Description:

The Dark Ages, when science and mysticism went hand in hand. Many a man lost his mind questing to turn lead into gold, but alchemy is so much more than that...

What is alchemy, you ask? Glad you inquired because that is your task! My young novice, here is your first lesson...

You will create for your partner, a basic alchemy kit!

What is the necessary items for a beginning Alchemist? That is your purpose, to find out and to share your knowledge. This is an exercise in creativity, problem solving and self-learning, and to pass what you have learned to your partner.

There are many branches of Alchemy...some are more scientific, while others are more mystical in nature, like the corresponding alchemical traits within the Tarot. It is up to the Sender to decide which one (if you select one give an in depth swap concerning your branch), or even all the branches, (as in giving a broader more overall swap) your partner should be introduced to, but there should be a minimum of at least 5 items in your kit, you may include more if you wish.

It may contain some handmade items, bought items, or found items, as nature is always a great source for such things. Also include a supply list and a set of instructions!

The kit or "pack" should be put in some kind of container, whether its a box, bag, pouch or whatever, remember, if it is a potion (or liquid) to wrap and package it appropriately for shipping.

This swap should be something well thought out. So unless you are willing to do this for your partner, please do not join!

It is hard to put a money limit here, and I don't think I will. You should spend what you can/think is reasonable for putting together an amazing package for your partner! But please don't sell your house!

Now for the mundane:

Since this is a more time consuming swap, I am allowing plenty of time to research and put it together. Also, as it is a more labor intensive swap I will ask that you have a minimum rating of 4.9 to join and no unexplained one's or recent no-sends as well.

A site to get you started... Alchemy in Tarot

Any questions? Just ask in the comment section here, I will check regularly!

Thank you and Happy Swapping!

Should there be at least a minimum number of items to send?

NaughtyElf 04/13/2009 #

LadyBathory 04/15/2009 #

I have put it on my watch list, it sounds really interesting, but I just dont have any ideas :-/

Sharila 04/15/2009 #

LadyBathory: Google alchemy and read around the net to get some ideas:))

NaughtyElf 04/15/2009 #

Thanks to everyone who has joined so far and making Sharila's swap a good one!

This swap is a fantastic idea! In fact I got so excited I actually squealed and all of my colleagues looked at me oddly =S.

Caranam 04/21/2009 #

I am both excited and completely baffled by this swap!

Sharila 04/22/2009 #

Yay, I am so glad all of you are as thrilled as me over this swap!

Moominbrooke 04/22/2009 #

This will be most intriguing...

bookwyrmm 04/24/2009 #

I really want to do this swap, but I simply do not understand it. I get the kit part, but I am very confused as to what exactly goes into. Could you explain what a kit might contain in a little more detail?

Sharila 04/24/2009 #

Bookwyrm: If you for example wants to focus on herbal alchemy, you may include some herbs, some readymade potions in containers, some empty containers, a planche with herbal signs/correspondendes, and like a neat handmade instruction book.

Thanks, Sharila. That helps some. I tried looking at the link in the swap description and just got completely overwhelemed.

NaughtyElf 04/28/2009 #

That link was just an example of how alchemy influences tarot, it was meant to serve as one example of how alchemy is more a part of our lives than we may think. I am sorry if it seemed overwhelming, that was not the intention.

Hello to all!

Sorry for my absence but I am beginning to emerge from no man's land and get back to the living and swapping. I am currently catching up on swaps and will be back to normal soon! Some of you may have noticed that @Sharila is no longer with us until she has taken care of some of her swaps/ratings. As such she will not be able to fulfill the Alchemist's swap and so I have had to re-route some packages. That being said I know many of you like to customize your swaps so in fairness to those I had to switch around I am allowing another couple of weeks for any adjustments that need to be made concerning this swap. I hope this is ok and I wish you all a very happy swap!

I hope this swap or a similar one will be posted again - alchemy is very much an influence in my creative life and in fact is the inspiration for my personal webpage (www.alembyc.com)... though please don't go and look at it, there are only placeholder pages up atm and the whole site is being drastically revamped over the next month or so!

Anyhow, if I see something like this happening again, I'm SO all over it. This is clearly the right group for me to have joined, and I have to say thank you once more for the invite!
