I really like this Swap but am a bit worried about shipping....anyone ever ship a teacup and saucer successfully? Suggestions? Thanks Stars

I know swaps like this have been done before. I personally never sent something so fragile. My plan is to newspaper it, then bubble wrap it. I am going to use the smallest box possible, so there is no movement and pack all the nooks and crannies with newspaper or bubble wrap. On the box, I am going to write in BOLD letters fragile and also have the post office stamp/tape the word fragile everywhere! =) Hope this helps. If anyone has any ideas, please comment. :)

Wrap the teacup and saucer separately in newspaper first, then bubble wrap, then packing peanuts or more bubble wrap until there is no room for movement. Marking the package fragile is up to the individual, but I generally don't bother with that and I never have had a problem. :-)

This sounds like a lot of fun except I have no use for the tea cup and saucer. :-)

tennesseehoney 01/12/2010 #

No USE for the teacup and saucer??? You're kidding. They are a work of art! A thing of beauty. They make you smile just to see them. They bring a quiet sense of peace and joy to your soul..Look again, I'm sure you will find a deeper appreciation for a tea cup and saucer...

weyrmistress 01/17/2010 #

Hmmm. . . turn the cup into a candle holder; glue the cup to the saucer, find another to glue and make a 'wonderland' tea party tower of tea cups; fill with buttons or lace or lovely yarns and include it with your vintage pictures in a vignette; get a hanging basket from the thrift store and create a mixed media piece to hang in your dressing room. That's all that comes to mind right now. Oooh, glue it on its side in the saucer and make a diorama. . . I'll be quiet now.

Fun idea, I'm looking forward to the chance to hunt down a set for my partner.

Just something to keep in mind for whoever gets me -- I do quite like modern teacups/saucers, so those are totally an option for me as well as the "usual" types.

kupkake 01/21/2010 #

@weyrmistress you are sooo very creative! Love your ideas! =)

I have sent & recived a lot of tea sets, and mugs too, on here. You should wrao them seprate first then wrap and pack as tight as you can. Don't use a oversized box, movent is nota good thing for the tea cups. I have gotten a maney of broken mugs and cups, SO SAD!!
I turn a lot of my tea cups, (that i don't keep in the kitchen) into bird feeders and baths, and butterfly cups. You glue the cup and saucer together (i use E6000) then glue a wood post to it in the hight that you want. Fill the cup with water or bird food and the saucer with the other. Or use loose sandy dirt out of the yard or buy sand and fill the butterflys take there baths in it. LOVE ALL THE IDEAS @weyrmistress I also glue the old vases, saucers milk glass, well in old glass together to make cake platters, and other nifty things to serve food on. Or to old my crafts. Oh you can also glue some nice flowers into the tea cup add insome birds or butterflys and give as a gift. I gave some to friends that work at desk last year, they still have them on the desk..

@Nickel you too are sooo creative! Loving your ideas too! =) I will definitely have to try some out! :)

breccamerie 01/22/2010 #

Use the Tea Cup as a planter in your kitchen window for little flowers or spices. These actually sell for a little bit on Etsy for that purpose.

Nickel 01/23/2010 #

OOOo I love that tea cup planter idea. That would be so cute!! I have to try that one. Does any one have an idea on how to make a tea cup look like it as a cup cake in it. Or how to make a cup cake liner have a fake cup cake in it... (I can not crochet)

grimmlynn 01/23/2010 #

You might try making one out of polymer clay if you can't crochet. It would look great if you used some Fimo Effects in glitter white that would sparkle.

Nickel 01/24/2010 #

Thank you thank you, i will try that.. I use a lot of clay and useing it there never crossed my mind.. I was at a block on it, i have been looking at these cup for months now and could not see how to get it in there.. I even set a real on in it and then sat there slowly useing my finger to eat the iceing off while i was thinking. Silly i know, but i am glad i ask. Of too see if i have the right colours to use for this. Thanks again grimmlynn

I've been searching for months now locally for teacups and I had no luck. They're all priced well over $5.00...even for the non-vintage ones. Trying to Antique in Washington, DC is terrible! Maybe I'll have more luck in a month when we got to Alabama and I"ll join in on the next one!

kupkake 01/25/2010 #

Partners assigned! =) @Nickel I have seen styrofoam balls covered with fabric, then embellished to look like cupcakes! :)

Nickel 01/26/2010 #

@kupkake i like that idea too. I have plenty of fabric to that one. I am waiting on a order from the art store to try my clay one out.. I can't wait to see what i get in this swap..

grimmlynn 01/28/2010 #

If you are in Alabama and anywhere near America's Thrift Store, definitely check it out!

Nickel 01/28/2010 #

I have always wanted to go to that Thrift store, maybe someday!!
