About Me

Lesson learned: Always trust your instincts!!

7/20/09 -Well the doctor was sick, but they still did the U/S and yeah -it's reduced to 1/2 the size and is considered normal! And I actually saw it so I trust what I was told. So no surgery and I'm physically fine!!

7/16/09 -I had my 2nd opinion and he does not think I need surgery. I have another visit with him on Monday to do an U/S to confirm everything is ok. Finally -something positive from a doctor! Let's hope it continues through Monday's visit.

6/23/09 -I am healing -but now I have an ovarian cyst (most likely from the pregnancy) that has grown from 2cm to 3cm and is classified as suspicious. So my doctor wants to do surgery to remove it and believes I will lose my right ovary in the process. I'm going for a 2nd opinion soon. So continue to pray for my family :)

5/26/09 update -I will be late on most of my swaps:

We learned 1.5 weeks ago that we were pregnant with our 2nd child. Our joy was diminished today when we learned that they believe that I had an ectopic pregnancy and have m/c or will m/c. I had a lot of swaps due this week but I will be late with all of them due to the healing process and to mourn our loss. I will have my husband carry them to the post as I finish them, but I ask for your kindness and patience as my family deals with this news. I normally wouldn't post something so personal, but there is healing in acknowledging what is happening. I have a follow up Dr. visit on Thurs and still have hope that the ER results were wrong. So if you pray, please do so for us :)

I am a 30-something momma to my 2 year daughter and wife to my husband of 4 years (+ 6 years of dating & 1 year of friendship).

Creativity is my soul. Being outside of the box is my happy place. I thrive on being different. My favorite quote is by Albert Einstein –“Imagination is more important than knowledge”.

I spent my whole life trying to be like everyone else until I realized I just wasn't. I don’t really know how to describe it, but ask anyone who knows me –I just see things differently. I’m the square peg that likes hanging out at the circle hole. I'm one of those people who see's all sides of the coin -and there is more than 2.

People have described me as a problem solver, a silent leader, patient, honest, a good listener, detail oriented, always willing to help others, open minded, unique and creative. They’ve also described me as argumentative, stubborn, and late for everything. Oh and a big Beotch. But I take that as my right while I work to get exactly what I want and deserve out of life.

I am an optimist for everyone else and a pessimist about myself. Although I do believe that I can have everything that I want –I just have to find the way to get it. Settling should only be a pit stop on the way to making the impossible possible.

The only people I hate are those that think they are better than everyone else and people who use others.

My pet peeves are bad drivers. I wish that drivers had to go through Tanya's driving school to get a license. I leave it at that cause I could rant for at least 3 pages on how I feel about bad drivers.

My lifelong goal is to design shoes. Actually I want to accomplish that before I turn 40. I love shoes. I know most women say that, but many people have called me Imelda. My goal before graduating high school was to have over 200 pairs of shoes. I didn’t make it, but I had like 150, of which I still have most of them. The reason I love shoes –they always make me feel good. I don’t feel too fat, short, dumpy, ugly, or old and there is always one that fits right off the rack. Unlike clothes. I love clothes, but clothes shopping depresses me because I do feel all of the above.

I love making people happy. I love to give to others. I love helping others.

And if you haven’t noticed from reading my profile –I am all over the place. I just love experiencing life –without seafood though. I don’t like seafood.

Favorite Music

I am an ecclectic music lover minus country. Country is only for line dancing (which I do like). My absolute favorite music is made by musicians -the kind who write the music and play the instruments and don't need all the technology to make it sound beautiful. Like Regina Spektor, Ben Harper, John Legend, Need to Breathe. My all time favorite is my friend Joe -he even wrote a song for me! My favorite band would be Erasure. The only thing I absolutely hate is heavy metal -it's just not my thing.

Favorite Books

Mmmm, books are like chocolate to me -all the glory without the calories. I love books. I generally have no less than 5 books started at any given time. I just love books. I had 4 bookshelves double deep with books -I have recently purged down to 1 b/c we are moving. But I love books. I like anything that is interesting and makes you think. I read every category except manga (sp?) and reference. I especially love series. I'm always sad when you fall in love with the characters or the plot and it ends cause it's just one book. But I hate waiting for the next book in the series. Yin and Yang I guess.

Series I've read -Left Behind series, Nora Roberts -pretty much read all of her series except the boy one, Stephanie Plum series, Sue Grafton's Alphabet series, Iris Johannsen's Eve Duncan series, James Patterson's Women's murder club series, Game of Thrones series, Sword of Truth series, JD Robb Death series, Twilight (only 1st book though)

Favorite Movies

I love Julia Roberts and Meg Ryan movies. I have watched Pretty Woman and You've Got Mail more times than I care to share. I don't like slap stick comedy for the most part. Though Stepbrothers made me laugh my booty off. I dislike kung-fu movies where the voices come through 3 seconds after the mouth moves. My husband loves them of course. And I love scary movies -but there are very few good ones.

Favorite Television

Grey's Anatomy is my all-time favorite TV show. It has replaced my Sex in the City addiction. My next favorite is Project Runway. I also like Top Chef, Hell's Kitchen, American Idol, House, Heroes, Life on Mars, Clean House and Intervention.

And I think Carlos Mencia has the funniest show on the earth.

I am not a fan of Office Space. I don't like Seinfeld and I hate South Park.

Favorite Crafts

I do them all and I love them all -except knitting and crocheting. I'm still working on those two.

My favorite craft is anything that allows me to buy more fabric. I love fabric and sewing. But it's really the fabric that I am addicted to. I have about 60 tubs worth of fabric.

My Family

My daughter just turned 2 in March. She LOVES shoes (I have no idea where she could have gotten that from). Grandma got her a set of 6 dress up shoes and she has now mastered heels! Oh so scary that she walks better than mommy in heels! She's into princesses and dress up. The girl loves her bling -necklaces, rings, bracelets. She also loves powertools and sports with Daddy. She is fiercely independent -which she gets from both her Mom and Dad. Mostly she looks like her Dad and acts like her Mom. I was hoping for the other way around since he's way laid back and I'm emotionally high maintainence. I am interested in learning more about Waldorf or Montessori education for her. So if you've chosen either lifestyle for your family I'd be glad to hear more. I'd also love to get my hands on any homeschooling preschool info!

Swaps for my daughter: I don't mind recieving secondhand items as long as they are clean and in good shape. Remember she is only 2 and is a thumbsucker so if it's nasty don't send!

  • We would love bath toys. They don't have to be labeled bath toys -if your kids loved something in the tub -pass it on. Right now we have bath foamies and some sand toys from Ikea.
  • She loves music -songs as well as noise makers.
  • Locks puzzle or any dexterity puzzles.
  • Felt story boards.
  • Books. She loves them as much as her parents -yeah!
  • Anything to help learn her alphabet, numbers, colors and animals.
  • Felt food.
  • We are trying to keep candy as a treat. We don't mind if you send, but only send 1 or 2 pieces.
  • Ideas...she is my first child and I'm still learning how to teach her. So ideas for learning/teaching are always appreciated.
  • She wears a 4T and size 8 shoes. .
    .
My husband is an engineer and from the Bahamas. He loves Reggae music, LinkedIn, homemade food, boardgames and boy movies like Braveheart and LOTR. Oh and his Crackberry -there are days that I've considered a hostile takeover of that thing. But he doesn't complain when I bring home more fabric to add to the stash -so what's a little Crackberry addiction?! He has an Xbox 360 and wishes he had more time to play it. He wears a size L/XL shirt. He loves books on CD -fantasy/sci fi, historical, or just really good books. Ummm, he really doesn't collect anything. He's a computer & electronics geek. Now I'm beginning to wonder how we ended up together...I must have hid my craft addictions!

The List

In case my profile still stumps you on what to swap/make/get for me here's a few other do's and don'ts

Do's

  • anything you think my daughter might like
  • frogs (I collect them)
  • favorite color is green (someday I'd like a lime green and orange slugbug)
  • tiny things (trying to make an I-spy bag)
  • dotees
  • brain games -sudoku, puzzles, etc.
  • pens
  • stationary (really want novelty paper tablets -the kind you could get at the drugstore back in the day)
  • Waldorf anything
  • Inspirational stuff
  • love handmade stuff
  • my craft room is a subtle lime green, grey and cream
  • seasonal tea towels
  • Holiday decorations (indoor or outdoor)
  • I like handmade jewelry
  • garden gnomes and yard art
  • Angels
  • homemade foods/sweets
  • tea
  • thoughtfulness

My new kitchen theme is Lemons and Limes so I'm looking for kitcheny stuff with that on it.

I wear an L in tops, I have small hands and feet. I wear a ring finger of 5(ring), 6(middle) and shoe size of 6.

Do Not's

  • cats
  • vampires (unless it's a book)
  • anime/manga
  • floral smells (except jasmine or gardenia)
  • lace
  • grape smell or flavor
  • dark chocolate
  • peanuts
  • coffee (like the smell, but can't drink it)
  • shrimp & seafood

In general I'm pretty easy to please. I'm a big fan of the thoughts behind it. Even if it's not my thing, but your heart is behind it, I'll find something that I like about it simply because you cared.

Comment: Thank you for the great package. If it weren't that it was several months late I would give you a 5 and a star. I'm sorry I have to rate a rate 3 though. I do appreciate that you sent it and the thought that you put into it.
Response: My health comes before any swap and that was why it was late. I'm sorry that you felt you could only give me a 3. I hope you enjoy nonetheless.

Comment: Wow! This is a wonderful package. It took me a minute to realize where the needlebook was, because I was so taken with the pear. The leaf! If you had only sent me the leaf/needlebook I would have been impressed because it is so beautifully designed and made. You put so much work into this and I am enchanted. My daughter and I are laughing about the seam ripper because one of the great mysteries of my life is the seam ripper that went missing in the blink of an eye. Anyway, you are a terrific swapper. *Happy dance*
