04/28/2017 My favorite cat, Buster, met his maker today. He had been ill since December, and progressively getting worse. Making the decision to let him go today is probably one of the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make in my life. My house seems so empty without him.
12/29/2016 My dad recently died - or at least it still feels recent. There are days I feel perfectly fine, and others that find me sobbing uncontrollably. This holiday season has left me feeling especially melancholy. I fluctuate between having a really good day and a really horrible day. This month I find myself in a sort of a grief fog - Please be kind. Thank you!**
I love good mail, and I always have! I was in the Army, but that was years ago. Now I'm living the high life in Reno (get it? High life? Sierra? oh well...), working as an office manager. I have three cats, a love of tarot, divination, and gardening (flowers, not veggies). I like to read (cozy mysteries are my current faves), I'm a magazine-aholic, and I drink lots of chamomile tea (no wonder I'm so calm!).
I love Mary Engelbreit, French Kitty, Chococat, Maneki Neko and scotties. For scents, vanilla, spice, and citrus-smelling items are my favorites. I love tarot cards and other types of divination. I love cats. And reading. And BPAL!!! I love cosmetic and perfume samples. I'm rediscovering fairies. I would love guided meditation CDs (okay if burned copies!). I love magazines: girlie, home, different (Utne, Mental Floss, B*tch, Bust), mystery (Ellery Queen, Alfred Hitchcock), and British mags. Starbucks cards are always appreciated! I guess you could say I'm a girly girl...love pink.
Favorite colors are the combo of pink and black together, yellow and gray together, pink and brown together, turquoise and brown together. I don't wear silver jewelry, but love gold and copper. I like autumn colors, but my office is decorated kind of with purples and browns.
Being an ex-California girl and a Scorpio, I have a love of water. I am almost always in the bathtub or taking a shower. My favorite bath/lotion stuff is Blackberry Vanilla (their "sensual" scent), Warm Vanilla Sugar and Moonlight (Moonlit?) Path by Bath & Body Works, Pear Glace by Victoria's Secret, and Origins Ginger scented stuff.
I love Yankee candles, but not many of the floral scented ones. Some favorites include, but not limited to, Sage & Citrus, Lemon Lavender, French Vanilla, Fresh Balsam, Home Sweet Home, and Spiced Pumpkin. I also like the Bath and Body scents as well, especially the Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream!
I HATE GLITTER. Seriously...glitter and I don't get along. Glitter is the litter of the art world...it gets on everything, you can never get rid of it, and it lingers until the end of time.
GLITTER. I think I mentioned that already, but it's always worth mentioning again! ;-)
Photo albums and frames Oh ye gads...I have absolutely no use for photo albums or frames. I don't post pictures around the house or at my desk.
Most things made in China Seriously. Their products have killed cats and dogs and children. Why do we continue to trade with China? I realize that I can't stay away from all things China - but for sure stay away from items my food might touch, that go into my mouth, or on my face/body are items I will not use.
Memo sheets The only time I've used memo sheets sent to me is when someone kindly sent me about 5 ME ones. However, for the most part I prefer the whole pad or nothing at all. I lose the sheets, and they just add clutter to my work area. Honestly, I've gotten to the point where I just throw loose memo sheets away, so it's not worth your time or money to send them to me.
Hot Drinks I would prefer not to receive any hot drinks (teas, hot chocolate, etc.). I am not really a hot drink kind of gal - and I especially don't drink hot chocolate, because I don't drink milk.
Christmas ornaments I do not set up a tree. If an ornament is part of a swap requirement, please do not send me one - it would be a waste of your money and time. I won't mark you down for not including an ornament.
Postcards I do not participate in postcard swaps anymore. Exception: I enjoy receiving blank/unused Mary Engelbreit and kitty postcards, especially Grumpy Cat.
Some of my favorite things include:
I love, love, LOVE granting wishes via the Wish Lists posted in various groups I belong to. However, I am really tired of not getting thanked - either via PM or Profile Comment - for sending out wishes. As rudeness should not be rewarded, I've decided to stop sending out wishes to those people who can't be bothered to offer a thank you.
I'm also avoiding the dreaded "One Wish Wonders" - you know who you are. You're the people who post expansive, expensive, and extensive wish lists, yet only send out the minimum of 1 wish per month. You guys suck the fun right out of it.
Regarding "Don't Open Till Christmas" type swaps - I am rating 5s once received, and will add hearts and additional comments after opening.
I don't think of myself as a crafty person, but I do engage in light papercrafting for pocket letters (my new favorite thing to do) and I have also started to make my own small envelopes (microlopes).
I was attempting to learn how to knit... that didn't go well, but I don't think I've given up entirely yet. I recently bought a crochet needle, and I hope to learn how to make dishcloths. We'll see...
The one thing I like to do, but is really expensive to send, is making altered candles. I use the glass pillar candles that can be found in the "religious" section of the grocery store, and I decoupage them, add embellishments, etc. I like to make spell candles out of them, or "just for fun" candles - this Christmas I made myself a holiday candle using fabric, a vintage image of a cat hanging up an ornament, some fancy yarn, and a jingle bell.
I had a lot of fun with altered clothespins as well - this crafting thing is addicting!
I love reading fiction that was written by women. Some of my favorite authors include Krista Davis, Joyce Maynard, Bailey Cates, Melissa Bourbon, Nancy Coco, Elizabeth Berg, Sandra Dallas, and Sophie Kinsella. Favorite books include P.S. I Love You, Good Grief, Twenty Questions, The Persian Pickle Club, and Lovely Bones. I also like the anthology groupings like Irish Girls About Town, Scottish Girls About Town, and the like. I've been reading a lot of cozy mysteries lately and also enjoy mystery anthologies, you know, books with short stories by mystery authors.
If anyone is interested in a one-on-one, I have some stuff - US only:
Lots of cosmetics, brand new, received from Ipsy and Birchbox. Let me know what you are interested in (eye make up, etc.). I have a ton of stuff I would love to get rid of.
Brown and turquoise pretty much run through my house. My bedroom is brown and red.
I love shabby chic stuff, vintage, etc. One of my most favorite furniture pieces is something I got from my parents when they were alive - their record console! It's from the 50's, and holds probably about 100 albums. I love it!
I have a REAL garden for the first time in my life! I decorate it with garden gnomes, and would welcome any that were sent to me. Would love anything else for the garden (if sending seeds, please make sure they are for this planting year!). Gardening books, seeds, planters...it's all good!
I know tea is popular in the swap world. Please refrain from sending it to me. Due to dietary restrictions and allergies, I am unable to consume most teas. Chamomile and rooibus work for me. Everything else seems to cause distress - and that includes chamomile tea doctored with any other type of flavoring, like citrus.
Please: no green tea, no black tea - caffeinated or otherwise. My system reacts wildly inappropriately to it!
