Description:

There is a thread in the forum titled 'can you cut WOOD.' There are pictures and inspiration for you there. Also if you have questions you can ask there as well.

This will be a monthly swap for 12 months. Each month will have a color theme. The color of the month must be the BASE color of the house. Any other colors used are senders choice. Any theme is senders choice. These houses can be decoupaged, beaded, painted, classy chic, somerset style, you name it. I have also seen them made into fishing shacks, restaurants and saloons. Let you imagination get the best of you.

The houses are cut from EITHER a pieces of 2 x 4 or 1x4. Not to be taller than 7". Please use different angle cuts at the roof area so everyone doesn't receive all perfectly cut roofs. (pics on thread)

I know I will be placing small hooks on the backs of mine when I receive them to hang on a wall in a row house type design.

  • PLEASE sand any rough edges to smooth. This will be a part of the rate you receive for the overall project.

Most Home Depot's will cut these for you for a very minimal fee. .10 cents I think?

Low down;

  • 1 house
  • must use the color of the month as the base color
  • edges must be smoothed
  • no special requests
  • do not send the same roof style every month (see thread in forum)
  • not a heavy weight so International swap
  • ALL CQ members are encouraged to participate.

But PLEASE, if you don't think you can send out a great quality swap, please don't join.

Once Ned cuts all 12 houses for me, I will most likely sit down and do all 12 over a few weekends since I will have all the supplies out anyway. I encourage you to do the same.

Sending late will not be tolerated since there is a 12 month time frame to do them in.

If this goes well, we will continue this swap but with themed houses next time~

If you have any questions, please address them on the CQ thread.

Here are the monthly colors:

November-burgundy/maroons

Dec-red and or green

Jan. White

February-red

March-green

April-flowers (color any)

May-shades of LIGHT blue

June-shades of purple

July- red/white/blue

August-yellow

September-browns

October-orange

PS/EDIT I also thought it would be a nice idea for everyone to sign the back of the houses, and put their info on it like an ATC. After all it is a peice of art and it would be nice to remember who it came from.

  • any roof angle cut is fine.

CarrieZee 10/17/2010 #

Oooh! This sounds fun! I am out of town for a few weeks and watching until I know when I'll be getting back home to my craft supplies.

Juliajae 10/17/2010 #

I love these! I did a whole set with the suspects from the game Clue. What a fun project! I will be doing 2 at a time so I can keep a set for gifts. Thanks for coming up with this RyeRye!

RyeRye 10/17/2010 #

To get a size idea

craftycrocheter 10/19/2010 #

Just wanted to let you all know if you buy a 6 foot length of wood from your hardware store you can get all 12 houses from it and you can cut them in varying heights. (my husband cut mine and he did 6- at 6 inches, 3- at 5 inches and 3- at 7 inches)

craftycrocheter 10/19/2010 #

Also I was wondering if everyone wanted the roof of the houses all with points at the top(like the ones in the picture) or if you wouldn't mind them flat on top and angled at the sides, like a barn roof.

wolfeagle 10/19/2010 #

I don't mind different style roofs if I'm ever your partner.
Looking forward to these.

RyeRye 10/19/2010 #

ANY roof angle is fine! I will post that in the swap description. Thanks for bring it up @CC

ohpossum 10/25/2010 #

sbuck 10/29/2010 #

I am in on this one. I thought it was too hard when I first read the description (wood), but I think I can, I think I can.

RyeRye 10/29/2010 #

I know you can @Sbuck I know you can~

dkay 10/30/2010 #

Okay, lets give this a shot. Gotta go blow the dust off my wood tools. It's been a while....

RyeRye 10/30/2010 #

woot woot

Pizzaeater 10/30/2010 #

I am just a little confused. Do we send 1 house each month or all at once? If we do once a month, what is the sending date for each month?

RyeRye 10/31/2010 #

Each month, 1 house. The send by date will be around the 15th of each month.

boatingbelle 11/ 1/2010 #

Managed to persuade my OH to cut up the wood for me.

What a performance!! You'd have thought I had asked him to construct a Chippendale chair!!

He wanted exact measurements even though I told him it was pretty flexible. But he did cut them and sand them down for me.

UK measurements are different to US and mine are a fraction under 4 inches by 1 inch.

Hope that is OK.

RyeRye 11/ 1/2010 #

Perfect! I am so glad you have joined in the much anticipated swap~

Great persuasion skills! lol

funkylukecosmicart 11/ 1/2010 #

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.. scary saw! but i am in!!!!

RyeRye 11/ 1/2010 #

YEAH!!!

boatingbelle 11/ 9/2010 #

Woo Hoo!! Just posted my first house, AND it's UK so low postage for this one.

Can't wait to start on the next one - in fact I might just start now!!

printer 11/13/2010 #

It would be fun to post pictures of our villages--maybe in the forum? I'm not sure how to do this, anyone? thanks!
