Favorite Crafts

I love crafts! I almost majored in art in school, but alas just find many ways to express myself at home. I love drawing, marbled paper, ATC’s, matchboxes, scrap booking, glass bead making, jewelry making, card crafting, sewing, painting, ect. The list goes on. There is no limit to creativity!

Favorite Music

I listen to just about everything except Rap. I also have gotten away from negative, wallowing in my own grief music that I was oh so drawn to as a teenager. I am happy now so I find if hard to relate to.. My fav. bands use to be Skinny Puppy and Depeche Mode. I still occasionally listen to the later. I like Loreena McKennitt, Enigma, Delerium, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Tori Amos, Poe, U2, Live, Days of the New, Vas, Azam Ali, Moby, Candlebox, Dead Can Dance, Jewel, Enya, Celtic Women, ZZ Top, and Skynard to name a few. I love cultural music! I listen to so many different types of music that it would be hard to do my tastes justice. Good examples on Myspace.

Favorite Books

I love books! I think my fav. books would have to be the Tao Te Ching and the Book of Hopi, Man's Search for Meaning. I do a lot of reading on Celtic History so there is an extended list there along with many philosophy books from Plato and Netzche. I am presently reading Vegetable, Animal, Miracle. Awesome book. Really getting into Curio Wonder Cabinet's so vintage nature study books are awesome- typcially those with prints. I also enjoy many ancient history cultures in addition to Celtic like Egyptian, Roman, Native American, Viking, Chinese, Nubian, ect. Theology.

About Me

Well, there's allot to me:
- My favorite colors are blue, purple, silver and green but I have recently started to play with my feminine side and pink is rather appealing to - I love anything cultural and find cultures and different nationalities beautiful so as you can imagine I love anything foreign such as food, dress, art, jewelry, and music. - I love the outdoors and collect rocks and insects which I am ever amazed by their vast variety of colors. I wear typically natural and organic jewelry. I love Turquoise and silver, but also enjoy a vast variety of other semi-precious natural minerals. I spend allot of time with my husband and 3 boys hiking, canoeing, rockhounding, and camping.
- I am very much into green and organic living, survivalist and pioneering. - I enjoy writing and pen and ink drawing. I am a book nut and love reading. I also scrap book and make cards. I occasionally make my own glass beads. - I love the Victorian era, the Art Nouveau and Pre-Raphaelite movements.

I really have too many hobbies and interest to list here. Life is exciting and I love to experience all of it! I love what America stands for, all those who protect us here on the home front and a far. The American flag makes me proud…and cry. I am also an Anti-Debt, Dave Ramsey supporter. He’s my hero!

What I get passionate about

*Archaeology, history, philosophy, psychology *Victorian, Art Nouveau, and Pre-Raphaelite movements. *Mexican, Egyptian, Celtic, Roman, Viking and indigenous peoples’ art. Cultural and Religious items and art. Day of the Dead, Catholic, Native American, Celtic, Roman, Egyptian, Viking, Chinese, early civilization, historical. *Steam Punk, didn't even know there was a name to the stuff I liked untill Heatherlayne started a Steam Punk swap. It's like the best of both my punk past mixed up with my new vintage interests! * Ephemera!!! Antiques. Old pharmaceutical items (bottles, boxes, labels ect), vintage labels, vintage domestic items. Our new house will be decorated 1920’s-30’s era so any help would be appreciated. *Nature and animals- all of it! *Anything Glass- I am fascinated by glass and its uses. I've researched the history of glass and also work with it. Beads, dishes, marbles, jewelry, ect. *Unusual paper- marbled, flocked, hand made, recycled ect. *scrap booking, card and matchbox making, and ATC supplies *Butterflies and beetles- I love insects! I actually collect them, end of life however. No killing here! *Wolves, Dolphins, Hawks, Owls, Hedgehogs, Octopus/Cuddlefish and Squids, Snakes and of recently, Elk! LOVE them! *Imported and forign foods and candy. Love trying new things with the family. *Rocks and rock hounding, LOVE fossils. *Macabre, Gothic and Dark stuff. Not serial killer or morbid! *Favorite smells would include exotic and foreign scents such as Frankincense, Myrrh, Ylang ylang, and Dragon's Blood. Green Tea, Peach, Honey, I don't care much for incense esp. Nag Champa which gives me headaches. *Lotion, lip gloss, pillow spay, unique body spray, great smelling candles.

What I am looking for at the moment:

Retro owls

Day of the Dead

Victorian

Cute vintage birds

Ephemera

Vintage pharmaceutical items, labels

Domestic vintage antiques

Old Crackerjack/ Gum ball charms

Cute button pins

Unusual paper

Catholic, Voodoo, Curanderismo (fasinated by the cultural aspects and how they mingle with Christianity)

Kawaii, I would love a blind box of some sort, bento items.

Special thanks to the following angels:

Thanks to Swan for angeling the Children's Scavanger Swap for my boys.

Dislikes

II do actually do have some dislikes: Disney

Plastic unless its vintage or having to do with scrap booking. This includes beads and jewelry.

Famous people- don't care about them except the occasional movie.

Sewing, knitting, needle work- I love receiving but don't do any of them myself. Now I would like to get into felted animals and do enjoy unusual fabrics for ATC's but that's my limit.

Barbie- I hate her. She sucks as a role model and that goes for all the other dolls similar to her now. Strawberry Shortcake is the exception.

Romance Novels, Girly and Beauty Mags. I suspect Martha might be my exception. She has a few cute things in hers.

Mean people. I don’t understand why or how folks can be mean, rude or uncaring.

Comment: This is really cool! Thank you. Your computer difficulties though are exactly why I laid mine out the old fashioned way with scissors and glue, then took a photocopier to it. I hate dealing with frustrating computer stuff like that. Thanks again!
Response: Glade you enjoyed it and thanks for waiting.

Comment: Awesome package! Very fun stuff. I particularly like the medical stuff actually and I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one if you decided to put things like that in your etsy. Thank you very much!
Response: Thanks for the great feedback. Still undecided on the Etsy posting. Actually looking into selling digital images on line. I have a rare book store on Etsy, Thedustytome where I have stashed many of my great boxes with a lot of excellent images which mainly have exceeded their copyright sooo, maybe selling the images might be more profitable than selling the books themselves? Just a thought. :D

Comment: Wow! What an essay, Heather! You are so very insightful and intelligent! Alot of what you wrote reminded me of my dad who was a philosopher and journalist. Unfortunately, I do not have the brain capacity to take in all that you wrote but I feel I've learned something of great value. Funny, too, because my rendition of this assignment is basically a complaint that there is too much suffering in this world! You are an amazing person, Heather! Very admirable! Thank you so much for your thoughts and sharing them with the rest of us.
Response: Maybe that's a great benefit from this assignment, that we can get new insights that can help us ourselves learn, grow, enjoy life ect. I enjoyed the ability to do it but worried about offending someone. Glad you liked it.

Thank you for the generous package of quilting fabrics. I'm not an expert but I think they are truly vintage, probably before 1950, maybe '40s, which I'm guessing from both colors and patterns. I've neer made a vintage quilt per se but this is enough to inspire me. Thanks a lot..
