About Me

Just moved to the Netherlands! I am concentrating on learning Dutch, and enjoying the beautiful weather, gardens, and architecture.

An old collecting love is postage stamps! I love the artwork, the history, the cultures, the textures and colors. I really enjoy spending hours arranging and categorizing them.

I love naked postcards! (Postcards sent through the post, not inside an envelope)

Please visit my Flickr site as almost all of my photos have an attribution creative commons license so you can use them in your own work and projects.

Favorite Music

I love just about anything with a beat! I studied music theory this past year and it's amazing what goes behind the sound.

I love hearing music from all over the world, in all different styles. I just got an account at emusic this past year and I love the ease of downloading music. On the flip side, one of my friends had to close his music store after 17 years of good business, because not enough people shop in a physical store any more. So that's sad.

Currently listening to:

Andrew Bird

Paris Combo

Imogen Heap

Women of the Calabashi

The Wailin Jennys

Favorite Books

The Neverending Story by Michael Ende was my first "favorite" book. It is still one of my favorites. It's very complex, much more so than the movie, and it was the first book I ever got angry at; I threw it across the room when I was 12. You see, the main character started to make bad choices, hurting his friends and falling into the hands of the antagonist... That book takes you up, down, and all over the place. It's a good fantasy book, and also a good soul-searching book.

I love anything by Patricia Mclaughlan , E.L. Konigsburg , Douglas Adams , Ursula K. LeGuin , Patricia A. McKillip , Orson Scott Card , Madeleine L'Engle , Alice Walker , Greg Bear , Donna Jo Napoli , Terry Pratchett , and Nancy Farmer .

I also loved The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston and any book that envelops you in a culture not your own. This would be different for everyone, but that's what's great about sharing and reading: you get to experience a little bit about someone else's life.

I enjoy sci-fi, fantasy, interesting biographies, juvenile fiction, and juvenile fiction from other countries.

I do not generally peruse the adult fiction section, just because there are too many uncertainties there. I have an anxiety disorder, so I try to avoid images or passages that involve horror, cruelty, overt sex, violence, etc. The juvenile fiction section is just... safer. But if you know of a good book that doesn't have any nasty surprises (I also generally don't read mysteries, although I love them, because of the murder/death/violence aspect) or is tastefully written, let me know!

Favorite Crafts

I love quilting. Although I'm not doing much of it right now. Mostly I'm into digital fabric printing and collage applique, but I love all aspects of quilting, mostly the patterns. I love pattern and color, which also leads to a love of photography, and stained glass. And art, especially fine clip art designs I can use, from all over the world. I've just begun to explore digitally generated art, which creates itself after you give it a few guidelines. Here are some good sites:

Favorite Things

I have lots of favorite things; treasures from garage sales and thrift shops, art, music, and books that make you think, fabric, zines . I love zines .

LIght aqua is my favorite color. Light aqua, lime green, greeny teal, blue spruce, olive, and all that together works.

I love zines and writing, so send me a bit of something you wrote, either on a card, in a zine booklet, decorated with art and stickers, etc. Thoughts are good.

I also love to learn new skills. So if you know something, and think you can teach it to me, please do! I will happily reciprocate!

Natural body care things are good. I like lavender, eucalyptus (wow, I'm amazed that I spelled that right), patchouli, ginger, and rosemary. I like musky scents far more than fruity ones. No food scents please! (vanilla, yuck, cupcakes, eew, apple pie, yech, etc.)

I do love candles, in the musky scents.

I love collaborations! I'd love to work with you on a project or challenge. Right now, I'd like to focus on sustainability, simplifying my lifestyle, and getting rid of more things. So if I can exchange some of the excess fabric I have for some digital images or music, that would be great!

Comment: Wow! I am so grateful for the magpie journal you made for me. It is a beautiful handiwork that I can turn around and use as a junk journal. It really blessed me because there were so many pieces to it that spoke to my heart. Thank you!!!
Response: And I loved making every bit of it for you!
