Here's a quick & sweet way to make 4 photo ATCs. Choose a photo that you've taken yourself and have it printed so that it's 5 x 7 inches. Back it with cardstock and then cut it into fourths by cutting it in half and then cutting each half in half--the result will be 4 ATCs, each measuring 2.5 x 3.5 inches. No further embellishment necessary--just send 1 of the resulting ATCs to each of your 4 partners.

The results can be interesting (I think) because when you cut the photo into fourths it yields a new center and focus for each ATC. It's a way to see each part of your photo afresh.

The subject matter of your photo is entirely up to you. Kind of camera used and degree of digital alteration (or none at all) are also sender's choice.

You can print your photo at home or have it commercially printed--either is fine as long as the result is a good quality print that you then back with cardstock before cutting.

The fine print: 1) Newbies are welcome. 2) Rated swappers with a rating below 4.95 will be dropped before partners are assigned. I will also drop swappers whose profiles may cause concern; if there's something on your profile that you think might raise eyebrows, please contact me in advance. 3) This is an international swap!

And--importantly--have fun!

Fantastic idea...can't wait!

beckra 09/22/2008 #

Thanks, animalchatter--I'm glad you're up for it!

chedderfish 09/23/2008 #

What an awesome idea! It's a great way to find the "image within the image"

beckra 09/24/2008 #

Thanks for participating, chedderfish! I'm very eager to see what people come up with....

ladydy5 09/25/2008 #

Can we mention what part of the original photo this piece is from?

beckra 09/25/2008 #

Hello, ladydy5! Sure, you can describe the entire photo if you want so that your partners can know what their image is a part of. Some people might want to leave it a mystery, though, and that's fine, too!

I can't bear to break up my sets so I am sending all 4 pieces from each photo to all of my partners. Great idea for ATC's~thanks!!

craftsgalore 09/27/2008 #

I've signed up and I think I may do the same as you Shandapanda - I'll send the 4 pieces to each of my partners. It seems to make it worthwhile then.

beckra 09/27/2008 #

Ouch, craftsgalore. I hope that people think it's "worthwhile" even if only 1 ATC is sent.... I wouldn't want people to sign up for a swap whose requirements they didn't think were worth their time and effort!

tamipal6 09/27/2008 #

This is a GREAT idea! Thanks for hosting, Beckra!!!

craftsgalore 09/27/2008 #

Just to explain what I meant about "worthwhile". I was thinking purely about the postage - I note that most of you live in the USA and to send just one itty-bitty card all that way on its own seemed a bit sad.
I love to participate in swaps because I just love everything to do with crafts and I love receiving them from all over the world even more. Everyone single one is deffinitly worthwhile.

beckra 09/27/2008 #

Thanks for explaining, craftsgalore!

And nice to "see" you again, tamipal6!

knitmom7 09/27/2008 #

What about printing it out on cardstock?

beckra 09/27/2008 #

Sure, knitmom7--if you can print it directly onto cardstock, I think that would be fine, as long as it seems sturdy.

sending all four pieces to each of the four partners--awesome idea

Swan 09/30/2008 #

I've actually done something different. I've had two pictures printed and I'm sending one piece of each to each partner.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/tamipal6/ I really enjoyed this swap...even more than I thought I would! You can see my cards on flickr. :)

tamipal6 10/ 7/2008 #

I did what Swan did. I used two photos and am sending one piece out of each to my partners.

ladydy5 10/ 8/2008 #

Why do swappers hav e to do their own thing when the coordinator asks us to do it one way. I will do as asked and if I want to send extra it will be something they can use in future ATC's. I will send one ATC and a picture of what it would look like all together.
