About Me

I am 51 years young, mother of four adult children, an English/Language Arts teacher, and an artist.

I live in the soggy but beautiful Pacific Northwest and enjoy gardening, cooking, baking, running, crocheting, reading, writing poetry, and creating art. I have participated in some art and ATC swaps through Instagram and Facebook. I am also a member of Postcrossing (an international postcard swapping website).

In the summer, my husband and I travel by motorcycle. Last year we rode to Yellowstone.

Favorite Music

I like everything except country. Currently, I am listening to groups such as Young the Giant, Imagine Dragons, Aloe Blacc, Amos Lee, Weaver at the Loom, The Neighbourhood, and Josiah Leming. I also like disco and dance music, especially when I am running.

Favorite Books

I am a voracious reader. Being an English/Language Arts teacher, I mostly read Young Adult Literature (YAL). I am on Goodreads ( user name: Penney Samuel). I also read poetry, and have had the privilege of meeting Lucille Cliffton.

Favorite Movies

I enjoy movies, but I don't watch them often. I couldn't tell you the last movie I watched, much less my favorite movie :)

Favorite Television

We don't have cable, but we do have Netflix. My favorite TV show is Dr. Who, followed closely by Futurama. When we had cable, I liked Jeopardy and The Big Bang Theory.

Favorite Crafts

I love crafts of all kinds. I enjoy making cards, using my gelli plate, making ATCs, postcards, art cards, zentangle, doodling, drawing, art journaling, and anything else that has to do with paper, paint, pens, crayons, pencils, etc.

random stuff

I love writing poetry and fiction and have had my poetry published in two literary journals. During my undergraduate studies, I was the poetry editor of my university's literary and arts journal. Throughout my college career, I tutored writing, grammar, math, natural science, and spanish.

Wish List

Sometimes swaps are surprises based on a person's profile, so I thought I should provide a list of items I'd love to receive should I join that type of swap :) My favorite color is purple, so you can't go wrong when using that as a guideline!

I love songbirds and trees, so cards, stationary, postcards, sticky notes, etc with a bird or tree theme will be cherished.

I drink mostly tea. My preferred tea is Numi (breakfast blend and chocolate pur-reh). I love to try new teas, but I don't like having to buy an entire box of tea to try a new brand or flavor.

I love anything literature or book themed.

I love quotes on cards, magnets, bookmarks

I like vintage paper ephemera -- anything from a page out of a children's book to an advertisement from a magazine. Blank ledger pages, old library check out cards, old card catalog cards.

I love when friends share their favorite recipes - please know that I am a vegetarian, so meatless recipes are greatly appreciated.

I love rubber stamps -- new or used.

I love old postage stamps and stickers

Lavender is my favorite natural scent.

Art Supplies:

Molotow pens, Pan Pastels,
NeoColor II water-soluble crayons,
Golden Fluid paints, Micron Pens, Staedtler Pens,
Yupo paper,
Zentangle books/tiles, rubber stamps,
washi tape,

Last but not least, I am perfectly fine with used or regifted items as long as they are in excellent condition :)

Comment: Guess what finally arrived! 2+ weeks from Seattle. Not cool to make us worry. I think all the postal workers were admiring your gorgeous envelope! :) I love the bird card. The rust and teal night sky is exquisite and the moon is beautifully subtle. I am excited to check out some of the new paints/textures you have used. The baked textures are gorgeous. And I definitely want to try the micaceous iron oxide. Thanks for the big sample print to play with! It is very cool. So once again I am lucky to add two more of your lovely cards to my collection. They were definitely worth the wait!! <3<3<3

Comment: I don't know how your cards keep getting better and better when each of your swaps is exceptional. I keep all of your greetings cards but this one is a favorite. I do lots of leaf printing in the fall but never thought to use some ferns. DUH! I will give that a go! Your ATCs are gorgeous -- I always go to nature for my inspiration. Your leaf prints are beautiful, esp. the blue and green fairy fern. Such delicious delicacy. I love your seed pod stencil, and the color palettes, and the quotes. Perfect package of goodies. Including yet another bioluminescent postage stamp. You ROCK!! :) <3<3<3
Response: You are too kind, Michele! I am so pleased you liked what I sent :) I had great fun figuring out how many different ways I could use my fern fronds! Thank you for the great rating and heart and for continuing to host this wonderful swap <3<3

Comment: Thanks for your wonderful postcard and message. I really like your tape stripes -- it makes for a nice bunch of printing samples! Clever idea. I hope you have a great crafty summer. If you discover a particularly cool gelli technique I hope you share it with me :) <3
Response: Thank you for the great rating and the heart! I'm glad you liked the postcard -- I cannot bear to throw any printed scrap away ha ha so I keep making them! I have not printed yet this summer and it is flying by :( Hopefully I'll find some time in the next few weeks!

Comment: Good golly what an awesome swap package! Stellar envelope and presentation (as usual). Thanks so much for the gorgeous bioluminescent postage stamp! (and penguins!) The greeting card is STUNNING! I have to start using die cuts on my gelli prints (instead of just placing them on top of the print). The turquoise gold and white combo is spectacular. Then I get to the actual cards ... and they are amazing. Great prints and quotes and I love the cute critters you played with in this round. And the wash tape raindrops -- brilliant! I am always thrilled to see mail art from you heading my way. Don't ever worry about "same old same old". You always teach me new tricks and inspire me. Have yourself a glorious summer! <3<3<3
Response: Apparently I am terrible at responding to ratings -- I didn't realize how far behind I was :( Thank you so much for your kind compliments about my cards :) It is always a fun challenge to think of new ideas for this swap :) I have a slight addiction to digital stamps and that dog is one of my favorites :)
Comment: There you go stamping on your prints again! With absolutely perfect results. I LOVE the little girl and her quote. lol And you are right, the blue side is spectacular. I'm glad you left it unadorned. The sparkle quote is one of my favorites and I like you little vintage dancer. And thanks for the reminder to use some of my punchella -- I have a ton of that stuff. As always, I am beyond thrilled to add some of your beautiful cards to my collection! <3<3<3
Response: I have an entire roll of punchinella, and I rarely think to use it. I tend to drag it out when I am desperate and can't think of anything else to use. Thank you for continuing to host this swap -- it's my favorite! And thank you for the great rating and the heart!

Response: Thank you so much for the great rating and heart! I am so pleased you liked it :) I love using up my random strips instead of throwing them away!

Comment: Thank you so much for the card! The print is gorgeous! As always, a fantastic swap from you! <3
Response: Thank you for the great rating and the heart! If it was the teal and purplish print, it was difficult to part with ha ha! I'm glad you liked it. That stencil is one of my favorites :)
Comment: Thanks for the awesome postcard, Penelope! I love the stamp with the newspaper hat boat and the girl, too. <3
Response: Thank you for the great rating and the heart! I'm glad you liked the postcard. I'm trying to use some of my neglected stamps more often!
Comment: OK I need to start making my own printed envelopes. Yours are always so bright and inspiring! (Thanks for the beautiful postage stamps too!). Your cards are exceptional. It is so fun to swap with you! I'm partial to black birds and the back of that card is really interesting. It almost looks like you outlined the white elements but it is just how the paint ridged up? Very cool. The quote print on the other card -- yellow and blue with the purple over-print -- is a wonderful color palette. And both quotes are excellent. Definitely ones to ponder. I am SO thrilled to add these cards to my collection. <3<3<3
Response: Thank you for the kind compliments, the great rating, and the heart :) Making envelopes from prints is probably my all time favorite way to use them! I have the We R Memory Keepers envelope punchboard, which makes it super easy. You are correct about the paint ridging up :) I'm glad you like the quotes -- I love searching for new ones :)

Comment: Thanks for the pretty postcard! By the way, my oldest child is a nerdfighter from way back and I just finished TATWD last week :^) PS great postage stamps!
Response: Thank you for the great rating and the heart! I'm so happy you liked the postcard :) Tell your nerdfighter DFTBA! I love postage and I might be addicted, so it's always fun to share cool stamps. Also, in case you hadn't heard, Hank Green wrote a novel and it's available for presale on various platforms. The release date is September 25.

Comment: LOVE this is person!! All the beautiful layers from start to finish! How did you do the rubber-stamps (glitter? embossing powder? how are they clear underneath?! So many things I don't know about supplies :D!!) Thanks for joining the swap and for another beautiful MailArt piece from you!!
Comment: Thank you for sending me such a fabulous swap! I love the envelope -- so bright and cheery -- and the striking greeting card print and stencil cutout -- I am so stealing that idea! -- and the cool starlight washi tape! :) But then it really gets good .... your gorgeous cards. I really appreciate your gelli prints as textured eye candy. Lots of interesting detail. Very inspirational "Just Do It" quote and lovely snowflake haiku. But my favorite thing of all is your moonlit tree artwork -- stunning color and composition. I am displaying it on an easel in my art room for the winter. Here's wishing you beautiful holidays. Hope to see you again swapping in January. <3<3<3
Response: Thank you so much for the great rating and the heart! I'm so pleased you liked everything! The stencil cutout is actually a die from Tim Holtz. He did several sets. I believe they are called mixed media dies. I was very happy with how the tree and moon card turned out, and I am glad you liked it too! Have a wonderful Christmas, and I will definitely be participating next month :)
Comment: Recieved my cards. I really like the one reminding that "Your today is not your forever" - often hard to remember when life throws you a curve. I appreciated the notecard made from your print!
Response: Thank you for the great rating and the heart :) I am very glad you liked everything!

Comment: Thank you for another beautiful set of cards. The "Special" card is definitely my favorite. I love the pink and teal palette and your glitter gesso/stencil work. And I agree the print on the back stands alone. I also really like the quote by Moshe Dayan. And I got a hoot out of how you addressed the beautiful envelope. I hope the postal workers appreciated it. Always a pleasure to have you in my swap. Thanks again. <3<3<3
Response: Thank you for the great rating and the heart! I had a lot of fun with the envelope, and I had my fingers crossed it wouldn't get waylaid on the way.

Thanks for the beautiful gelli print card surprise! Wax resist! DUH! Why haven't I tried this yet? (I LOVE all resist techniques). I'm glad to see you so actively swapping -- your artwork is always beautiful and inspirational. I am working on getting my gardens in shape so that I can spend the horrible hot Ohio summer in my cool basement art studio! :) Will be sure to play with some wax! Thanks for the lovely letter and cool bee postage stamp. May you have a glorious springtime! <3<3<3
