I am in my mid-thirties and work part time in an awesome toy store. Before that I worked as a Nursery school teacher, a childrens nanny for about 12 yrs, and more recently, a stint as a manager of a party shop. Writing is something that I have wanted to do from about the age of seven. I am as yet unpublished but have not given up on the dream!
I am married and have a 3yr old little boy (who loves anything to do with the Cars movie and cars in general. I also have 2 step-sons.Since our cat is a male I am definately feeling a little out numbered on the testosterone front! I love animals and would like to have been a vet but know I would end up adopting all the strays and bawling at all the sad bits. I often prefer animals to people.
I really enjoy being creative and dabble in a few different crafty hobbies. I am a very keen miniaturist and belong to our local Guild Of Miniatures, a group of truly amazing and talented people! I am learning a lot by attending the wide variety of workshops on offer. We make projects that I intend using to furnish and fill the Victorian Dollshouse (scale 1/12 inches) that I have been working on decorating, electrifying etc for the last 6 years or so. It is nearly ready to be lovingly kitted out with all the hoarded treasures I have been collecting and making over the last 15 years! One day I would like to create a creepy/ spooky dollhouse. I am drawn to quircky and humourously macabre things!
I also make unusual polymer clay jewellry, often with food as inspiration! Private swap anyone??
I am quite into scrapbooking, and just love all the cool supplies and amazing ways there are to showcase your memories.
I have just started to try teach myself how to crochet, because ultimately I want to downsize the craft to suit my miniature purposes. I have hopes of trying to earn a bit of cash by making goodies that other miniaturists simply have to have!
I also enjoy making personalised keepsake books as gifts for friends for special occasions. I have dabbled in fabric painting, graphic design, lino-cut prints, drawing, painting (again something I would like to have a go at in mini form), card making and I have also just gotten into ATC's.
Besides flexing my crafty muscles, I don't mind partaking in various forms of gentle exercise like walking and yoga. I don't enjoy: cooking (but i do like baking) housework (except for laundry) standing in queues, too much TV, cruel people, crowded places, canned laughter, insensitivity, cockroaches and chilli.
I like a lot of different artists and genres but some of my ultimate favourites include: The Beatles, Everclear, Foo Fighters, Queen, Chris Cornell, System Of A Down, John Lennon, Presidents of the United States, Blur, Offspring, Pixies, Soundgarden....
There is nothing better than being able to get cosy in your nest with a great read, yummy snacks and an uninterrupted block of time! Some best reads: The World According to Garp Confessions of a Bad Mother Lord of the Rings Return of the Native any Harry Potter Dexter series any miniatures or scrapbooking mag
I don't like to watch too much TV as its too easy to get sucked in by the intruiging shows and then you just end up with less time to create. Shows I can't resist: Dexter, Doctor Who, Big Bang Theory, My Name is Earl, Tori and Dean
I do enjoy watching DVD's (preferably with a big bowl of buttered popcorn) like: Addicted to Love, Love Actually, Withnail and I, Friends episodes, any Harry Potter, I am also collecting all of Tim Burton's movies
COLOURS: purples, polka dots, black and white stripes
ANIMALS: big and small cats but esp. tigers, cows (black and white ones) polar bears, Hello Kitty, Fish Eagles
SMELLS: fruity berries, lemon, peppermint, vanilla, cinnamon, new books, oil pastels
FOODS: I have no allergies and I LOVE peanut butter chocolates like Butterfingers, Reeses Peanut Butter pieces etc, chocolates I would love to try a Blueberry (or orange) flavour KitKat, we don't get that here, also LOVE Hubba Bubba gum, Haribo sweets. My husband is very partial to liquorice!
Would love ATC stuff, Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton, Edward Gory etc. Anything weird and quircky! Dark humour really appeals to me. Tiny things (the tinier the better), dollhouse miniatures..have a Victorian dollhouse and am working on a spooky, creepy house, both 1\12 scale. I like to create with polymer clay and we don't get the Kato brand here... Unusual charms. Vintage or unusual images I can use in a smash book
