About Me

I like Zentangling, for myself, and I like other people's work.

I was looking at some of the "top swaps" and noticed that many of them specified "no home made", well, home made is really what I would most like to receive (I can buy things for myself).

I'm on the far side of middle-aged, married, no kids, but we have a rescue dog (black pitbull - sweet as can be). I work full-time in an office (systems analyst) but I am no longer enthusiastic about it...counting the days, counting the days.

I have a small house on the East Coast of the US not too far from New York City. I like doll making most of all as that incorporates sculpture, painting, design, fabric, embroidery and beading. I used to be able to draw and paint, but I lost the knack from disuse. Zentangling seemed like a way back, but I like it for itself. I think the gems are really pretty.

  • Jewel tone colors
  • Hand-made/one of a kind
  • Wit and Symbolism
  • Fish-related (includes cephalopods)
  • Insects and Arachnids
  • Ooak Art Dolls
  • Shiny stuff
  • Grungy stuff
  • Beads, ribbons, embellishments
  • Anything interesting or unusual or personal
  • Religious iconography and mythology

  • Violence, cruelty and gore
  • Saccharin or kawaii
  • Passive-aggressive narcissists who can't be bothered to acknowledge they even received the swap for weeks on end because that isn't "fun" for them.

  • Stickers - most, but not all, are uninteresting
  • Cartoons (Garfield is hideous, but Mutts is elegant; I do love Lynda Barry)
  • mutts pic It just depends on how well it's done

  • Clowns mostly hate, but it could be done well, this one is charming: "Primitive Clown"

  • Muddy colors, again, it all depends on how they're used
  • I don't mind receiving religious tracts as long as you don't mind how I use them in my work (be forewarned)

Favorite Crafts

I like to do mixed media using jewelry, paper, ceramics - anything that can be altered or repurposed - one man's crap is another man's treasure.

Since I've joined Swap-bot, mail art has become my main creative outlet ~ postcards, ATCs and just starting zines which have challenge of the added elements of time and narrative. I've added gelli printing (lowercase because it's homemade from gelatin and glycerine, remelted after each use, pia) and alcohol inks to my repertoire since being here. I've done a couple of journals, but honestly, they're exhausting.

I also do handmade one of a kind paperclay and polymer clay dolls, so fabrics and embellishments (dangly earrings) are always welcome.

Comment: Thank you for the lovely postcard! Did I ever tell you my middle dog is named Daisy? She's an angel. Thanks for the nice note too!
Response: I think it's a common dog name. You're lucky. Neither my dog Nellie nor I are angelic. But we try to please.

Comment: Thank you for the beautiful card - I love the nautilus shell on it! Idaho does have only fresh water fish (but we have sturgeon, which look kinda cool). I've never seen that crackle finish before, it looks fantastic! Thanks so much,

Comment: Great work! Thank you so much. i'll keep it moving.
Comment: So cute - thanks!
Comment: This one is so spectacular! It just glows! Thanks so much! We have had a cool, gloomy summer. Sept tried to make up for it, but now that we are in Oct, it is gloomy and rainy again. Hugs from Alaska, Sherry
Comment: Excellent. Thank you! Great twinchie, too! Love the shading.
Comment: Hi Cecily . . . Your tangle pages are gorgeous! I'm not sure what the International stamp that you included in the envelope is for since this is a USA only swap and postage to Alaska is the same as to anywhere else in the USA, including Puerto Rico. If the envelope is 1 oz. or less, and it's being mailed to any US state or territory, then the cost is $0.50.
Response: I know, but the stamp was passed to me and I didn't feel that I should keep it.There was some confusion with the zines going from USA to International or vice versa. I'm in both so I try to keep them straight sending out, but sometimes you might have extra of one and none of the other. Thanks for the kind words.
Comment: Thanks for the beautiful tangle! I love the envie and the extras too! This will be fun to work on and to send forward! Andrea is going to love it when she gets it back! Hugs from Alaska, Sherry

Comment: Great collage background...I will work on this and pass it along! Thank you for the ATC sleeved pretty rub-on decals (I may have gotten the decals mixed up with another sender, but I know you sent the sleeves, and I thank you! Our summer has also been hot, humid and stormy! I love summer, but Iā€™m looking forward to Fall!

I received your Hot Drinks with a Twist tag, thank you!! The teas look great and I've never had "Constant Comment" before but I knew it's the most popular tea by Bigelow, so yay! Thanks for the cute handmade embellishments, they are gorgeous! And once again, thanks for resending :)

TAG! Let's Play - fish collage has swum up to my door, and I love it, thank you! Well, Alberta might not have a lot of different seafood, but we have a lot of fish; I'm not interested in fishing, though :)

milamilamura on Apr 19, 2018:

Hello girl! I've received part two of the tag 3 Hot drinks with a twist, funny how the first part hasn't made it yet, but I'm sure I'll get it soon :) From the surprise description on your card, I have no idea what it is, but I already know I'm going to love it hehe. Thanks for the teas and the hot chocolate! Have a fun week!

You have jack-in-the-pulpit in your yard? Do you have woods? It must be a lovely yard! I have some bloodroot that I planted it (not naturally occurring). (It has spread a lot from my original planting, though, so that is nice.)
