About Me

Hey Y'all! I'm Melissa Gayle - A whimsical and feisty creative living in the heart of Texas. I'm an art school graduate who plunged head first into the corporate industry only to find that the handmade community was truly my passion.

I reside in the wonderfully weird city of Austin, Texas. I am a severe Craftaholic who loves to turn discarded items into impressive treasures. I also enjoy spending my free time searching for oddities and other curious finds at various local vintage shops, thrift store digs, flea markets, and estate sales. I have been a collector of Taxidermy & Bones since I was a child, an obsession we can all thank my Grandfather for. I would spend countless summer nights watching him prepare animals for dinner and tanning their hides so he could add each incredible creature to his taxidermy collection. When my Grandfather passed I was left with his entire collection, ranging from the 1950's to the present, deer antler racks, elk antler racks, mule deer mounts, white tail deer mounts, pheasants, you name it- my house probably has it!

Wunderkammer Culture is a collection for those who love the dark side of things but also are intrigued by the elegance of femininity. My collection provides customers with cruelty free bone jewelry, hand carved faux arrowhead accessories, naturally shed antler hooks and displays, and handmade retro inspired wire head wraps made from repurposed and limited fabrics. Everything is designed and handcrafted by myself in a smoke-free but kitty cat friendly studio.

Comment: I received my JOURNAL finally. I wish I could be giving it a better rating, but sadly I can't. I know we are all at different levels and I am not a pro, but I take my time and put a lot of work into all that I do. This swap looks as if it was thrown together in less then 30 minutes. There were not the minimum pages decorated. The glue that was used to adhere what was added dried up on the pages and you could see it. And stuck some of the pages together. I am very frustrated, but very happy with the great hostess!
Response: I apologize if the pages were stuck together, but I can assure you I spent a significant amount of time on your journal and I can also assure you that the pages WERE NOT stuck together when sent, I used wax paper and a book press. Did you not read the letter I wrote you? I created the journal so you could ACTUALLY USE the journal for whatever purpose you desired. Rather than wasting a perfectly good and new journal on something you may not like ( as I can see you did not like it so maybe it was a good choice that I never filled the insides to the top...) It was a creepy theme and perhaps during shipment the glue became reheated and softened to the pages, I understand your frustration but I think you said it best yourself. WE ARE ALL AT DIFFERENT LEVELS. For the most part, I AM NOT A PAPER ARTIST, I have my background in Fine Art, and am a Textile Illustrator, Product Designer and Graphic Designer, I signed up for this swap to try something NEW and FUN. it's funny, I WAS FLAKED ON in this swap, and then angled waaaaay after the fact. This whole Journal Swap was nothing but a waste of my time. Feel free to throw away the journal, but you'll be wasting a perfectly good Moleskine journal if you do... Try laying it open by a window near sunlight and allow the rays to evaporate any moisture that the glue could have left. It's always a shame when people cannot appreciate handmade arts. :(
