Description:

This is Round 7 of the Journal W/a Twist Swap. This is the International version. I will also be hosting a US only version.

For this swap you will have one partner and keep a journal for one month (actually a bit longer than a month - I've spoken with some people from the previous swap who asked for more time to complete this swap since life tends to get in the way of swaps sometimes and I've decided to extend the swap timeline a little for this round). During this time you will write at least twenty entries (but feel free to write more). Each entry should contain some text. Text could be a story, a poem, a couple paragraphs about your day, a quote you like - whatever you feel like writing.

Here's the twist: each entry should also contain an "extra." Extras could include an illustration, a recipe, a collage, a photograph, a song (you could make a complimentary mix cd), a little something that you picked up that day (brochure, piece of candy, etc), or whatever else you can come up with. The extras can vary by day, so you could have a song for the first day, a recipe for the second day, and a photograph for the third, etc.

Extras can either be glued into the journal (think recipes, photographs, etc) or packed in the box with the journal (think mix cd, sweets, etc). However, for things that are packed in the box, please note which entry they are for. At least two of the extras need to be higher value. This could be interpreted two ways – either items that have a higher value money-wise ($3-5 USD) or items that have higher value effort-wise (a handmade item of some sort).

Basically the intent of this swap is to create a journal stuffed full of interesting text and goodies. You will send the journal to your partner after one month and they will keep it. The journal itself can be any size. It can be store bought or handmade. Keep in mind that it might be shipped internationally, so weight and durability should come into play.

Please remember to give out hearts for extra "extras" or entries and anything really that goes above and beyond.

This swap is International. It will require a commitment so the restrictions are as follows: You must have a rating of at least 4.85. You may not have any "no sends" for the past two months. I don't like banning people, but I want to ensure that everyone who puts forth the effort for this swap receives a quality journal in return.

Due to problems in other journal swaps I've hosted, I reserve the right to skip any person before the send by date. This means, I reserve the right to contact the person who sends to that swapper and have them instead send to the swapper's partner, thereby skipping them. I would not do this lightly, but I will not hesitate to do it if the person's ratings fall significantly, they fail to send out multiple swaps, or they do not sign into swap-bot for 2+ weeks. I would hate to do this, but if it becomes necessary I will. This is a big swap and I don't want people disappointed because they worked really hard on their journal and received nothing in return. I think that covers everything. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Feel free to start your journal as soon as you sign up! Some people like to start it early and then add personalized entries when they find out who their partner is.

I'm so excited for round 7.

I've always wanted to do one of these, but always managed to miss the cut-off dates. With the songs and the mix cd, is the idea that you might have a song for say about 3-5 entries but burn them all on to the one CD, plus a few others to make a CD of reasonable length?

julief 06/ 2/2009 #

@Net3811 somepeople do it that way.. and some people just include an entire mix for an entry. It's totally up to you.

i would love to do this but I just want to doublee check and make sure that its jurnal swap for the us right?

jacksbluejane 06/ 3/2009 #

nope. this one is international. there is a US journal swap, but it's elsewhere...

julief 06/ 3/2009 #

@nannie8 - jacksbluejane is right, this is the international version, but the US only is here: http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/38458

I had a question in the US version, so I thought I'd clarify here, too. The extras do not have to be related to each entry. You can include whatever you feel like with each entry.

I am extremely excited about this swap. I am still pretty new but I have swaped a lot before! I promise promise promise not to flake. I am excited to write out my thoughts to send to someone! Is it alright if I join?

KarinB 07/10/2009 #

I've been eying this swap for a while now... I'm really tempted! Just a question: What type of journal do people usually use? Size etc? Would something like a Moleskine cashier be OK to use?

julief 07/13/2009 #

@KarinB Any journal that you want to use is perfectly ok.

suzie 07/14/2009 #

Can the extras be something like postcards, local newspapers(this would be for curiosity only as I think not that many speak Finnish) and other paper things or just collages?

KarinB 07/15/2009 #

Thanks @julief I'm joining and starting my journal right now! :)

julief 07/15/2009 #

@Suzie the extras can be whatever you want. Most people choose some that can be stuck inside the journal and some that are loose in the box. The only guidelines are that at least two of the extras need to be valued at $3-5USD.

I am so excited about this! I was in a journal round robin on swap-bot years ago and never got mine due to a flaker somewhere in the chain. Like the idea that there is only one partner. Makes accountability stronger. Thanks for hosting this!

I would love to see photo's of previous Twist swaps, does anyone have any posted up anywhere. I would love to see some pics before I start.

Hey! Just rated my partner but she was listed as Reds and not KarinB (who actually sent me the journal). Just want to make sure that Karin gets credit for her effort. Confused about what to do.
