My name is Karen and I'm an American, but have been living in Finland since 1997. I'm married to a Finn and we have a son born in 2001. We also have cats (or they have us).
I'm happiest when I have paper, scissors and glue. I love to make mini albums or small pieces of art. I'm looking forward to trying my hand at ATCs. I love scrapbooking, but don't always have time. I usually make cards when I need some paper and glue therapy.
I also crochet. My grandmother taught me the basics when I was young and then I picked up a book in my 20s and started again. I make baby afghans most of the time. I have a Christmas afghan that I started 20 years ago and hope to finish some day.
I'm trying to learn to sew. My machine is old, a gift from my mother-in-law who received it from her mother. The threading is daunting and I can never remember how to thread it. I need to learn how to use it so I can sew on my cards and layouts. Oh, and there's that cathedral quilt I started years ago. Learning to sew would help with a lot of things.
My husband is usually in charge of the music. We do have similar tastes, but I grew up in the U.S. and he grew up in Finland. I was more into rock and I still love it. He likes that synth European stuff. I've learned to like it, even love it, but I still keep the harder stuff in my iTunes.
Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Muse, U2, Ultravox (dh's influence), New Order, Bryan Adams
I cook and bake. A lot. As soon as the snow melts enough to let me get to my grill, I start grilling.
My favorite things to bake are cookies and cupcakes. I recently made my first pies and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
I've been experimenting with sourdough. It's a tough skill to master. My favorite thing to make with sourdough is English muffins.
I enjoy anything that is well-written. I've read a lot of fantasy books as well as the Twilight and Hunger Games series. In the last few years I've found that I really like Dale Carnegie's books and have looked for others like them.
I look at the free e-books on Amazon and choose any title that has good ratings and looks like it will appeal to me.
I recently read The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin and enjoyed it. It's always nice when we can come to realizations about ourselves and can make changes for the better.
What can you send me? Supplies for card making, boy scrapbook layouts, ribbon - even 6-12 inches, washi or deco tape, a sheet of glue dots.
I don't really use sequins, but I have been known to use some Stickles.
Acrylic stamps or unmounted rubber stamps that I can stick on an acrylic block.
Stickers as long as they are cardstock stickers or alpha stickers. I don't care about the color of the alpha stickers because I use them for masking or trace around them if the color is wrong.
Printed digital stamps or some stamped images to color. The digital stamps should be a size that's good for cards.
I like black tea. I don't care for fruity tea, but dh likes it. He drinks much more tea than I do.
Thanks for asking!
I love coffee. Pictures of coffee or quotes about coffee that I can use in some projects would be great!
