About Me

I am a (former) middle school art teacher from the mid-west. I love all kinds of art and disliked those that taught it, needless to say, I had very poor experiences in art classes in the public school system. I am looking forward to exploring the area around Madison to see the variety of artwork being created by the various artists in my NEW digs.

Favorite Music

I really enjoy Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, reminds me of vacation.

Favorite Books

Reading: "Bad Kids go to Heck" and "The Everything Toddler Book". Jodi Picoult is my favorite fiction writer. I also like Malcome Gladwell's books.

Favorite Television

Two and a Half Men, The Office, My Name is Earl, Sponge Bob Square Pants, 30 days (Morgan Spurlock is AWESOME!) and Dog the Bounty Hunter

Favorite Crafts

Beading, Scrapbooking, Cross-stitching, Clay work, making Towel Wedding Cakes and most recently, felt applique

Things I like

My favorite colors are teal, deep purple, golden yellow, burgandy and sage green. I like patterns and new projects, since I seem to acquire these items frequently. I like baking and usually find a way to "play" with the food and make something sculptural instead of flat, it's usually edible afterwards. I just had a little girl so I have been looking for fun things to make for her...still need to work on her cross-stitched birth announcement! I also love anything Hawaiian and the Iowa State Fair! I enjoy getting handmade items and appreciate the variety of artistic styles that people have.

Things I collect

Sea turtles, Seashells and beach sand, Miniature crocks, church cook books, Lapel pins and "fun" necklaces to wear to school, Hallmark ornaments (I got started by a family member when I was little), Handmade santas, Beads, Recipes, Pug dog items, Circus clown stuff, Pasanky dyed/hand painted eggs, Cross-stitch patterns, I think I just like going to the shop to see what's new! Craft projects, Fabric for Halloween, baby and, Christmas quilts (just another hobby I don't have time to pursue!) The occasional postage stamp...I used to belong to a club! Hawaiian stuff, mostly old travel pictures and brochures, everything is so "touristy" now! Dotee dolls, buttons, rubber stamps, pretty much anything related to arts and crafts!

Favorite Desserts

White cake, Chocolate dipped strawberries, soft serve ice cream, coffee drinks, strawberry shortcake, fresh pineapple and caramel puffed corn!

Things I don't like

Snakes, Apples (the collectable stuff, everyone thinks that you collect it if you are a teacher), Socks that are too small (I have huge feet, shoe size 12), Fruity teas and glitter (sorry, art teacher phobia-my friend Marcy loves the stuff)

Response: You are so very welcome, I hope you can use them for Christmas, I really liked making them. As always, I had more ideas then time or I would still be making more-I need to get my holiday cards out soon! Thought you could use the santas for ATCs sometime:o)

Response: Glad to hear you recieved them, I was starting to wonder if I should contact you but I figured you probably took a vacation or something. I didn't look at a map but I'm sure you could see smoke from the fires in California and I hoped you weren't directly affected. Hope you could send some out before the holiday:o)

Response: I'm glad you liked everything and it got there quicker then I had anticipated! If there was a certain spice you wanted I would be glad to send it also. The McCormick spices are easy to get here, we are very fortunate, but I thought you might like to try the others too. Tone's spices is not far from where I live and I like the Penzkey's spices, I try a lot of them in the smaller sizes like the one I sent to you. Enjoy experimenting and the offer to send others is always open:o)

Response: It's always better to give then recieve in all of the swaps as far as I'm concerned. I spent a lot of time working on the pigs I sent as well as purchasing things to add to the package. I hope your dog liked the treats too. Hopefully, you will be able to "pay it forward" and follow through on the swaps to have signed up for.

Comment: All I can think of to say is WOW! This pkg blew me away. I have never seen so many elephant things in a pkg. I can't say I have a favorite because I love it all. The buttons, the fabric and well ok I have a favorite....the little elephant dotee and the beautiful elephant fabric dotee. I love her expression. Absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much.
