, remelted after each use, pia) and alcohol inks to my repertoire since being here. I've done a couple of journals, but honestly, they're exhausting.

I also do handmade one of a kind paperclay and polymer clay dolls, so fabrics and embellishments (dangly earrings) are always welcome.

Response: Thanks - I hope you can re-use them

Comment: Thanks for this great zine! What a perfect idea, I won't give it away here. Hugs from Alaska, Sherry
Comment: Thanks for sending the zine along! It looks fantastic!
Comment: Actually, that restriction DOES give me a craving! LOL! There is a very good reason behind the restriction, so I understand, though.

Comment: Thank you so much for this beautiful ATC and the litter goodies but now the envie blew my mind loved it Saving it for cut outs
penelopesamuel rated for TPS: ATC #7 on Jun 27, 2019
Comment: Thank you so much for the beautiful ATC and the extras! I love the detail the lace creates in the gelli print :) I have not used lace before, but I will the next time I make prints. I really like the watercolor mandala blanks and am looking forward to tangling on them <3 Thank you so much for a wonderful envie full of goodies!!
Response: I found that my home-made gelatin plate caught the lace details better than the gelli plate. The paper used also makes a tremendous difference - plain cardstock and printing paper (arches cover, bfk rives) make almost photo-realistic impressions.

Comment: Beautiful inchies! Thank you. I love all the texture. I've recently started gelli printing. It's addictive! But, oh, the backgrounds for projects...

Comment: I have an idea about what I want to add to this unusual collaboration PC. Thank you for the extra goodies; I love the cats! 😊 Your envelope was awesome! 💕
Comment: This is a beauty! I so love the scent of peonies! I tried ordering some yellow ones, but they wouldn't send them to me! :( Hugs from Alaska, Sherry
Response: Yellow ones are different - I have two tree peonies that are yellow: High Noon and Age of Gold. What zone are you in? I'm Z6 but soon to be Z5 (moving after retirement, but already planting the garden up there). ~~~ Looked you up - you're warmer than I'll be. Perhaps we can make an arrangement when AoG gets to dividing size.
Comment: I love the background on this one. This should be really pretty when you get it back!
Jafferty rated for MJS: Mini-Magpie Journal on Jun 10, 2019
Comment: Thanks for the magpie journal! It's always fun to see the different ways people create theirs. I also appreciated the info on the process that you used. Thank you!
