About Me

**18 May Note: A letter I sent to Germany to correct a swap didn't make it there, so I currently have a 3. I am putting another in the mail in the morning, but until it's cleared up I'm backing out of all the swaps that haven't assigned partners. I want everyone to feel comfortable swapping with me.

Also, I currently have a 3 from a re-send on a swap. It arrived there but since it was postmarked after the send date, the receiver rated me a 3. I am trying to work this out with them, but since I hadn't had to re-send anything before this month's chaos I am unsure how to address re-sends. Again, I'm not signing up for any new swaps until this whole mess is sorted out. **

I'm a fairly geeky science type, just as interested in biology as in fandoms. Every year I try to learn a new skill, and this year I'm having a go at crocheting and knitting. Pretty sure I might add basic carpentry to that since I'm redoing my kitchen and I want to do as much as I can myself.

I've got a service dog and three cats. The service dog was on purpose, every single cat was accidental. The first one was literally handed to me by my old boss and never left. A few years later she found a starving kitten outside and brought it inside, and that one never got around to leaving.

Arts/Crafts I do:

  • Paint (water soluble oils, acrylics)
  • Draw
  • ATCs
  • Knit/crochet (just learning this year so I'm bad)
  • Bookmaking (as in the hand-sewn kind)
  • PRINTMAKING (I'm crazy about it)
  • Cooking. It's art
  • Those big fancy ridiculous cakes (I've made two wedding cakes)

Things I like:

  • Reading
  • Star Wars
  • Star Trek
  • Stargate
  • Things with Star in the title
  • Supernatural
  • Doctor Who
  • Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson and Tesla
  • SCIENCE
  • Cats and dogs because WHY CHOOSE
  • Socks. For real, they are seriously underrated
  • Cooking
  • Writing
  • Making (terrible) art
  • Science fiction
  • Urban fantasy
  • Regular fantasy
  • Interesting biographies

Things I don't like:

  • Not crazy about pink but tolerate it sparingly
  • Judgmental people
  • Teachery stickers
  • Donald Trump
  • Overmushy bananas
  • Clowns
  • Modern War movies (anything more recent than swords is no bueno)
  • Mango
  • Shellfish
  • Those awful old romance novels where the heroine is very competent but mysteriously becomes ridiculous at the first sign of trouble and has to be saved by a man

Most of all, I like meeting new people from new places! Travelling is something I love but it's not in my budget to do it without some careful planning, so swaps are a good way to indulge my interest in other places.

As a side note, I know two dialects of Spanish, Latin, and a few kinds of Arabic, so if you're worried about bad English you're fine with me!

Comment: These are AMAZING! I am in love with each and every envelope - you obviously put a lot of time into them and they perfectly fit folded papierre paper which is my 'go to' at the moment. Thank you so much for these - I have used three this morning already :)
Response: I am so very glad you like them!

Comment: This really was the best of all possible worlds -- science involving a nostalgic substance of dubious chemical origins AND visions of a large anthropomorphic pitcher crashing through walls and saying "OH, YEAH!" Also, an interesting story that ends in beer. A toast to you, DeadlyHausfrau, with a finely brewed organic substance without artificial colors or flavorings!
Response: Well, now I'm blushing. Your exuberance makes me smile. At least something came out of that Kool-Aid Mess (which I had to do TWICE).

Comment: Good idea to send a book you may not have chosen for yourself but ended up really liking. I think the point if these swaps is to get us to read something we may otherwise not be exposed to. Voodoo sounds pretty interesting to me! :) Thanks!
Response: I liked it a lot. I hope you do, too!

Comment: Thank you for the cute ATC and note explaining it. The swap itself was fine, but the envelope was postmarked May 18th, some 11 days after the swap deadline of the 7th.
Response: That was the re-send. :) I didn't get rated so I put another in the mail so as not to be rated down. Is that not okay?

Comment: How did you make the pendant and what is the symbol on it? Thanks also for the little duck.
Response: The symbol is a semi-colon, it means your story isn't over yet. :) I made it from sculpey with an inset of a different color, then boiled to give it the aged look instead of a glossy one.
