About Me

My Intent Word is Dynamic. I am trying to bring more of that energy and action into my life. Writer, musician (I play Irish trad.pennywhistle and flute), art historian, color guard/ winter guard mom, NaNoWriMo participant, racquet sport addict...I write cd reviews and interviews on folky and psychedelic music in "Scram! The Journal for Unpopular Culture" and an arts column in "FolkWorks-The Source For Folk Arts, Music and Dance in the Greater L.A. Region." www.scrammagazine.com and www.folkworks.org Favourite colours are jewel tones. Love the aqua/turquoise/teal and lavender/violet/purple families as well as hot pink, and electric green. Don't let this hem you in, though.I tend to prefer jewelery in silver, turquoise, coral and opal. Celtic designs are good, too and Steampunkness. Renaissance Faire stuff. Quirky weirdness. Someone recently turned me on to the delights of Cram Cream and San-X.Those little steamed bun, tea, sushi and bread people crack me up. I like Skulls and Steampunk aesthetics. I am currently trying to get my Steampunk costume together. :0) I also have a soft spot for Rupert Bear and Hamtaro...Moomins...Froud Faery Whatnot...Sisu (and other members of the black licorice family)...Cloudberries...and marzipan...and stuff with flames on it.Especially blue flames. My daughter likes Tokidoki and dark Lolita stuff.

Favorite Music

Irish Traditional (Not new-agey), Brit-folk, Psychedelic, "World Music", and my own stuff http://www.myspace.com/murderchangesghosts which I'm calling, "Literary Neo-Trad" (or Music to Read Charles DeLint or Neil Gaiman by).I also like Masive Attack, Belle and Sebastian, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Flaming Lips, Underworld, Vashti Bunyan, Grateful Dead, Nick Drake, King Crimson, Baroque and earlier, Rasputina, Neutral Milk Hotel, Northside label (Hedningarna, Gjallarhorn), Caoimhin O'Raghallaigh, electronica if it's good, some punk-oriented whatnot, driving stuff that makes you jump up and down or ask, "What the Bleep was THAT?" or laugh uncontrollably, or wonder why everything sounds so much better in gaelic or icelandic...and Italian musicians Jovanotti, Max Pezzali ( of 883 fame) and Cesare Cremonini.

I just started playing ukulele a few months ago, so if you see any cheap used uke books, any style, we can arrange a swap, I betcha! :0)

Comment: Thank you! I like your style & the soothing blue! Yes, you are right, the quote does resonate in the current times. I too sometimes feel very bleak about the future of humanity. Then I think "Maybe the humans will go extinct, & then Earth will be happy again" ... & that perks me up !!! <--- paranoid, I know! Yes, I DID read "The Historian" ... though I sprinted through it a bit ... You'd call it a travelogue? I thought it's a "Dracula book" :P ( a GOOD one at that) ... I just kept feeling very bad for the woman due to the *migraines* ... poor thing! Yes, "Bollywood" is a genre in itself, & a distinct vibe to it! However, Hindi cinema has matured a lot, suddenly, since 2005, we have lots of good movies as well as lots of crappy ones :D Did you get to watch "Dangal"?
Response: Loved Dangal- I cried when he was stuck in the closet and heard the anthem. Yes, it's a Dracula Book :0) But she does some great descriptive writing about places, too. Gald you liked! :0)

This is a shot of one of our rhododendrons in our front yard. It was actually taken in March 2009, but we don't get this kind of snow very often where I live, so I'll take the imagery. Plus, this particular rhodie tends to be a bit crazy and blooms every couple of months year round. LOL

This is a shot I found online of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Oregon. It's one of my favorite lighthouses in the world, and the snow at the coast just looks so bloody magical!

Decorate Profiles: ALW

Flowers in my gardens will have frost on them some mornings and with the sunshine, they recover and go about their business in making my world a better place. I selected this image as an electronic Winter Solstice / Yule gift to you so that you remember just how beautiful you are.

njstauter on Nov 20, 2017:

Decorate Profiles: ALW. May this season bring you joy & peace. I selected this scene to represent what is frozen in us that we are not ready to share. Its in our nature to heal those hard, cold places. Yet, for awhile, it is good to see the beauty in our process and simply be ok with where we are.
