About Me

Hello, My name is Laikley. Im almost 22 years old and am a university student studying marketing with a fashion concentration. .

I'm quiet, eccentric, and a little bit introverted. I was raised on a small homestead, and home schooled. There were about 7 kids my age who lived within a mile or 5 of me, so while I wasn't completely cut off from kids, I did spend a lot of time alone and I do not regret it at all.

Update - November 8, 2012. I just got a position for the holiday season at my local post office! I am so excited for this opportunity it's actually my first job, ever. My job will strictly be sorting mail and putting said mail into the mail boxes! I know it probably sounds boring to most people, but I am so thrilled!

UPDATED UPDATED - December 17th 2012 WOW i have had an eventful 4 days as i posted above i got a job at a post office, around the 10th of december we started noticing some pieces of mail that we processed werent getting sent out, which led to us finding out we had a high school boy who was working with us as a sorter stealing outgoing mail - and subsequently a lot of incoming mail too. some of mine were the unlucky ones to be taken because i included some things that the police and my boss told me he suspected were gift cards [they were postcards] all my incoming mail within the last week was also taken [this raised alarms because im in a lot of swaps and its VERY rare that i dont get atleast 3 things a day] while he did return the mail to the police who in turn returned it to me it has all be rifled through and the majority of it opened. so im currently going through it all and trying to match each card or letter with each swap. i feel so betrayed and sick to my stomach - because i didnt just post these in a mail box i took them to my job and processed them myself tis the season for theft i guess =( so im sorry about the slowness of rating my swaps i will get through it all tonight.

January 3rd - New Year New Drama - lovely. Just got back from my familys a couple days ago first official day back at work today - i was hired on a permenant basis at the post office which is sooo nice, and found out that more of my mail that had been stolen was returned my manager repackaged some of my outgoing mail that was damaged and what wasnt damaged was sent out so if you are missing any of the swaps i sent out please let me know, so far i havent heard anything from my partners so im hoping everything made it out to everyone, i also recieved 12 of my stolen incoming mail on top of my other mail so im quickly getting my ratings out within the next day or two,

ive come to be so grateful for the women ive met through swap bot, you ladies are lovely and its such a nice feeling knowing i can come to talk to ya'll when things like this mail fiasco happen =) i am forever grateful!

Favorite Music

To be completely honest I don't really listen to a lot on the radio. I listen to bob marley and slightly stoopid, rebulation, damian marley toto, doobie brothers, a lot of reggae [please no judgements i do not do drugs lol, its just music i was raised on and i find it comforting]

Favorite Books

On the road, Into the wild, anything by V.C andrews, because i did not have access to internet or television at home growing up i did LOVE reading magazines and had subscriptions to everything from chatalaine to teen beat, seventeen and YM, Vogue and more recently Nylon. In my teen years these were what kept me sane sometimes!

Favorite Crafts

Im finding with school that i do not have as much time as i used to for all the fun crafts i like to do. right now i basically just crochet, im currently interested in making boot socks and beanies and infinity scarves.

i love making journals but as i find a good journal properly bound takes a lot of effort and time i dont have a lot of that right now!

Like and dislikes.

I love getting letters, stationery, postcards (although i do not really like "tourist" postcards) but every other type of postcard im interested in

Washi tape, anything to decorate with, vintage paper, vintage photographs [post mortem photographs as creepy as they are] and blank forms, Paris and London themed pieces.

The only thing I am not overly excited to recieve are used postcards and used stamps i dont have any use for them and they will likely go straight into the trash.

I am easy to please and open to swap most anything. I want to send you things that you would be excited to recieve so i hope you take that into consideration with me as well.

ONE DISLIKE - i am constantly destashing my collections of paper stuff i dont like keeping a lot of random pieces on hand so while i appreciate people putting extras in an envelope its not really needed i appreciate the sentiment behind it but if not something ive mentioned that i like using it too would probably just go into the trash i hope this doesnt come off too rude i just dont like to have a lot of extra stuff on hand.

A growing list of new loves.

ZZZZIIINNNESSS!!! holy moly! I had no idea people did these kind of things! i just recieved a gift of about 15 different zines from my friend for christmas and im HOOKED. if anyone wants to get rid of some old zines that they have no use for and want to read some new ones contact me and we will set up a private swap! these are so cool! i love the wordier zines.

also if you or anyone you know creates and sells neat zines message me a link and i will check it out! currently on an etsy mission for some new ones!

ALSO Deco Books! i recently recieved one in a swap and was lucky to be the last page in the book and will be sending it off to its rightful owner this week! such a neat idea i woul love to recieve and participate in more of those!

Did you receive my card of the Newbie swap? It's been over a month since you were last online....

80sGirl on Jan 25, 2013:

Hi Laikley, I just wanted to check in and see if you received my postcard from the "Newbie Postcard Swap #2" yet? I sent it on December 31st..and I live in the northern USA..it's strange that it takes so long. :( How long should we wait until I send you a replacement?

IdlersDesign on Jan 8, 2013:

I received your second card for the quick Postcard exchange; thanks! (But I received the 1st one too, so that one was not stolen)

fawnscrafts on Dec 28, 2012:

I understand the postal theft situation.

We have had to deal with it also. Now we have a box where our mail goes to. How we figured it was an inside job?

Only on Tuesdays was the mail being stolen.

How we figured that out was by the not received, yet scanned, delivery confirmed mail.

It is a bummer, you do feel violated. Someone who has no right to get into your space has helped themselves to your space and items.

I had a boy friend when I was younger and too dumb to know how to bust his father. He bragged how 'daddy, the mail carrier, would take any mail he thought there was money in, like birthday cards and Christmas cards."

It makes you wonder how many grandmothers think the grand children are rude and the grand children think the grandmas don't care.

Lesson learned... if sending money, make sure your gift is known about to the household it is going too.

I see you have a thing for zines; have you already spotted the mini-zine swap?

I failed to mention, while rating the Unwanted Postcard swap, that I really like the decorated envelope and stamps. I love the Volkswagen bus stamp. That's going to go onto someone's ATC! :) Thanks again.

Hey, Laikley! I agree w/ KarlaKC (and I'm here for the same reason!) Sounds like a great job, and I'm thrilled for you! I'm happy to see you here, and look forward to swapping with you.

KarlaKC on Nov 16, 2012:

Laikley, I am visiting your Profile from the Merry Christmas: 1 card to 5 partners and I chuckled when I read about your excitement over working at the post office during the holidays. I don't think it sounds boring at all to sort the mail and put it in mailboxes. What better job for a mail lover. You might even get to see the occasional piece of fun mail and can think of how happy that person will be to retrieve their mail and see that bit of happiness inside. :) So enjoy sorting! I know I appreciate the person who does that at our post office!

Wow, what a cool childhood you have there. Mine was in many ways similiar, and I wish to offer my child the change to learn to hunt with bow and arrow etc. (I am sending you a card in quick 10 ;)
