About Me

punkins

I'm Emily. :) I'm 24. I come from a town where the largest buildings around are the churches, and I love that. I recently graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor's degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences, and am on the hunt for a good job. I love The Beatles. I spend a lot of time with my boyfriend Josh (of 3 1/2 years). We go out of town a lot to visit friends, but are also really happy just having movie or TV night. :) I love spending time with my family, friends, and my pets! I am a huge animal lover; I have 3 pets: Willy, an orange tiger cat, and Pokey, a black and white tuxedo cat, and Diego the Dog, a black lab mix. All three are handsome and loving.

I love to sing, and watch movies. I collect keepsake ornaments, kitchen gadgets, dvds, and so on. I spend a lot of time dreaming about my future. I love interior decorating! I love cooking, and I also love going out to eat every so often. My favorites are The Old Spaghetti Factory, Olive Garden, and Panera Bread.

I joined swap-bot after becoming familiar with Postcrossing. I have done quite a few ATC's, but am here mainly for postcards of all varieties.

Things I Like...

Whenever I am sending a swap, I do my best to look at my partner's profile and see how I can best match their likes and incorporate it into what I send. I try to keep a varied library of postcards, for instance, so that I'm able to do this. So, I thought for the benefit of my senders and myself, I'd add a list that's easy to scan!

  • I LOVE all things BRIGHT and COLORFUL. My favorites are purple, lime green, and coral.
  • Like many, I ADORE vintage cards. They're the best! Especially if they are authentically "old".
  • Coca Cola
  • The Beatles, as a group and individually
  • Selena
  • Animals, especially cats.
  • Churches & Cathedrals
  • Sign Language
  • The Autumn season
  • Anything to do with Paris, France or New York city
  • Statues
  • Cemeteries
  • Many classic actors and actresses, particularly Audrey Hepburn, Jean Harlow, Jean Arthur, James Dean, Boris Karloff.
  • Paisley
  • Shabby chic
  • Peanuts characters
  • Gerber daisies, lilacs, and tea roses

...If you are sending a postcard or the like, and speak anything other than English, I would love for you to tell me how to say/write "I love you" in your language! :)

Favorite Music

THE BEATLES, Feist, Selena, Regina Spektor, Taylor Swift, She & Him, Iron & Wine, The Smiths, The Anniversary, The Get Up Kids, Jens Lekman, Ella Fitzgerald, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman... too many to name, really. A lot...from most all genres, except screaming "rock" and violent rap.

Favorite Books

Our Town by Thornton Wilder, Sundays at Tiffany's by James Patterson, The Holy Bible, and yes, Twilight. (I'm currently reading New Moon for the first time.)

Favorite Movies

My very favorite = tie between Breakfast at Tiffany's and Disney's Cinderella. Also: 13 Going on 30, Away We Go, Love Actually, Jack the Bear. ANYTHING by M. Night Shymalan, or starring Audrey Hepburn. High Fidelity, Say Anything, Philadelphia, Awakenings, Ordinary People, Dirty Dancing, The Curse of the Cat People, La Vie En Rose, He Loves Me He Loves Me Not.

Love musicals. My favorite is MAMMA MIA! Also My Fair Lady, Across the Universe, Annie, Chicago, The Phantom of the Opera.

I really love scary movies around Halloween time: My favorites are a tie between Halloween (1978) and Silver Bullet. Also, classic horror like Dracula (Bela Lugosi), Frankenstein (Boris Karloff), and Werewolf of London (Henry Hull); The Scream trilogy, Black Christmas (1974), The Strangers, etc.

Favorite Television

My absolute favorites are Gilmore Girls and Medium. I also became instantly addicted to Glee.

LOST is amazing. The Office (USA), Friends, Sex and the City, King of Queens, Supernatural, Freaks and Geeks.

Many classic TV shows; I Love Lucy, Mary Tyler Moore, and Rhoda.

I really enjoy TLC. Cake Boss, The Little Couple, and I really admire Kate Gosselin (no matter what anyone says, ever). She is a role model to me because she is an amazing mother, and I enjoy watching her 8 munchkins function as a family. I also find great joy in watching shows like My First Home, because I dream of the day when I'll be married with a home of my own. :)

I find myself watching the Food Network more and more often. I want to learn to be a great cook! I really like Giada de Laurentiis.

Favorite Crafts

Scrapbooking, and anything else I can do with those supplies, like ATCs and cards, etc. Love it!!

Like most, I had really hoped I wouldn't have to add a section like this to my profile. Le sigh. I was really slow to do this, thinking that eventually mail or a rating would appear. I will never add someone to this list prematurely - anyone listed here has neglected their duty for a long time, and ignored my attempts to contact them. I get that life happens, and am always patient. So here lies my list of users that have screwed me over. Of course, if any of them attempts to mend the situation I will be happy to take a name off this list!!

I can't stand...

Inappropriate or overuse of the word "awesome". • I can't stand the sound of people brushing their teeth, even my own, so I have to leave the faucet running while I do so. • I hate it when people tell me to "relax". • When people say "I could care less" and actually mean "I couldn't care less". • When people "decorate" with turkeys at Thanksgiving, and them sit down and eat one. Bleh!! • When "onion" is pronounced as "ung-yin" instead of "un-yin".

;)

Comment: This late rating is embarrassing, especially because I absolutely adore the Waterhouse painting on your postcard. It's reignited an interested in his artwork, in fact. :) He really was exceptional, wasn't he? All the detail that reads true... I love the quote too. I've never been able to get into Tori Amos, but I think the line you quoted was magnificent. I've held gold dust in my hands too. Didn't always know what it was either... *sigh* Thank you so much. P.S. I love your handwriting and the coloured textas/markers. ;)

Comment: I loved your dreary camping postcard replete with the mosquito full of schadenfreude (or at least glee!) on the back. We've been wanting to go camping but your PC put me off a bit, heh-heh! I also really loved the US letter stickers you used. (Sorry for the late rating!)

Comment: Still got nothing.
Response: II put a lot of effort into this ATC, and sent it on time. My partner later private messaged me, "I was your partner in this swap and I still haven't got anything from you." I replied, "Hi Mia, I'm sorry it hasn't arrived yet - it is a black ATC with a Tori Amos quote that I tried to mold to your profile =/. I did send it on time; I sent it the same day as I did my other partner's (tiffako) Quote and More ATC, which arrived and was rated Sept. 23rd. In my experience, when I have mailed things to both Germany and Spain, they take an extremely long time. I know how frustrating it is when a swap does not arrive. I keep very close track of what I send and receive in a Word document. I looked at your profile and see that you have been having problems with your postal service, as have I (there are many postal strikes going on in America). I know that sounds like an excuse, but it's really just an explanation that I hope you'll understand. If it's okay with you, I am asking for a bit more patience for it to arrive, solely because of the higher shipping cost on overseas packages. If it doesn't arrive, you have my word that I will send a re-send. Again, I apologize - and please do let me know! Sincerely, Emily". I never received a response to this message which, I felt, was explanatory on my part. I would have been more than willing to continue communicating and also to do a re-send, because I was really looking forward to the reaction my work would have recieved. However, since MiaParanoia would rather rate with a '1' than communicate or give me the opportunity to do the re-send, I'll just keep my first '1'. Hopefully my other ratings (all 5's thus far) will speak for my swapping record.

Hi Emily, I just read over your page and will be sending you a CD of beautiful music in the next couple of days. Your dislike about when "onion" is pronounced as "ung-yin" made me laugh. So true!
